Kalos GM Jesse goes over the straight cool setup & wiring of a Honeywell FocusPro thermostat for a basic A/C system.
The red wire goes on the R terminal, and it supplies 24v of constant power. Then, the yellow wire will go to the Y terminal, where it supplies a 24v call for cooling and engage the contactor coil at the outdoor unit. The blue wire attaches to the C terminal, which is the 24v common. From there, the white wire goes to the W terminal, which is the 24v call for heat. Finally, the green wire is the 24v call for the indoor blower.
First, hold the up arrow and fan button for approximately 10 seconds until the display shows a 1 and a 0. Then, you can use the up/down arrows to change the setting and select the "Next" button to configure the setting shown. The instruction manual shows the default settings in bold and dark font. For "System Type" (Option 1), the number 0 represents 1 heat/1 cool, which is the default. Since that is what we want to use in this case, we can proceed by pressing "Next."
The "Fan Control" (Option 3) enables us to specify if we have a gas furnace or an air handler with electric heat strips. In this case, we're dealing with a gas furnace, so we need to select 0.
For the "Stage 1 Heat Cycle Rate" (Option 5), Jesse selects 9 for an electric furnace.
For the "Stage 1 Compressor Cycle Rate" (Option 9), Jesse uses the recommended 3 cycles per hour. In most cases, that default setting will work just fine.
The "Manual/Auto Changeover" (Option 12) choice will vary by customer. Leaving the setting at the default 0 will make the changeover manual under all circumstances. Bumping the setting up to 1 will give you the auto changeover capability. The 2 setting is for the "auto" function only and is best for customers who don't like to work with the thermostat technology.
Option 14, the "Temperature Display," is also variable based on the customer's preferences, though most in the USA would probably leave it at 0 to keep the Fahrenheit scale.
We can also set the "Compressor Protection" (Option 15), but it's often fine to leave it at the default 5 minutes of off time.
The final options that matter to us in this scenario are "Heat Temperature Range Stops" (Option 27) and "Cool Temperature Range Stops" (Option 28), which are the maximum and minimum temperatures, respectively. Again, these will come down to the homeowner or property manager's preferences.
The Honeywell FocusPro 5000 also comes with an installer system test, in which you would hold down both arrows for about 10 seconds. Once the display changes, the installer or service tech can use codes in the manual to test the system under the conditions listed in the manual to confirm proper operation. This test mode allows the HVAC service professional to test the system without any delays. Selecting "Next" will allow the installer or service tech to proceed with the next test in the manual (from 10 to 30, 30 to 40, etc.).

Our supplier here told us these are being phased out for the Honeywell t-6 and t-4. And will soon no longer be available. Any body else hearing that as well ? I love these stats simple and durable.

Heard that about 6 months ago. And the T-6s suck, lots of problems with them reading the wrong temp. We went back to 5000's few weeks ago.

I've been hearing that the pro 5000's are being phased out for over a year now and they're still available. We buy all of them we can get our hands on. Honeywell has gotten a lot of flack for the t6 thermostats because all the technicians hate them and they do have numerous issues. They have to have batteries even with a "common" wire, because if the house ever loses power the thermostat will go into a lockout mode wanting you to set up the time and date again and nothing will work until you do (unnecessary service calls). They have problems not displaying the correct temperature and we found a few that won't energize the reversing valve on a heat pump.

With mines it’s not lighting up green anymore and it doesn’t read what the temperature is in the house. It does show the numbers on the right and won’t turn furnace on. Is there a way to reset it? My installer setup goes...10-30-40-70 30 and 40 and 70 don’t do anything

I had installed this thermostat last year replacing with NEST which I did not like and was having problems immediately after installing. I am having the same problem with Honeywell as well. I don't know too much about electricity I guess being a woman it's not common. Anyhow the problem I am having is only when I use the heater. This thermostat works great with the A/C so did Nest. When I turn the heater on and the fan is set on auto, It works and turns back on a couple of times then it stops. I can hear the furnace running but the fan will not turn on. I try to turn off the thermostat, but it won't turn the furnace unit off until I turn it off the electric breaker for the unit at the main electric panel. I had the same problem with Nest. The only way it would of work if I disconnect the yellow wire at the thermostat which is for the A/C that Nest had advised. Now I have Honeywell and I still have the same issue. I have all the same colors as the wires shown on your video on my thermostat wiring. I have a COURIER FURNACE that is about 25 yrs old and is working great. The old thermostat before I switched to Nest was I think Honeywell as well but it was one of the oldies with mercury? Both Nest and Honeywell were installed by a licensed HVAC CONTRACTOR, but I keep on having the same issue. I never had any or similar issues before replacing my old one which I truly regret. It's very true that if it isn't broken it should not be replaced. Any advice you can give would really be appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time.

Thank you for the video. Why should customers or users have to do "conventional setup?" Over one year ago, I did not have to do any conventional setup and I just rewired the same way to the new Honeywell TH5220D1029. It worked fine until something happened one month ago.

Just got this installed today, and it's a fucking headache! My heater turned on out of nowhere and I could not shut it off! My apartment got to 90 degrees! I had to call the god damn 24hr line to wall me through to shut the whole system down .

Don’t forget to leave the bonding wire in r/rc. If you have 1 transformer in the system. Remove if the condenser has it’s own transformer.
