The constantly moving riffs and sections is what gives their music that feeling of going on a journey to someplace. They also aren't shy about using unusual or shifting time signatures, which I'm a sucker for. In this song in a section near the beginning, it's in 6/8 but after every fourth bar they were throwing in an extra 3/8 bar. I think I noticed you both noticing something weird even though it was flowing nicely, and Alanna looked like she was trying to count it, right as the section transitioned away to the next part. I just love this band and I'm so glad you guys do too. 🤘😎

Michael, I know you are a folk metal lover like me. Just wondering if you go any quality bands you could recommend? I've listened to Finntroll, Summoning, Agaloch, Svartsot, Ensiferum, Wintersun, Amon Amarth, Eluveitie (which are all awesome) but could always do with more.

Also Korpiklaani ,Falkenbach and Nokturnal Mortum Oh yeah and Thyrfing.. who Moonsorrow are a fan of and they are like the closest to Moonsorrow if they made 5 minute songs.

You've got a good list there; it's pretty comprehensive. I'd definitely recommend Equilibrium, particularly their early work. Their album Sagas is one of the best things in folk metal. It's amazing. I'll be getting these two deep into Sagas probably early next year, but they've already reacted to Unbeseigt from that album. Equilibrium's first 4 albums are all good, but I feel like they've declined since then. I'd also recommend Folkearth and The Hu (not all folk metal is European), and Heilung, which is just the Scandinavian folk without the metal, but really cool.

Thanks for the reply. I'll definitely give Equilibrium a good listen .. I have heard of them but never really gave them a listen so thanks. And the others you mentioned. Can never have too many on the playlist.

@@RemyBonnicii would give Arkona a listen if you are looking for folk metal. The lead singer female and has quite the scream

They definitely still do live shows. The next one is in Mexico in December. And the album came out in 2005 but could easily have been released recently due to the overall quality of the sound and timelessness of the music.

fun fact : Moonsorrow record Varjoina kuljemme kuolleiden maassa (their 7th album) in a cabinet in the woods, so yeah, practically their studio is outside😆

I feel exactly the same in regards to the vocalist just being another instrument. Instead of the vocals being a separate entity that can take your focus off the music behind it, it becomes one with the song and adds a layer of emotion to it. And the point about making a 15 minute song feel like 5, was my thoughts as well. Im just glad you two are enjoying Moonsorrow similar to how i did the first time listening to it. They take me to another world as well and when i was younger i always wanted to find metal that took me to a forrest or mountain (thats just me) ... so when i found Moonsorrow it was like the missing piece i had been looking for my whole life. I look forward to seeing the final (first?) chapter from my favourite album of all time. Peace 🤘

Unless I'm mistaken, I believe they've yet to react to Karhunkynsi, the first track, as you mentioned, but they also haven't heard Kaiku, the fifth track.

@michaelclements5793 nah man you ain't mistaken. I did mention that there is a 5th song to them that's more of a camp fire song that I'm sure they will appreciate as an added bonus if they listen to the whole album. Karhunkynsi is next you can bet on it (I changed my request to that seeing as they were enjoying the album and it just seemed right)

I'm usually not one to listen to lyrics, but IMO this song has one of the most impactful lyrics of this century.
