I think youngripps59 is going to be a big player in putting black/African mythology and lore on the map if it ever gets to that point. Bro been making waves with his comic book company and he's stated on multiple occasions views similar to yours in this video and how he's got stuff cooking when it comes to drawing inspiration from African culture. I ain't glazing tho. 😂😂

Exactly bruh people who say that we stop making "hood" flims are blerds who are insecure in their blackness. (Being from the hood isn't an exclusively "black" thing) Even if those kind of movies aren't your thing (which is ok) we need to tell black stories from EVERY side of the spectrum. We need our Snowfalls, our Boondocks, our Boys in the Hood, even our Craigs of the Creeks, Dog Ningens The Jellies. We need shows like Atlanta (black shows that are more subversive) just as much we need shows like Snowfall. But yeah I do hope to see more black shows told from more unique perspectives

That's my gripes with most black movies a majority of Black films i see are gang related, life struggles, racism and slavery. This is a hot take but i hate the word diversity and inclusivity, people act there weren't diverse characters back in the 70s. Growing up in the 2000s i watched both old and new Movie/shows where they had compelling and well written characters regardless of race, gender, body type etc. People also act like it's something new and throw that term to show that they care. They also have this narrative to pander and beat the audience over the head with shit no one wants to hear, that is just tiring. You can be diverse without telling me your diverse and not pander. I watch Moon girl and devil dinosaur and i love that show because it didn't feel like it was pandering because how black she and her family is. Another hot take is the raceswapping Marvel and DC has a bunch of diverse character but only a small percentage of them get any recognition mean while the other characters are left on the shelf to collect dust. Instead they take an already exist white character and splash paint on them and be like here you go. Black people aren't reskins or stand in for white characters. But if you have a problem with that subject your racist or you're crying about a fictional character when all were asking is proper representation in media. It feels like their thinking of representation is multiple versions of the same character but gender and race swapped. Final hot take i get tired of seeing dreads, braid and corn rolls on black characters i'd like to see more different hairstyles from black characters

We really need to talk about the "I don't care about my own race and its communities, but I care only when it benefits me." mindset that these people truly have. That's why I never believe them when it comes to "Black representation", because the representation is very conditional. Rich and wealthy being the biggest condition.

You mentioned how black lead shows would normally replace the lead in S2 and then cancel the show in S3, and you also mentioned Orlando Jones in American Gods, he was absolutely phenomenal in that show, his Anansi scenes were always the highlight of each episode, and Ricky Whittle snacked him to protect his own career and the powers that be still dropped his ass. I still every now and again watch some of those Anansi scenes. The speech to the slaves on the boat, and his speech to unite the African Deities are some of the best acting I've ever seen. But it reminded me of Sleepy Hollow, the TV show I first saw Orlando Jones in, I'm pretty sure it was the first horror show to feature a black female lead (Nicole Behari) and surprise, surprise they made up claims of her being unprofessional and difficult to work with to replace her after S2. with a white/hispanic woman then cancelled the show after S3.

The lack of counternarratives is only symptomatic of a lack of diverse thought AND action within the community, as there is not enough of it, statistically speaking, to have lead to a more consistent stream of creativity that could break through the inherent barriers to accessing pop culture. It's always been a game of numbers, of who could thread the needle, and The Boondocks was a fucking miracle. Add to that, the denigration and disrespect cast upon practices and standards of many crafts, trades, and fields of study that are still pervasive in their ignorance, what we will inevitably see is "proscribed depictions" and nothing else. Proscribed, of course, by our white-liberal saviors and the business interests that have turned to "creating culture" purely around the support of such "proscriptions" that were never real or even accurate to begin with.

A cool idea also would be to have a story in which an African Explorer (similar to or like Ibn Battuta) in pre-colonial Africa explores the whole of West Africa, North Africa, East Africa, Central Africa and Southern Africa as a lifelong journey of cataloguing information about the very diverse and beautiful Societies of the African continent. I think this would be awesome.

