Thank you for sharing your findings! This is exactly what I'm looking for in diagnosing my stuck pressuretrol!

Thanks for sharing. I needed this exact information!

Just keep in mind Im no expert so be careful when messing with this stuff

I ditched the pressuretrol for a vaporstat when I had my boiler changed out. On at 6 oz and off at 14 oz. System is well vented so it doesn't need much pressure.

How do the electrical wiring for this pressure switch goes, because I rewired it, but unfortunately the burners won't go on. Thank you.

Looking at the books on 1 pipe steam (Dan H. ) he said many general HVAC guys turn pressure up thinking it solved the problem. I found when I turned down to .5 & vented better things got way better. They had mine at 2 psi! It hammered and hissed so badly. The steam expansion creates a buttload of pressure on its own naturally.

how do you "vent better" ? thanks

The empire State Bldg can be heated with 3psi. Set it at 1/2 psi and 1.5 psi on the dif wheel
@stormbytes3 жыл бұрын
That adds up to 2psi, not 3.
@Mridgwell2 жыл бұрын
Think he meant that unless your house is the size of the empire state building 2 psi is more than enough

How did you measure the pressure at the furthest radiator
@fixedinbrooklyn6 жыл бұрын
Alain Mehani I didn't. I'm just assuming.

Fixed in Brooklyn you want zero psi at all radiators, because they should be condensing steam continuously, giving up heat to the room. Set the ptrol to .5 cut-in

Fellow viewers please be careful *all controls have a Job to do* Watch the weekend do it myself Service man

Mine keeps turning the flames on and off, I will try to lower the psi cut in.

Please be careful. This is not something you should mess with if you're unsure. You could cause serious harm to yourself or others

Appreciate the video but no they don't "mean" at the furthest radiator. There's no need for "extra pressure" to get further up the line. In fact, the opposite is true. Steam travels slower at higher PSI. Pressure should be as indicated AT THE PRESSURETROL or something is wrong. The Empire State Building (< 100 floors) steam heat works on less than 2 PSI. FYI, the boiler I installed was a Pennco 16 Series 1605HSID 150MBH gas-fired steam boiler.

Check out Gordon Schweitzer on KZbin he has a good way of testing this and other pressuretrol devices and he offers methods for adjustments.

Optimal pressure is 1-2PSI

with a properly designed and vented steam system you can use a vaporstat and not a pressuretrol

Peter Muennig at the furthest radiator or on the gauge attached to the boiler?
@martinj96475 жыл бұрын
1-2 PSI when? With the boiler turned off or after a heating cycle?
@florab31214 жыл бұрын
what happens if I put the PSI to 2 ? If I put it lower, some heaters stay cold in the house. Thanks

I am not a professional. I wouldnt mess with pressure settings if i were you. There can be many reasons why radiators dont heat up.

first thing is check all your vents for proper function....including the main line vents in the basement.the radiators furthest from the boiler should have the highest level of venting.
