THANK YOU! Heating & cooling guy came to fix the a/c since the blade fell off in the outside unit and reset my thermostat. I called today he acted like the thermostat was always set to 69 for the a/c. Told me the ll wanted it there. I said well last summer I know I could go down to 65 (not that I do) and that I live on the 3rd floor. Said he'd call the ll and see if he could "fix it" and he would be able to tell if it was set like that last year. The day I own my own house, I will never use this heating and cooling company. Don't lie to me because I'm a woman. Your video was super helpful and now my kids and I will be comfortable the rest of the summer!

I just added the PDF of the instruction manual in the description above. Page six has the details of each set up function. Menu item #1 needs to be configured to match your equipment. If you get cooling in the heating mode and cooling in the heating mode you should switch item #2 from 1 to 0 or 0 to 1.

The first setting on the Focus pro 5000 is set at the default 0 - 1 heat/1 cool conventional. Should i change this setting to 2 - Heat only or 3 - Heat only with fan? All is running ok after i skip cooling and enter heat when i turn it on, but after seeing your video i am wondering if i need to change this setting??

I need help. My heat only blows in emergency heat mode only. I can I change it to regular heat. Doesn't emergency heat make your bill higher.
@JamesSchenck10 жыл бұрын
Shanae, Yes the bill is higher if the equipment is running on emergency heat. It is the same as using electric baseboard heat or an electric furnace. With a heat pump, the t-stat should be configured so that it energizes Y1 first (first stage compressor) then Y2 (second stage if your equipment has it) then W / Aux (This is the strip heat element). So essentially you need to find out if your unit is 3 heat / 2 cool, or 2 heat 1 cool and configure the stat to match. The video shows where the menu items are configured in the setup. Hope that helps.

How would I find out how many watts this thermostat outputs? I'm trying to calculate my heating cost for the coming winter.
@lawrencegenereux85678 жыл бұрын
bentouta5 The thermostat is essentially a temperature-activated switch; as such, it doesn't output any watts of its own. You would need to determine the cost of running your heating (for winter) and cooling (for summer) equipment. That type of calculation is performed by a heating/cooling specialist (also know as HVAC), and involves factors well beyond a do-it-yourself project level to be even remotely accurate.

Hi James, I would like some help re-setting my Honeywell Th5220D thermostat. The numbers on your thermostat are different from mine. My numbers are 1, 3, 5, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 27, 28. The numbers on your thermostat in your video are 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 26. It makes no sense as to why the difference. Any ideas on setting mine up? Thanks, Doug
@JamesSchenck7 жыл бұрын
Hi Doug, Here is another PDF of an install manual which may help you. customer.honeywell.com/resources/techlit/TechLitDocuments/69-0000s/69-2698EFS.pdf The shaded areas show menu items that are only applicable to some of the models. I would suspect that the #'s that do match up between the model I used in the video and yours would reference the same things but hopefully by cross referencing a few different set up manuals you can confirm that.

i hate my 2 stage cooling. on very hot days, a few weeks out of the year in the deep south, i set my tstst on 74 cooling it will run for hours on 1st stage and never get below 74.5, the 1st stage does not have enough BTU's to bring it down to satisfy, its the same if i set it on 75, it will stay on 75.5. we got plenty of heat pump. 5 ton for 2600 sq ft(new home with largest r-factor possible), but no matter what temp i set it on(besides 77 and above)the 1st stage will stay running all day. im looking at this tstat and i read there is a comfort over economy setting, that will force 2nd stage when you want. the tstat i have now is supposed to force 2nd stage after a user programmed setting, (10,15,20 min), but once it gets withing 1/2 degree, 2nd stage will never come on no matter what....wish i would have got a single stage now, i really do, i was trying to save on electric but ended up increasing my bill about 25-30%. so im looking at this tstat and im wanting to know can you force 2nd stage on by using the comfort setting? even when its within 1/2 degree? let me know
@JamesSchenck8 жыл бұрын
I don't know if the comfort setting would make 2nd stage come on sooner but if it didn't I'd just move the second stage wire (Y2) to the first stage terminal (Y1). (And keep the first stage wire there so you got both wires in the same Y1 terminal) Then you'd essentially have a single stage stat.
@jessmdevans8 жыл бұрын
is there some way to turn a 2 stage into a 1 stage? i tried to move the Y2 to Y1, even jumped them together, somehow it doesnt work like that. i havent checked that out fully, and dont understand why it didnt work. im thinking along the lines of buying a board for the exact unit but with single stage compressor, then permanently energizing the 2 stage switch on the compressor, then trying to stick the EEM fan motor on the high setting. without the 2 stage board, it wont call for the other stage, and wont increase or decrease fan speed, if i leave the board, it will obviously keep trying to change stages, internally, fan/compressor. im all ears for suggestions. but the goal is to convert a 2 stage compressor, into a single stage. any help would be greatly appreciated, especially if involves NOT changing the board
@JamesSchenck8 жыл бұрын
Jess, I would go back to your first attempt of moving the Y2 wire to the Y1 terminal and use a multi-meter to check for and verify there is a call. If there is a call, and if both the Y1 and Y2 wires are securely landed then it should go straight to second stage on any call.

Can anyone tell me why my thermostat 'setting' temperature reading is different from my 'inside' temperature reading. I want to make my apartment cooler bringing the setting down to 72, but the inside reading just stays at 76
@lawrencegenereux85678 жыл бұрын
Karina Fasullo First, ensure that when you adjust the set temperature to 72, you are in the "cool" mode. The display must read "cool" in the lower right section of the display. If the thermostat is in the cool mode, and you can set it to 72, but the room temperature will not actually go down to 72, your cooling system may not be able to cool your apartment to that temperature due to heat loading or equipment inneffeciency.

my white rodgers has a y2 setting, 10,15,20 minutes. but it does not work, never-ever, once it gets within a 1/2 degree of satisfaction. in august, ive seen this thing run at 75.5(tstat set on 75) for 8 hours solid. i would never ever use another 2 stage, i mean if somebody gave me a new one i wouldnt use it. if you got 54,000btus of cooling,stage 1 only is about 37-38000btu, and that dont come close to cooling a house thats 2600 sq ft. in Central alabama, one of the hottest places in the nation, in the middle of summer, you couldnt give me one because all my money would go to trying to cool it. im currently trying to figure a way to convert it to a single stage. seems you need a single stage board, because the fan ismulti-stage (EEM) then you would have to energize the 2-stage internal compressor switch(low voltage i think), so it could be done, but can it be done without a single stage board? you look like you seem to know a lot about this stuff. i do to, but, i would love a bit on input from a pro