To a point you said, we have a saying in Spanish that says "You don't become a propheit in your own land." To the effect of the video, for one, creators within a community a largely ignored within Latin American due to not being as cool like the foreign stuff (from the US, Europe and Japan when it comes to animation and comics). So most creators tend to go to those places and make a career for themselves, that is when they become relevant. And same with characters, ideas etc that are locally known but not used as a resource for creative projects. People seem to have the general idea that it's better when others do it because it has that cache of being worthwhile due to being an import to some extent. We only seem to care about animation set in Latin America when Disney does it but never pay attention to the times in the off chance that a local studio produces something based on the local culture and dismiss it as something passable at best. I think this is what happened to LeSean Thomas, he figured he needed to go to Japan and be known within that industry to even hope to be relevant to the targeted demographic back home. I understand it can be difficult to produce good stuff at a quality level within the resources you have at home (financing, distribution etc) but I do think there's a level of responsability from the audience to give it a chance. I don't believe in supporting mediocre projects, but trying to support what little is being put out there by the same people that are doing their best to make something good.

When a brother starts making way too much sense about postmodern black culture at 3AM, it really shows that our culture and society is degrading and it's really up to us to signify our own standards instead of looking up to the "white man" or other cultures in order to better ourselves instead of fighting amongst each other over our flaws. We need to be better, sure, but more importantly, we actually need to TRY. Then, and only then, will change be brought about in our favor for our quality of life to improve. We need to be better, and move on, that's it.

define better, then. if others have the attributes of what we decide is "better" then the result will be having Black people look up to other peoples. Being oppositional in aspirations to non-black just for the same of being oppositional results in the hood "culture" we see now. it's not beneficial to its practitioners. The solution is isolation, self definition, and not dickriding

I almost never and I mean NEVER comment or leave likes cuz I'm usually logged out of the social media platforms that I use but for this video I HAD to make an exception. Mr. Blackknuckle, this is my first vid I'm seeing from you and I found it while I was scrolling watching another video essay on animation and I am forever thankful that the algorithm showed me this. I would just like to say that I wholeheartedly agreed with just about EVERYTHING YOU SAID in this vid. As the cool kids say, "You ate and left no crumbs👌🏾👌🏾" Everything about this vid was spot on and spoke real truth about things I've had opinions on for quite some time. The video quality was spectacular and it's presentation was well executed, engaging, hilariously funny (had me cackling like a witch with most clips both "black" and "nerd" oriented) and easy to digest. It felt good to hear someone else on hear say things that I believe don't get heard alot or taken with enough seriousness. I also ABSOLUTELY APPRECIATE you using and making reference to smaller and indie creators who make works with black characters of their own so other people can find out about these works. Now haters can't say you didn't give examples to look for if they (the haters) can't take the time to look for it themselves. Most of the people you referenced were people I like and follow and you even introduced me to a couple new ones including YOU! I, myself, am a simple Bahamian-American girl (going on to do her bachelor's once i graduate) who wants to get into the creative/entertainment industry with my own brand of engaging and fantastical, inspiring, relatable or even just fun to read/watch stories with chars. who just so happen to be black (I also obviously make chars. of other races & ethnicities with the same love and care) in the primary roles both protag. & antag. with interesting world building and journeys that will make people want to explore what I have to offer and am working towards it eveyday. My goal is to become an animator and voice actress among other creative endeavors and know deep down in my soul from the drive that I've seen from other creators regardless of what their race white, asian, black, latino etc. they had passion, drive and hunger to make their dreams a reality. I AM THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN MAKE MY DREAMS BECOME REAL! NOT DISNEY, NOT MARVEL, NOT SHONEN JUMP, NOT MY FRIENDS AND NOT MY MOM, they don't know EXACTLY what I want and how BADLY I want it; hardship, struggles and obstacles BE DARNED!! Mr. Blackknuckle I pray that God helps you achieve all that you set out to do and to anyone else who shares this mindset. You all can and WILL achieve amazing things as long as you put in the time and effort and passion to see it come to fruition in a way that will satisfy you, not the masses, not just one particular race of people, not social media, satisfy you! Thank you SO MUCH for making this and continue to be great!⭐❤️💯🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾....and my fingers hurt now🙃 and it took me almost a whole 20mins to type this cuz my screen is broken, another reason why I don't comment often. But I'm definitely sharing this around💫

