From where does this flex come from? Is It real FLEX or does it rotate in the base due to not enough clamping power and the fact that the joint has some play?

The base is solid but due to its length of 650 mm the aluminium ruler is milled along its length in the middle and thus the material is weakened.

@@Tech-3D ok, but those two inserts for drawing circles are also designed to stiffen the whole thing, so even with all four inserts spread evenly across the length it isn't rigid enough?
