I take it all back!!! please disregard my previous posts. Your video saved my life!! I installed my thermostat (as the guide book said) and it would not work. I called the 1 800 number and the support tech told me I had to buy a wire saver device from amazon to power the thermostat. After a few moments of major frustration I watched your video again and followed your advice about the c-wire connection and BOOM! I was good to go! Please accept my apology if it weren't for your video I would be in the dark with this very expensive thermostat. I would also like to say its a shame that customer support doesn't know, or simply wont tell the customer about great fix you've posted here. Any way thanks again, I really cant express how thankful I am to you for your video. You rock!!!! Peace out.

Big man, your a life saver. Ive been fighting with this silly thing forever !! Moving that Yellow wire got it working !! 👍🏻💪🏻 Update; That got me to the point where the thermostat lit up / came to life; issue then was while it would turn on the fan it would not turn on the outside unit / condenser (yes mine is a forced air ac / heat system & I realize that differs from yours) my end solution was to read the electrical schematic diagram find the + 24 v (in my units case it was brown) put the yellow back in its port & the brown hooked to the blue via the wires that run through the wall blue to the C, works perfect now :)

Thanks so much for posting this. I was getting so angry because I had the common wire connected to the same colored wire that was "extra" from my old unit. Nonetheless, I figured out that that colored wire was going to something else. In fact, the wire I needed to connect to the common was wrapped around the wire casing that went up to my thermostat. All I needed to do was connect it with a wire nut and voila!

Hi again. I was just wondering, and in no way trying to blame. I installed the unit Sept 28 and just 2 days ago, the AC won't turn on. A tech just came by and said the conductor needs to be replaced. I have no clue about things like this. Do you have any idea if the new thermostat could have blown the conductor? or the way I installed it? Keep in mind, the AC unit is very old. So it may just be a coincidence and was simply it's time to go lol. Any advice is appreciated....and maybe some reassurance I did nothing wrong :)

Good day. Read on if you have three wire thermostat bundling. In my case multizone hotwater heating with 8 zone valves, 3 transformers and a propane boiler (and 5 pumps). This applies to those moving from a two wire honeywell thermostat (which covers the older mercury tube type, OR the LCD display type that needed batteries to display and programme). All my wiring bundles included a third wire folded back, which we will use for the Common Wire discussed. (no fan, no cooling, no heat pump, just heat) A. The steps are as follows. a. identify which wire is going to the load side of the transformer in the boiler room (should be the wire currently hooked into your R connector). Confirm proper wiring. b. identify which wire is going to the associated zone valve for that zone (should be the wire currently hooked into your W connector). Confirm proper wiring c. Work backwards from the zone valve motor to find the single (usually yellow wire) that is connected to a single wire coming in from thermostat wire bundles. (the other yellow motor wire is connected to the non load side of a transformer and in my case is maretted with a bunch of yellow zone valve wires and one other wire going to the non-load side of one of my three transformers) d. The single yellow wire connected to another single wire is how you find the W wire from the applicable thermostat and now you have located the correct thermostat wire bundle in the boiler room. e. trace the R wire from this bundle to the associated transformer as this is were the common wire needs to be attached. f. attach the common wire end in the boiler room, typically with a marette to a new piece of wire which is then attached to the SAME TRANSFORMER as the R wire BUT to the opposite side(screw). Synopsis A: With a multi-transformer scenario, I found the easiest thing to do was find the yellow wires (coming from my honeywell zone valves and attached to the motor) and found which one was connected to the W wire from the wire bundle - this was a one to one connection. (The other yellow wire was joined with other zone valve yellow wires and was connected to a wire going to one of my transformers on the opposite side to the load side on that transformer and thus not helpful.). Finding the W wire allowed me to trace back to the 3 wire bundle from that thermostat coming into a common wiring box. Now I could locate the Common wire and importantly the R wire. I had to know which transformer the R wire went to, in order to ensure the common wire went to the opposite side of the same transformer. B. AT thermostat the following step applied. (a) Ensure the R and RC switch is down, in the 2 slot position (both holes exposed) (b) Connect the C wire to the C post/slot (c) Connect the R wire to the R post/slot (d) Connect the W wire to the W post/slot (e) create a little jumper wire (u shaped with exposed copper at the ends) and CONNECT R to Rc Explanation: The R and W wires form a 24 volt circuit WHEN the thermostat calls for heat, (the thermostat joins the R and W wires creating a circuit for juice to flow). The jumper between R and Rc creates and additional circuit between Rc and C WHICH HONEYWELL OMITS in all their literature. Tech support kept telling me I needed four wires, R,W,C and Rc and that I needed to create a similar circuit to RW, using C and Rc. Well by using the jumper I effectively used the Juice on the R side sharing it with Rc. Since the honeywell internally connects Rc and C, the needed circuit is established from the get go and the thermostat powers up. When the thermostat calls for heat, the R and W are connected and the zone valve motor turns on and operns the valve (tested and works). So the two keys are (1) knowing that honeywell uses the Rc slot and C slot for power to the unit and (2) the C wire has to be on the same transformer but opposite side in the boiler room If you have the different standard square sized honeywell thermostat or find the video on you tube for WIFI honeywell, you will see that they have the jumper already in place!!! Good luck with your own situation. :-)

