Honeywell TurboForce fans and other fans of the type all have a similar motor and over time are all susceptible to the same thing. Dust. It gets into the fan's motor mechanism. It gets into the bearing guides for the motor's spindle and wreak havoc. It can be enough to make your fan noisy, start slowly, or jam up altogether.
Luckily it's a really simple fix that only requires basic tools and a little time. In this video I show you how to disassemble the Honeywell HT900WMD fan and restore it to like new working condition.
This repair will only take 2 minutes and will cost you nothing but time ( Mine took longer because I was going slow and explaining everything... :) ). Not a bad deal to save $15 - $20 for a replacement fan!
If you have any questions or if you've had luck getting your fan working following these steps, let me know below in the comments!

*Love the size and it fits perfectly in a corner but **Fastly.Cool** the whole room. Really like how you can auto adjust how long you want the fan to be on. It is quite but highly effective.*

Glad you were still able to get it done! The clip on the fan blade can be a pain. I’ve had reports from other users where this clip broke when trying to pry it off. Luckily I haven’t had that happen to me yet! Something else worth noting is that this same exact fan design is used in some bathroom vent fans. We had one recently making an awful racket and were going to replace it. Those fans are pricey! I took it apart and was shocked to see it was the same. I took it apart and lubricated it and now it’s dead silent again! Thank you for watching!

Great lesson. If everyone knew this it would probably save a million fans a year in the USA. Right now I don't have any broken fans because they are all in the trash. I do have an air purifier with a fan in it that has been running non-stop since 2004 (this is 2021). I'm saving this video. I just set up this exact Honeywell fan in this video yesterday and I like it a lot. Best little fan out there.

Thank you so much! I did everything you said and I made a small mistake of not knowing where one of the metal washers went and it didn't work the first time then had to take it apart again. One comment: some things were not as easy as you showed. The clip to secure the fan blades was VERY hard to remove. Also, the screws were VERY hard to take the motor mechanism apart. Still, I am so happy I found this video!

Nathan Andrews if it doesn’t last, just grab a really thin washer that has a hole slightly smaller than the axle shaft that the blades slip into. Cut a slit through one side to make it into a “c” force it over the shaft and push it down to the blades. it should hold the blade on

How did you pry the small thing before removing the fan blade? Is that part important? I saw one video breaking it.
@damiendoesit3126
@damiendoesit3126 4 жыл бұрын
Hello and thank you for watching. The clips function is to hold the fan blades in position on the shaft. The fit of the blades is pretty tight but I could imagine that loosening over time without that clip present. This would eventually cause some noise and potentially if left long enough a physical jam of the fan blades against the inside of the fan housing. It’s possible to preserve the clip if you take your time when prying it off and are very careful. I’ve made this same repair to four of these fans and never broken one yet! Good luck on your repair!

@damiendoesit3126
@damiendoesit3126 Жыл бұрын
This fan model typically has a small fuse in the cord plug. It’s the same fuse you find in Christmas light strings. Check that fuse. If that is fine, the motor could be seized. Taking it apart and lubricating it may get it going again, but chances are the brass bearing are shot and it’ll be a short lived fix. Best of luck and thank you for watching!

Interesting issue. Is the spindle of the stator where it spins in the brass bearings clean? Could be gunned up and the inner part of the bearing and shaft need cleaned, lightly sanded and polished? I’ve. Had a few of these over the years and have a,ways been able to bring them back to like with a good cleaning and lube. Sounds like you’re getting some friction from somewhere and it’s getting hot and seizing up.

How do you know if the fuse is no good an where can I get one
@damiendoesit3126
@damiendoesit3126 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris! Usually you can visually see that a fuse is blown. There’s a tiny filament inside that should span from metal end to metal end. If the filament isn’t visible or you want to make sure, you have to test continuity across the fuse. As for where to get a new fuse, the fuse in this fan is the same type used in christmas lights strands. The fuse will be in a little sliding door in the plug. Alternate,y, you can grab some off of Amazon, but you’ll need the amp rating inscribed on the fuses metal end contact to be sure you get the right one. Thank you for watching and best of luck!

Hello! I had a bathroom fan that had the same thing occur. When I took it apart again, I tried grease instead of oil and it’s been a few month now and it’s been silent. Might give that a try. I didn’t slather a ton on, but I did use a little bit more than a thin film. Also, check to make sure the floating bearing (the little brass ball things that the spindle goes through) are line up straight and not binding on the spindle. If this doesn’t do the trick, the bearing surfaces themselves could be damaged. Best of luck!

Funny, I have this exact same fan but it has two security screws top and bottom that I cannot get off. If anybody else has this situation and knows what size security tool to use I'd appreciate letting me know. Thanks!

Wish I could help with the security screw. There are a lot of different varieties. I got a precision screw driver set off of Amazon not too long ago that includes 126 different tips. It hasn’t failed me yet. The company name was Kaisi. I can’t comment to long term performance or trying to loosen stuck fasteners or anything, but so far it’s been great and might have the correct tip for the fastener. Might be worth checking out.

@@damiendoesit3126 Hey Damien, thanks for the reply! I got them out by using a simple T10 torx tip like you mentioned in your video. For some reason in the very center at the bottom of the screw insert there's a little nub sticking up that makes it look like a security screw... I have no idea why. Anyway, the torx tip went deep enough into the socket that I got it right out, but thanks for replying... a lot of these KZbinr people, like yourself, never reply, but you did and I really appreciate it!

I’ve come across those before. Some older torx bits didn’t have the hole in the middle and only special ones had the hole for the security pin. Now it’s pretty common for the torx bit to have the hole thankfully!

can you use wd40 instead of oil?
@damiendoesit3126
@damiendoesit3126 3 жыл бұрын
In my experience yes you can. However, I’ve found that the fix performed using wd40 does not seem to last as long. A proper oil yields much longer lived results.

Unless the clicking is caused by interference of something with the fan blades, this should alleviate it.

Funny ...... a full video on a $10 fan ... frigging hilarious ! I am guessing the DIY guy are messed with it and that is why all of his stuff don't work ! I need to share this with friends on ' never be like this guy unless you wanna be made fun of ' ... watch this video ....... the screws and the screwdriver is worth more then the fan ....... if the fan is even barely not up to your expectations .... grab a $10 bill and head down to any store and get another fan ! Currently this video is in top 10 of my most worthless videos on KZbin ! Frigging hilarious !

I don't know about you, but I prefer being friends with people that can fix things instead of throwing them away and buying a new one. Must be nice to be able to throw things away and just buy new, however it's much more impressive to fix things, even a cheap ass fan. You sir are the joke. Lol

You do great work explaining the steps, in the process of getting two of these fans. I was actually looking up reviews of this fan and stumbled upon your video. WOW! This is the same fan motor for my bathroom exhaust fans! I have one that makes so much noise, gonna give this a try! THANK YOU!