While extremely unlikely, I don't think it's impossible for a white or Japanese creator to do justice to black characters and stories. In recent years we had Ghost of Tsushima as a love letter to the works of Akira Kurosawa made by a team of western devs and it got nothing but praise from Japanese audiences and outlets. It proves that it is entirely possible to faithfully and respectfully present something built entirely around a culture you yourself aren't a part of. Just a matter of care and research. That said, it's such an extreme rarity that I agree expecting such things to come from outside the culture being depicted is unrealistic

I'm not black, far from it, however I am half-japanese and can somewhat relate to some of these points (esp relating to full ass white ppl crying for us while shoving corks down our tearducts). Something I've always loved is reading stories made by those who are far from the same ethnicity as me, yet still include characters like me that are written from the heart. THAT is what I want. Not that "token ____ character" bullshit. I want a story made with a character like me included with genuine care and respect!! I want a japanese character made by a non-japanese writer that exists because they can be written realistically into the story, not because they should exist for brownie points or because they're needed to tick off some arbitrary box. I and other Japanese folk are NOT tokens, neither is anyone else!

And I’m so sorry about this, a lot of blerds criticize black content from indie or black animators to the point it’s pitiful. Lessen Thomas made Yasuke anime, and black people tore that show apart. The reason was bc of the fantasy elements and mechs. Me being a black artist/writer I had the privilege of finding a yt vids of Lesean Thomas in my late teens. If you knew this man’s creative inspiration of 80’s and 90’s anime, which had a lot of sword&sorcery and mech animes, then you know his creative stance and appeal. Yasuke was 🔥🔥🔥 and Leason Thomas is great animator. Black peoples stop tearing down your people when they give us want we want. Respect and buy the work. Now with that said, I love my people, Blaccknuckle got a huge point.

I was really into Yasuke until a little bit into the first episode when the fantasy stuff started showing up. I believe Yasuke would have done better and received positive without that. I for myself have always been into the history of Yasuke ever since Nioh 1 and 2 (games he was in). That's kinda what most people were expecting I feel. Just a straight realistic, historical representation of Yasuke. But I guess, not everything is for everyone.

Some times I feel like we're our own worst enemy. Mainstream media will always promote the worst of us. Clips of us fighting and stealing go viral every week. Most black movies depict us having to sell drugs or be involved with gangs. In school, we'd rather look cool than succeed. It doesn't help that we have issues with family members (or lack thereof) And some black parents aren't ready to be parents which continues this negative cycle. Honestly, it depresses me when I think about it.

Even though I’m not THAT much apart of the blurd community that much due to not having a lot of social media. Though I did see a video of someone talking about how black woman doesn’t actually want black nerds. Anyway. I believed that representation matter and we need different type of stories of black peoples. Why? Cause not every black person is the same and or have the same backstory. There are black gay man. There are black bi woman. There are black peoples who lived in the ghettos. There are black peoples that lives in the rich suburbs. While we have a lot in common in how we had and still face racism. but a lot of the arguments in the beginning aren't even being engaged with or turned into strawmen. Like the criticism isn't that there are too many Japanese people, its that black people are usually depicted in racist ass ways if we're depicted at all but anime doesn't seem to have this problem with white people. Repeatedly saying that artists can make what they want just ends the conversation

This truly resonates with me as I recently released a fantasy/sci-fi novel, "The Collective: Forsaken Faith," which features a melanated protagonist. And although I'm genuinely grateful for the support from those who have purchased and shared my book, I've noticed that my primary audience consists mainly of Caucasians. This is disheartening to me because my main goal was to provide representation and a voice to those who often feel unseen or underrepresented in genres like sci-fi, fantasy, etc.