I have a Problem, So our technician already got us set up with the T5 Lyric MONTHS AGO BRAND NEW, I stumbled upon this video cause for some reason the past 3 days.. the thermostat would SHUT OFF and then have that SAME pulsating light as you can see here 6:15 . Then I would leave it alone and observe (while timing the "loop") it would pulsate for a good 10mins, then it would turn on again and start the furnace-AC unit to its last setting ( i left it on cool since the house was kinda getting warm) then it would just run NORMALLY for a good 15-20mins till it will POWER DOWN AGAIN... pulsate for 10mins and so on with the "LOOP" I have tried Factory resetting the T5 Thermostat unit but nothing has changed.... same LOOP. Can anyone share some help here? i did'nt touch the configuration of the wires and i plan to go to home depot to buy a NEW unit, same product (if they still sell this in 2022) and then see if it works incase its not the current thermostats units fault. WOULD APPRECIATE ANYONE who can help. I just find it strange cause all these months its been working sweet...

if you have a 4 wire setup and need this yes you can put the green fan wire on c/common and go to the air handler and just put a jumper wire between g and y1 if its a heatpump problem if you have a gas furnace you better hope you have a heat seq for the fan.

Hi, mines did NOT come with a jumper wire. Maybe they decided to add one since they realized the huge issue with installation. I wouldn't run a new wire to the furnace. Hey man. Just want to start off by saying thanks for making this video!!!! Just bought this today thinking I’m doing my family a service by being more efficient and smart about heating/cooling. Here’s the thing. I don’t wanna use the “Y” in “C” as I have AC and lately we NEED it here. I traced back my wiring and found two bundles. One going to AC and one to thermostat. The one going to thermostat does not have the “C”. The bundle going from furnace to AC unit has the “C” wire. Could I just fish a wire from thermostat and connect to the same “C” location on the furnace circuit board ? I would simply buy a length of wire, tie it to the bundle that comes out at thermostat and pull towards furnace. Install my C wire on panel and fish it back up through the walls and back to thermostat. Would this work ? lol

Question...Replacing the G wire for the C wire, when turning the heat on, does the fan come on as well or does it only come on when u turn the AC on?
@TerenceDIY4 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late response, the fan should come on shortly after the burners turn on.

For whatever reason this didn't work for my 4 wire configuration. Although it did get the thermostat to power on (it previously wasn't) The AC Compressor would not come on after. It would only blow regular air and I didn't even test heat. Turns out I actually have four more wires available for use if I need them so I will try use one of the extra wires to hook this thing up, but I'm not sure its going to work. As I already tried tying in one of the extra wires to the "Y" at the control board level and then using the thermostat end of new wire for the "Common" that also got me power, but still the same issue with no compressor kicking in. I will ask an HVAC Contact about it unless you have any ideas. I live in a condominium building. I believe I have what is known as a "package" whereabouts furnace/condensor/blower are all in one inside the condo. However far as I can tell it wires up just like your standard forced air or condenser unit. There was a jumper on my old thermostat as well. But you know Lyric says you don't need them so...

