The people in our town earlier made many requests with the municipality to take action for the conservation of forests at the outskirts of the city but corporation continued shunning their genuine demand. It was only after the people took to streets to protest against their indifference that the city management made concessions and banned commercial use of forests.

Hi Uyen Nguyen News Review is not subtitled to allow more advanced learners of English to better practise their listening skills. Many of our other programmes are fully subtitled and perhaps you would prefer one of those? If you like news-related content, we can recommend Lingohack. Here is the latest episode: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aaS7YYmrnr-Sic0

Concession is pronounced /kənˈseʃn/ in Oxford dictionary. But Catherine pronounced /kɔnˈseʃn/. Which one is corrrect? It seems Dan pronounced correctly with /kənˈseʃn/

Hi, in our culture, as people living in a Mediterranean city, we consider olives vegetables. Does this great tree grow in the UK? it mainly grows around the Mediterranean sea.

Although olive trees can grow in the UK, they are not common due to our cold winters. We love olives, though! 🙂

🦋 The school shuns any student who doesn't wear a uniform. 🦋 I held out an olive branch to my brother by promising to listen to him carefully. 🦋 The father made pay concessions to his son if he got high marks in college.

as an olive branch, I asked out my friend. is this correct?
@bbclearningenglish5 жыл бұрын
Usually, we do or say something as an olive branch to others. E.g. 'After their fight, he gave some chocolates to his sister to apologise for his earlier behaviour'.
@bbclearningenglish5 жыл бұрын
Hmm, after reading your comment again, we wonder if you mean: "I asked my friend out to dinner as an olive branch". Meaning that you asked them out to dinner to try and fix an issue between the two of you. Then, yes, this is correct! 🙂