Loved this entire video, it's incredibly well-researched, and I haven’t found myself agreeing with someone more on black issues and issues in the black nerd and media community in my life, and as a Blerd and an artist myself, I had no clue the Blerd community was so toxic... Especially as someone who finds race-swapping insulting tbh, I assumed it was mostly the normie groups supporting all of that, but hearing how you’ve been through groups of people that are just full and built from toxic Blerds made me think.. Damn. A little disappointed. But I don’t fully get with the idea of segregating media and businesses like we can’t enjoy and support black characters in media not run by other black people, or work with companies led by people that aren’t black. However, I would enjoy more of our people being the leaders of their own media companies and conglomerates, there aren't enough of us in that space when there really should be. In the end, we’re all working under somebody, and if they so choose they could shut us down, or fuck us over if they so choose, for any reason they choose.

I saw this comment on reddit and I think this is superb tbh. ''TL;DR: Negative perceptions and reluctance to explore unfamiliar narratives contribute to the lack of demand for diverse African representation in media. These perceptions, rooted in stereotypes and historical biases, dissuade audiences from engaging with authentic African stories. Additionally, systemic issues within the entertainment industry, such as a lack of diversity in decision-making roles, perpetuate stereotypes and underrepresentation. Despite these challenges, there's hope for change through research, amplifying diverse voices, and advocating for authentic representation. Don't rely solely on Hollywood for authentic black stories As an African in the Diaspora, I understand. Negative perceptions and a reluctance to explore unfamiliar narratives largely contribute to the lack of demand for diverse African representation. These perceptions are often rooted in stereotypes and historical biases, dissuading people from checking out authentic African stories. Furthermore, there's a hesitance among some audiences and media to deviate from established tropes, perpetuating oversimplified portrayals that fail to capture the complexity of African cultures, compared to away Europe Systemic issues within the entertainment industry amplify this problem. The underrepresentation of diverse voices in decision-making roles leads to a greater likelihood of stereotypes and a lack of authentic representation. If theres no Africans in the writing room, who would correct any misconceptions? Commercial considerations often prioritize marketability over diversity. Movies have to sell to the general audience, not just a specific group of people. Take the Magical Negroesr film that was just pulled from theaters after barely 3 weeks. There mightve been a market for it, but it didn't apoeal to the GE. And some people even had weird arguments about the film, about how they were expecting like Black Hogwarts but got black guilt lol. Markets drive interest, resulting in the replication of familiar stories, of what works and is what the audience might be comfortable seeing, rather than the lesser-known and niche but equally significant historical figures and settings. Also, limited education about African history further biases audiences. Growing up, the only thing we learned of Africa in my textbooks in my very liberal state, was just of the slave trade and colonialism and Jim Crow. If you wanted actual African or black histories, you had to be blessed that your teacher didnt skip that section, or that you had a teacher who focused on non-Western nations in World History. You even see it in some red states where they're limiting critical race theory being taught in schools and again, further teaching on marginalized groups like Africans. I'm glad that my parents were integrated, but still had their community in the form of religious and social gatherings. And that thru spoke the language at home. They still have heavy accents 30 years later and confuse gender pronouns in the case of my mom, but they still kept their culture and regularly go back home. Leading stories and