So what’s that other cable with a small box that’s comes with the thermostat...I saw someone connect it to the furnace..why is that ?
@TerenceDIY3 жыл бұрын
Hi, I am not sure because this was a while ago however, I believe it was for a newer furnace and mines was from the 90's so I didn't need it. I could be wrong. I clearly remembered that I could not use it though. I apologize for not stating that information at the time of this install. Thanks for watching!

What if you only have 2 wires running to your old thermostat? And what to install one of this lyric t5?

So what does the original Y wire actually do and and is there any functionality that is missing because we don't use that wire?

I just had this installed in March, how do I turn the Heater off? It’s summer now and I don’t see a off button? I turned it down to 60 so it’s not kicking on the heat, but I would like to completely turn it off, Thanks

Hi Sassy, I sold the house this unit was installed in however, if I can remember, I believe you tap on the "heat on" up top and turn it off or press the "mode" button and it should give you an option to turn it off. It's a very simple method. I am sorry that I cannot provide accurate details. Let me know if one or the other works. Thanks for watching!

What would you do if there are only two wires on the original (old) thermostat you're trying to replace with the T5?
@TerenceDIY3 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late response. You will need a power adapter to power up the T5. Here is a link to one.... www.ebay.com/itm/24-Volt-C-Wire-AC-Adapter-Transformer-for-Thermostat-25-Ft-For-Nest-Ecobee-24v/402477365908?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item5db5853a94:g:xf4AAOSwRKRfe8wQ&amdata=enc%3AAQAFAAACcBaobrjLl8XobRIiIML1V4Imu%252Fn%252BzU5L90Z278x5ickkTboA95HSvGa1O5UmCCGJLjCFoFBQZ94DziQL3Ja9b%252FOoYBsXx4W5PDBpZwVWCywEobDD%252Fi%252F2%252BUQZpiAKKVz9AXTjgXttIs7O57XeqoWRpIo9mB%252Bq6d%252BkMl1H12n0DsLMASeAg6LdFxtTcMF8MUflUU%252BrAHBwN7Yxs81WChgNyj2MtaHmzumGwiKZDYh0eJRZmJi3FvfL2a8sKgiC2JGTC4BtpzE95fPStbReOk0AltFWnj%252FInad6mfJ5N0Y0akesnmCGMVCZIlC%252FMW5opbcUqto%252FmIv77dH3K4fzHStThlKxotYHslakfAMXjXBMLhiIcliP7XAJYigAr3vEwVnsOc2UCEHQwCUC8SjyN0BTsbJuOt1kCNBxfMmvsspOkmcyZSu9M7ST3bu%252Bc03tCtvmIApSk3H7%252BViaEmBx5M3ZtZxjsmi7vAUIhw3l29mLqhLb98mnFit7CkGsPoQzavcAUp5YhAJqfsJsJCKaHck7nLI%252BIJATgGkw4V%252Fz%252BEEPbFr1u3BKdPvydIXDFY%252FB6wm6f38K0qOU7BGYrWUwPgbozcLmKhTbtG1gdiemShStyfGg%252FGdGUqSE%252FYERZIgnMNIam88O3kjdjyOxDHhlafJJ2ReBNSfPbHYwaxdjJdN8Vl3%252FzP5X6kjVf%252Fls7u3Hkg7bCEpjiAys%252FyQjgjZCVE5Om5TVUJNN4aEqfg0jmiButk1MI%252FNABsxc%252FUXHdUyQP2irNhE7iCetbko7hoGfcfhuvsGvjGTKBMYifc74jxagZ4GrppBgmcjZOYOzIghXe29Ehg%253D%253D%7Ccksum%3A4024773659089044c99b0e4f4508baf1e2561a2a4977%7Campid%3APL_CLK%7Cclp%3A2334524

The homekit barcode is needed to connect to HomeKit. If you don't want HomeKit don't worry about it.

Thanks for your video. It helped me power up my Thermostat. Any idea why it won't cool down to 74? It is stuck at 83 and running.
