Hongdui MT-2465 Pro Combination T-Square Hooked On Wood Edition Review *GIFTED*

In this video, a fairly in depth look at the Hongdui MT-2465 Pro Combination T-Square. This is a revamp of their original MT-2465 T-Square, done in collaboration with Dennis from the Hooked On Wood channel.
I think between them, they've created another fine tool. A wonder to behold and variety of uses.
I highlight some of the claims about the tool I'm not too convinced by but, I don't think it takes away from the tools merits too much.
This tool was provided to me for the purpose of review by Banggood.

Great review, Stew - as always very thorough. Re the tool free release / slight wiggle room. If you square it up properly when refastening the latch, is it likely to drift slightly out of square if it gets a few knocks, given that it seems to be relying entirely on the clamping action to hold the two pieces together?

Thank you mate. Good question. It's not something I've noticed. The clamping pressure is very strong but, if knocked I suppose the possibility is there. I admit to babying it though. Like, I take it off the wall unit, mark out, then it goes straight back on the wall. It's both too big to have lingering on my benches and, I'm too fearful of damaging the rule to risk knocking it around. I really like having it around for laying out larger slabs and don't want have to pay for a replacement by abusing it!

I saw Dennis’ review of the original T square and thought it was great that Hongdui acted upon his feedback and the flaws and limitations he identified. The resultant HoW edition is indeed a tool of beauty, very nice indeed. Thanks for the review Stuart

Thank you mate. Yeah, I think Dennis did a great job presenting flaws in the orig6and recommending improvements. That Hongdui took them on board is great. Similar to their colab with Katz-Moses on the router plane. It's seems good way of working. 👍

Great review as usual, this is for sure a Trophy tool for most hobby Woodworkers, but does look like something Thor himself would hold. Does some to have a major price hike for the tweaks they did after feedback from Dennis. Would love to see a smaller 400mm version, with matching price.

Cheers mate. Yeah, more a nice to have but, is a great tool. Once you add the extra couple of guides and the quick release mech, the price hike is about right I think. Like I say though, folk could just buy the OG version and add guides as needed if they can live without quick release. 👍

@@BischBaschBosch Hi yes on the price I was referring to the current selling price €65 is the best price today for the old version versus €145 for the HoW version. I cannot see a way to justify more than double the price. I guess one is just reduced to clear.

Could you use this square to create the locating MFT holes in a work bench? Follow up with a 20 mm forsner bit on a drill press. That might be a popular video!

For laying it out and doing 3mm pre holes, sure. Problem with using a 20mm forstner is they're 20mm. Dogs tend to be a 10th or so smaller so a bit loose in a 20mm hole. The ujk drill bit for mft's is a fraction smaller to allow for this. I'm not massively sold on home made mft's tbh. They need to be bang on to work properly. Cnc'd ones from bog standard mdf are only 50 quid or so. You're right though. Would probably be a popular vid. Just can't bring myself to so a how-to for something I'd never do myself.🤷‍♂️👍

@@BischBaschBoschI don't want a full MFT MDF. I am considering a few rows on my work table. In USA I have found very high pricing for MFT MDF boards.

@@petermchenry8185 Ah I see. For a few holes, it'd be ideal. I was just concerned if you wanted a fence and rail system via dog holes. Can't beat cnc accuracy for that. I did hand drill a couple of rows for my solid wood bench for use with the front vise. I could extend those rows as a demo perhaps 👍

Nice one mate. Hope it serves you well. Loving mine for laying out larger slabs. Recommend having somewhere on the wall for it or some such. Big old thing to have knocking round the bench and risk damaging the rule.👍

Good honest review Stew, I saw Dennis’s original videos and was impressed with the way they took his comments on board 👍. I bought the much cheaper Veiko T600 a few months ago and am very happy with it 😁.

Nice one mate. Nothing wrong with the veiko. Very good for the money. I can see how this one with the drill guides could be useful for fitters and cabinet makers but definitely a luxury tool.👍

Happy to see an independent review. Have you used the HONGDUI MT-2465 ? For 35$ you can add the extra scribe and drill guide. Are the larger holes and fast realease on the HoW version worh the extra 45$ in your opinion?

Cheers. I think when you add the extra scribe and drill guide, plus the quick release, the HoW Pro version is good value. The trammel function is genuinely useful and so, tool free separation is very worthwhile having. 👍