beliefs in society, which are heavily influenced by Western values and perspectives, tend to uphold stereotypes and exclude alternative viewpoints. Media creators, who may not fully understand or appreciate the cultures theyre talking about, can unintentionally continue to promote stereotypes or misrepresent cultures entirely. Fear of mishandling sensitive topics or cultural nuances may indeed deter media creators from exploring diverse narratives. Without confidence in their ability to represent these topics accurately and respectfully, creators may opt for safer, more familiar storylines. You can get wrong things wrong, and you're being canceled for not being educated or trained to handle that topic sensitively. Why risk it? Like, it's understandable to have reservations about the potential backlash that could come from the creation of an African-inspired fantasy setting. Disney released Iwaji, a Nigerian sci-fi fantasy story, despite Nigeria not even being in the userbase! The platform isn't even in the country and you wanna set it they're??! Please But going back to the point, despite the desire for diversity and representation, there's a concern that any attempt to explore such narratives may be met with criticism and misinterpretation. The fear of being accused of reinforcing stereotypes or promoting problematic themes can be daunting for creators. In my experience, growing up in the States, I've noticed how media often portrays certain ethnic groups or cultures in a limited and stereotypical manner. For instance, characters from Asian backgrounds are frequently depicted as academically successful but socially awkward, perpetuating the "model minority" stereotype. I watch video essays of people who are Asian descent, are frustrate because they get things about their community wrong. I know some things from that group because my home city is mostly Asian Filipino, and i don't know much about their beliefs of my neighbors, but it's only their beliefs. They represent a person or a family, not ac whole group. It's like when people refer to Africa, I'm like where? Africa has 54 countries, its not just one big mega-city. Similarly, when media creators lack cultural sensitivity or awareness, they may unintentionally reinforce these stereotypes, hindering the portrayal of more authentic representation. To address these challenges, it's important to challenge stereotypes actively and embrace narratives that reflect the richness and diversity of African cultures. This entails conducting thorough research, amplifying diverse voices, and advocating for authentic representation. While Hollywood may lag in this regard, there's an abundance of diverse stories waiting to be discovered from independent creators and alternative sources. Ultimately, by challenging stereotypes, amplifying diverse narratives, and advocating for authentic representatio, we can work towards a more accurate portrayal. Like u/Illustrious-Day8506 said, If you're seeking authentic black stories, don't rely solely on Hollywood to provide them. Africa is already taking the lead over their own stories. Nollywood is top 3 in movie output in the WORLD, and you can look at for free on KZbin or Netflix. There's a wealth of things waiting to be discovered outside of mainstream media. You can be frustrated with the portrayal of Africans But if you want black stories, don't wait for Hollywood to direct them. It's out there; look for it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fH6Vf6OKe61le6ssi=Hb8beLMdp-MriB2_ www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/nov/28/africans-worry-how-africa-portrayed-western-media www.google.com/amp/s/www.okayafrica.com/amp/the-africa-in-the-media-report-shows-how-africans-are-misrepresented-in-american-television-2628177989 www.google.com/amp/s/nigerianobservernews.com/2024/03/misrepresentation-of-african-popular-culture/%3famp thegiftthatkeepsongiving.net/?p=295 kzbin.info/www/bejne/kGS2oWSMd85nm5Isi=ZT4hZv2NhEBKgJfi kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKjSYXyjqKp5Y68si=890QP3XgiI9akhuS kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5TTY3SrdrBnndEsi=X1FORD3RQVDGwTY1 kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKCoaWlroLV6ibssi=23WZOB1CG8t5MQZg''

