I have the HT-904, which should be the same as the HT-900. For mine I found that removing the fan blades from the shaft and clipping the motor wires weren't necessary. In fact you can disassemble the motor and clean/oil the bearings thoroughly just by: 1. removing the 6 screws from the back 2. undoing the plastic cover plate 3. remove two screws that hold the motor to the housing 4. remove the two screws from the back of the motor to get at the bearings 5. oil the sleeve bearings and the felt pads

You can do exactly as you described, the only reason I disconnected the motor in the video was to make it easier to clean the plastic parts.. With the motor disconnected you can put the guards in a dish-washer or clean it with a pressure washer..

Thank you for this great help, Jordan U. I was having trouble with the dopey lock washer: I was afraid to damage it. Your work gave me the guts to get in there and pry the thing off, because apparently you did not need it in the end. I went under it pretty hard with a 1.8 flathead and pried it loose, just a mm. Then I turned the blades a few degrees and pried again. Turned, pried. Turned, pried. I ended up walking the dopey washer off little by little, until the thing came off completely. In the end, the lock washer was not significantly damaged, even with all of my prying! When I reassembled, I slipped that thing right back on. Even though it is not necessary.

Those washers are a joke.. It's just another one of those things they put on there to make people toss it and buy another when something goes wrong..

I just finished cleaning one of my HT-900 fans like this one. However, I found it impossible to remove the 360 degree small spring steel retaining washer that holds the fan blade onto the motor shaft w/o damaging (or breaking off) one (or more) of the small rectangular leaf springs. As a result, I used a different procedure. As in this video, I also removed the entire fan motor (fan blades included). With the fan motor removed from the plastic fan housing, it was then very easy to remove the two long screws that hold the top/bottom fan blade bearings in place. Note that while this is a fairly easy operation to do, there are some small parts to watch out for so they do not get lost. First, there are small threaded nuts recessed into the fan motor upper bearing that can slip out once the long threaded machine screws are removed. Second, is the fact that beneath each of the fan bearings (i.e., top and bottom), there is a small thin (almost invisible) nylon washer. I assume that these nylon washers are present to reduce any metal on metal friction that might occur when the fan is running. Once the two long screws are removed, it was then easy to extract the fan blades, shaft, and motor core as a single unit. There were two advantages to following this procedure as opposed to trying to remove the small spring steel retaining washer that holds the fan blade onto the motor shaft. First, as mentioned above, there is no chance of damaging (or destroying) the small spring steel retaining washer that locks the fan blades onto the motor shaft. Second, by removing the fan bearings and then the fan blade shaft, the recessed pocket in each of the upper and lower bearings can be cleaned of old lubricant with a cotton swab, and then new lubricant can be added. Following this procedure will also allow one to see exactly how much lubricant is placed in each of the two shaft bearings. If too much is added, it can be easily wiped up with a cloth, or another clean cotton swab. Hope this alternate suggested procedure is helpful to your viewers.

The cords on the HT-900 use fuses that are located at the end of the plug, so checked those too. They come with an extra fuse if the other one should burn out. I fixed a different model fan that had a blown fuse in the cord, replaced it with a new fuse and the fan worked again.

Hi Jordon, I'm grateful for having been shown he screws on the outer body. I have a few tips in return. I have a newer version, but my advise is hopefully still applicable. Before unscrewing any other interior screw, you should unscrew the two that are holding the metal strip to the metal block. I have then been able to pull out the fan blades without removing the front stopper. Then, I have front view to all cleaning surfaces. I chose to not unwire all electrical units to do the bath wash. Exposing any wires is another vulnerability to oxidation and rust. I also did not use lubrication. After removing the rotating blades as I have done, I managed to separate the assembly that's stationary from the assembly that's rotating. As I felt around, I did not feel any prior lubrication. Thus, I did not add lubrication for the sake of not adding the chance to make it dirty. I would advise against removing the front stopper since my first year physics class (and newtons law if I recall correctly) is telling me of a force of equal strength and opposite direction for every force. I guess that you had no certainty that the blades were not going to come off the metal axel. I'd also advise to remove the blades as I have described to clean off the oil that was applied. Then, you'll save yourself from later dirt that's caked onto the machine. I'd also advise to use a cleaning solution and not only water. If my presumptions are correct, the fan's

...going to stay cleaner for longer. Last bit is about the Chinese materials. I am not inhabiting the continent, but I am ethnically Chinese. I would like to not have a prejudice that's hanging around about bad manufacturing quality. The Chinese economy is changing. Chinese companies are now releasing their own products at much cheaper prices. I wouldn't want an issue with product design as a definition of the next generation of products that are Chinese made. That's all...thanks for your piece of mind.

I have no idea what you're talking about in regards to the screws by the metal block.. If you don't use lubrication the motor is going to lock up.. The force of the air on the blades pushes it towards the motor, under normal circumstances it's not going to come off the shaft.. If you don't use a cleaning solution, it's going to be much more difficult to get the dust off.. I have nothing against China or its people.. The problem with the products sold here that are made in China is within the greed of the American companies.. They happen to find the cheapest labor in China, so that's where they go.. If the cheap labor was elsewhere, they'd go there instead..

A case of the spoiled wire nuts! Mine don't spoil, though they do go rancid after a while... Once again, the old adage comes true: The fix was easy, putting it back together was the hard part!
@JordanU
@JordanU 8 жыл бұрын
+jaykay18 The spoilage occurred in the sense that the wire broke off inside the nut, making it unusable.. I suppose it could also be said that the ends of the wires simultaneous spoiled.. Man, I guess you did the best job for as little knowledge as you had on the product. But keeping in mind it's a $14.99 fan so apart from labor, it's not worth the hassel. I wouldn't have removed the motor but used a blower and a medium brush to remove dust on the fan case. I'd use an air can/compressor with a small paint brush to remove dust on the motor and related parts. I'd use Wd40 to clean the bearing shaft out, let dry and apply the oil. Spin the motor to loosen the scrappy crust on the shaft and repeated with WD40 and oil. I think you did a good job. I liked your thoroughness to cleaning every part.
@JordanU
@JordanU 3 жыл бұрын
Buying another rather than taking the time to repair is the exact scheme these greedy companies want consumers to fall for. I refuse. If this was mine from the beginning, I'd take compressed air to it, put in a few drops of oil, and that would be about it. Since I bought this used, I wanted it thoroughly cleaned; who knows where and for what it was previously used.
