It says a lot about how good a drummer is when a drum part for a song sounds like a tune in itself.
@panamajr72 жыл бұрын
Well the song was actually made by him, so it kind of makes sense in that case

Well if you a PhD in music like they do, you wouldn't be saying, "how good a drummer is..." you hoser! This is Dream Theater they're musical artists and know what their doing.

When 10 minutes of plain drums have beginning, developing, end and make a meaningful musical piece ...

The idiots who complain about portnoy using similar patterns in quite a lot of his drum fills fail to realize this simple thing. There is more to drumming than flashy fills and that includes playing drums as per the demands of the song. Portnoy does that better than almost every other prog metal drummer who might actually be more technical than him.

I've listened to this song countless times but I've never noticed until now all the ghost notes he hits in the section after the breakdown. That's freaking insane.

Can someone tell me: Around 6:00 Minutes it sounds kinda like there is another layer of drums going on. Like the snare is doubled with a some low floor toms. Is that my brain or is it actually on the recording but from a different session. I mean obviously this would require more than two hands so it would have to be a seperate recording.

tommy29380 i wouldn’t say that. mangini is still relatively new compared to portnoys 25 years. also manginis technicality simply blows portnoys out of the water. but this all depends on where you look at it from. both are fantastic