I have no idea why black men and women dislike each other ao much. At one point in my life, I have had a preference for every type of woman aside from south asian and middle eastern. At the end of the day, I realized my poor thoughts of black women came from my shaky relationship with my mom and some of my cousins. I got over that. Prefering someone purely on skin color is shortsighted as well as strange. How can there be so many dimensions to a human being, and people pick one that has very little practical significance. The only things more shallow than skin color are hair color and eye color. A well-raised black woman or man is no less than any other race. I believe a lot of good black people either feel they have no options or they think other black people are beneath them. Regionally, the former could be true. The latter will never be true.

39:35 Imma be real about Miles love intrest, Tiana was only created because Editor Akira Yoshida (a white guy using a Japanese pen name) is a Gwen fanboy and was mad at the Sitting on the Tree Arc. Don't get me wrong black romance is cool, but it get's real sus when the creative staff don't look you.* *I prefere black romance writen by black creators rather than non-black ones. Non-black ones do it because they don't black characters dating outside thier race. Black romance creators have more heart to it.

Alot of black creators riding the independent train, promoting, announcement, new developments and riding the one series they had when they could've built their career. They want to represent us but never make it available or try to put it on a streaming service to make it profitable. Or make a co story far from the original, i mean anything is relative. But instead we got to bid for their series and hope they do something better.

I wholeheartedly agree with your take on this topic. I've come across so many videos since last year to now of fellow black anime fans making videos complaining about the lack of black characters in an Asian media. Despite the fact that Asian media reflects their real lives to a certain extent. I've seen them purposely using the worst portrayal of black people in anime as evidence of anti black sentiment from Japan. Ya'll know the evidence I'm referring to the big donut lip characters. And to me, it comes off as bad faith when they barely focus on all the good ones and would rather mention the worst ones that are clearly from an older era of a clearly racial depiction. I'm so tired of this topic and the bad faith criticisms I've seen some people make without any research beyond an already biased perspective or opinions.

there is anti blackness everywhere including japan which yes is featured in anime no one should deny that especially when so much anime/manga romantisize europe/europeans but demonize black ppl or africa as a joke but yea the discourse around black characters and stories in general just tells me there's not enough outlets for black creators to do whatever they want without executives or producers breathing down their necks which include indie/mainstream comics, movies and Tv shows, dwayne mcduffie was still met with resistance in the industry, lots of shows in the 90s for black ppl or the mainstream was either segregated, undervalued, copied or ignored, stories about black pain sells more apparently to execs than stories about black boys going on adventures or girls falling in love or ordinary coming of age stories because of already ingrained stereotypes so it makes it super hard for the old guard to let go of those ideas thats where most of the problems come from hell the boondocks was met with extreme backlash just for existing and having oulandish comedic and authentic dialogue, when black creators get complete opportunities and not scraps i'll be happy, ppl can argue all they want but the industry is still divided as hell

@nyxb802 Bro, Asian people being influenced by European beauty standards isn't anything new. You haven't provided modern-day evidence of anti-black sentiment towards dark skinned people and use us for nothing more than to be a joke, punching bag, or demonizing us. I've watched a lot of anime since 2014 and have seen more cool black characters who are portrayed in the complete opposite direction of what you claim. Examples are black characters from bleach, fire force, Naruto, one piece, black lagoon, etc. There are even some from animes I haven't even watched yet that have great designs.

@@KallaTheYapper347 ok??...so eurocentric aligned stereotypes of black ppl still affects anti blackness in japan whether its actual half black/ japanese kids that are bullied in school and caricatures ect also lmao the fact that your happy with scraps all the ppl in these series are minor af characters and YES there is stereotypes in anime/manga, isnt the black guy from baki/bobobobo/ one punch man,DBZ ect are like memed to death because of the caricatures , that guy from shaman king💀there was whole discource about that maid lady from promised neverland? the rapist from berserk which im still 50/50 on but he's also the most prominent black guy character thats important to the series like yikes bro theres bunch of other examples of course there's great black characters in anime especially in the recent years especially when they fix designs like canary from hunter x hunter ,im not denying that there's no good black characters im just saying im not holding my breath as if anime is going to be my answer for black representation, like its nice when it happens but its not the end all be all we gotta support black creators that make stories for themselves as main characters as well

