Actually, Cy Yu, you said it correctly; you pronounce the U in Ruan Mei. It’s like the U in Yuan (as in Jing Yuan). And the instrument is called a Ruan (a Chinese string instrument)

I think the lack of variation in design is due to making too many female characters in either shorts, miniskirts, heels, or narrow split-skirts like this to show off the legs. It needs more variety not only in Xianzhou female characters, but most of them in general. Ruan Mei's outfit feels like it could do better with a different or wider skirt.

I mean to be fair (but not really, since I do see the repetitiveness) with a name like Ruan Mei, I wasn't too surprised about her design being very chinese. With black swan and firefly it looks like we will have some different design going forward and I guess Archeron count too. Hopefully they won't drop the ball and will change it up going forward and not just a bunch of chinese design.

@@thescorbunny9511 There are other types of fancy traditional Chinese outfits they can modernize other than qipaos, really. It could use more variation, design-wise. I like the veil on Black Swan, but not the short bottom appearing again. As for Acheron... I'm not sure. Edit: Not just the Chinese-based outfits, but I'm talking about most of the female characters in HSR.

I’m into the wuxia genre that the Xianzhou is based on, and I have a Chinese friend who I like to ask questions about their culture on. It’s disappointing we don’t get to see the extensive fashion since it’s all sexy qipao. For example, I think Ruan Mei would actually look more elegant and beautiful if she wore a cheongsam alongside a garment that can echo a lab coat, as a way to show she’s a scientist~

@@tigerlily2699just fyi, qipao = cheongsam! i think seeing characters in hanfu would be really nice, i do agree they could draw influence from other dynasties’ fashion and try more low neckline vs high neckline (the current ‘qipao’-inspired look, but their clothes still largely don’t resemble the traditional qipao to me) styles🤔 personally i adore Ruan Mei’s design and think it’s really beautiful, but I see your point in wanting more variety too.

I really like Dr. Ratio. I was going to be rolling into him and needed to win the 50/50 since I threw a 10 into Argenti because I wanted Hanya and got Argenti from my guarantied. The free Dr. Ratio makes me happy so now I can roll into Blade to try getting E1 Blade since I'm always using Blade along with Luocha.

I'm glad Cy yu has the same opinion as me in regards to the xianzhou female character designs, they all feel too samey that even if they're well designed and pretty it doesn't really elicit a strong reaction or impression because of how used you are to the designs. Which feels unfortunate cause Ruan Mei is very pretty and hot but at the same time I don't really particularly feel very strongly about it.

About ruan mei ult animation, I think most of the reason why it looks like a 4 star is because of harmony path. If we look at the only other 5* harmony, bronya, it’s pretty much the same if we talk about quality, it’s just a bit more dynamic. We’d have to wait until sparkle comes out to see if it’s actually like this

I completely agree that all the female characters have extremely similar designs, but it doesn't bother me all that much because of their distinct hair, eyes, and other features. That's one of the reasons I'm excited for Ruan Mei. I do see the complete contrast in quality between Ruan Mei and Dr. Ratio though. He immediately gets me really hype, and she gets me reasonably hype if I think hard enough about it.

As an artist I really liked the character design discussion. I will say, it is disappointing to realize that unless they are flat chested (Fu xuan +huo huo) they have the same collar line. There are plenty of ways to show off b00bs lmao Also, the Hanya and Mei comparison is extra noticeable because they were released back to back. They have nice DETAILS that distinguish them (DNA strands on Mei ❤) however if you break them down into their big pieces (the collar, the corset?, the 3 piece skirt) they are stepping on each others toes

I dont understand him at all. Ruan Mei looks exactly like everyone else but Xueyi is unique? They are the exact same character with only the two differences of hair length and eye color. Thats it. Im not really a fan of Ruan mei, and I love Xueyi too, but its because of animation differences. That and dps roles will almost always look cooler than support.