@@starsofnysar Before i start, a little advice, please add spaces and periods to any future comments so they all don't look like one whole sentence block of words. Also, you need to remain focused on what the topic that we are discussing is because from my view you're bouncing all over the place. I said that i don't see any anti-blackness in any anime I've watched, so i don't agree with the idea that there is anti-black sentiment belief from Japan throughout the Anime Media. So lets stick to that please. Firstly, black characters in anime playing minor roles ISN'T scraps. That's equivalent to saying that any black character in Boondocks that weren't a part of the main cast are scraps. Black characters can play in all roles in a story from random background characters to information deliverers, main characters, supporting characters, villains, and so on. The fact that people were upset that the antagonist of Wednesday was black and tried to paint the narrative that black people can't and shouldn't play villains because it was somehow "Racist" was absolutely stupid. Like, can black people only be viewed as saints who can do no wrong when playing fictional characters or existing irl? Real "scraps" are Blacked Washed characters that are meant to represent us Black Americans in our american media which aren't even worth a damn. In comparison to the black characters from early 2000's cartoons and Anime who all were completely different from each other in terms of character design, personality, and story importance. Just because there are black characters that get memed on doesn't make that an exclusive black racial issue because their white or Asian counterparts get memed on even more so. The discourse over the black maid was stupid because again people think that black characters can't/shouldn't be allowed to be villains nor antagonist. I won't call Canary's re-imagined design a "fix" because there wasn't anything racist nor anti-black about it to begin with. The problem was that it was just a bad character design. lastly, i'm not the type of person who waits patiently for Asian authors to finally write black characters because i'm dying to see more. If they choose to put them in their stories that cool, if they don't there isn't a problem. I also agree that black creators making anime inspired content with cool weird and interesting ideas should be supported I've never argued against it. One such product was about a young black girl who is a forger and it's a part of the world-building of the story. I can't remember the name tho. Now i agree there is anti-blackness in terms of their beauty standards but that's only skin deep. The true issue is simply a cultural one because the Japanese are a people who desire to maintain their culture and for them to do that they have to not allow another people's culture to overtake theirs. Not to mention the very non-existent percent of the black population in japan in the first place. Even though Europe had the most contact with Japan in world history it didn't cause the core of their culture to change it, only forced them to get caught up with the rest of the world so that they were seen as a nation with power and had a seat at the table. Not only that, but it isn't crazy that the Japanese would rather breed with people who share similar features to themselves even though they would prefer a fellow Japanese person instead. They aren't obligated to marry black people nor date us. if they do, that's cool. if not, it's whatever.

Heck, just have what if Africa wasn't colonized? and play with that and I think you could come up with a lot more grounded stories than Black Panther for example especially when it comes to politics e.g. how would the Somali sultanates and West African states fare without colonialism? or could there have been a Khoisan state society that formed with influence from Bantu ethnic groups/Bantu states?, etc That would be very cool imo. (on the other hand, a Black Author or Creative or creator could just come up with 'Black Power Fantasies' with Overpowered Black Characters with powers derived from the Continent of Africa's many, many mythological creatures like spirits, gods, monsters, etc with even Spiritual Inanimate objects thrown in there too to enhance the power fantasy). What do you think about these ideas?

Hey man, just from the way you come off tone wise, I know I gotta check out your art and that manga when it gets made 😊 I mean the clips in the video were funny, but, I didn’t expect to be nodding my head so much to the self-worth stuff. Im white, so I’ve always had a seat at certain tables, but when you used that folding chair analogy? Shit was great! (I won’t steal it lol🤞) I’ll be sticking around to see if you and Tephlon Funk rise in popularity in the future. Kinda thinking that IS the future. And I hope people from all communities recognize the commitment you make to elevating art. Also, I had no idea there were blerds out there who hate each other so much they’d fall for one of my ilk. I’ll spare you my self-loathing stories Keep being you

I've had this conversation many times with people. Representation WITH at least some originality is what would be great. There's a lot of untouched stories from Africa and things to utilize without straight up race swapping existing well established characters. I suggest checking out Eric July's Rippaverse comic he started. He speaks on the same things you've mentioned in this video.

1:34:45 Ironic you mention this. I just made a video on this concept I’ve dubbed “Social Capital” and why other people can make media that deviates from their positive norm and be accepted because of this abundance of Social Capital. It’s like the idea that it takes 7 No’s to equal 1 Yes. So how many No’s can counter 1 Million Yes’s? Answer: _doesnt matter_ those who set up a positive narrative have enough positive investment on certain images of certain people that negative images can be considered _outliers_ while those oppositely can considered _affirmations_ . Imo, it’s part of what fuels confirmation bias.
