Finally, a useful eye makeup tutorial for those of us who are 40+. My takeaway is to stop using glimmery shine above my crease. I always thought we were to highlight the brow bone, but I can totally see how this just isn't the case when the upper lid begins to droop, like mine. So nice to hear someone addressing that what works for a youthful eye is not the case with an aging eye. Very good job, and thank you. Subscribing.

Someone commented on being 50 something and learning. Imagine being 73 and excited to learn this simple way of making a beautiful eye! Amazing. I have a new lighted mirror with three magnified areas coming on Saturday. Thank you so much for these videos. I cannot wait to try this. When I master this one I will try some of your other ideas. Big cyber hug. 😘💕 PS I did my very first lesson this morning. You should have seen me with my iPad set up on my vanity to watch as I tried to follow taking my glasses on and off to see the video then try to see my eyes in my magnified mirror in bad lighting. lol (I have a new lighted mirror coming tomorrow) But I did it!!! Oh my what a difference. I cannot believe how high I had to go. It made so much sense as I did it myself. It will take a few times with the right kind of shadows but I love it!!! You are so very good with your instructions. I cannot thank you enough for helping me feel so much better about how I look - COPD oxygen tubing and all. When I started wearing wigs a couple months ago, I said if they have to figure out if I am wearing a wig, then it takes the mind off the tubing. lol Cannot wait to see and try more lessons. xoxo

honestly I don't understand why people are complaining that you're talking too much.. I think that you really took your time to explain why you place the eyeshadows in exact the areas where you have placed them, so that people truly understand whats the tricky thing about droopy eyes. I'm a Make-up Artist and even after so many eyemake-ups that I did on hooded, droopy eyes its still a challenge on some eyeshapes. So great job in explaining and performing a nice make-up! :-D

Love this! I've never seen a tutorial for this. I really like how you present your "flaws" in such a neutral manner and then show how to make the best of what you got. Sometimes I have to laugh when I see these young girls teaching about makeup. Years of learning and practice do count!
Also funny is the fact that the makeup they do make them look older

It is 2020 (4 yrs later) and this video is still helping people like me...I am 53 and although I rarely put any makeup on, I am now!! You have helped me tremendously with this video. I am constantly told by my 28yr old daughter that I need "makeup on", because I have a KZbin channel and people expect it. She's right, my viewers LOVE when I'm wearing makeup but I wasn't sure how to apply the eye-shadow in a way that it wakes up my lids. Thank You and remember (as I tell my viewers) there are NO RULES to applying makeup.💜

Nisha, I wish I had seen this video 3-4 years ago, when most of the comments were made. I am 64 and gave up on wearing eye shadow years ago. I figured that with my hooded eyes, you couldn’t see the makeup anyway, so why bother? Your video changed my life! I had a stroke at 44, so I have a deficit on my right side and can’t use my right hand at all. (Go figure, I used to be right handed) It took a bit of practice, but I’m getting better! Thank you SO much for the detailed step by step instructions! I can’t wait to watch more of your tutorials. Very well done. Enjoyed this and didn't find it too long. It was detailed with reasons behind each step. I was very happy to spare the time. Your accent is enjoyable and the way you did comparison eyes were very excellent. It was very motivational and helped me understand why I could never do the wing and why it always looked silly. Now I'm older I prefer not having a wing as it looks overdone anyway and not real (at my age). I will be looking at more of your clips and the serene background and no music was a welcome relief! I could just KISS you!!! Thank you so much for this video. I'm 52 years young, and FINALLY someone has taught me something I can do on MY EYES. Since I was a teen, I've tried, unsuccessfully, to (a) mimic popular trends, (b) use old-fashioned methods, (c) have friends do my makeup, (d) follow the advice of other you-tubers with hooded eyes, (e) and even had make up done professionally, several times, with the hope of learning something that "I" could do with "MY EYES". The results have always been the same... Dash home, stealth style, with the hope that no one I know, sees me on the way. Sneak into the bathroom, and scrub the ridiculous clown look off of my face. I finally get it! You gave me the best 2 tips I ever have gotten. I already know they will work with my eyes! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Shelly

This was great! I have always struggled with trying to minimize my hooded eye lids, even when I was young. I’m 62 now and well, it is a whole new ballgame. While I have been using matte browns in the crease, I need to bring it up farther, and I need to stay away from the shimmery color except in the very middle. I really love the 7 at the corner, what a difference that makes as liner just doesn’t work for me anymore on the outer edge. Thanks so much for the demo!

Thanks for this video. I recently started to watch a lot of tutorials on hooded eyes and mostly it made me quite annoyed because most of the people who do these tutorials don't actually have hooded eyes at all, and what they suggest doesn't work at all for me. You are the first person to say that we shouldn't be too hanging on to the idea of winged eyeliner because it might not even work for us, and you are totally right. I've tried several trics and hacks and because my eyes get different levels of "hoodiness" at different days (depending on sleep, hydratation, whatever), sometimes some of them work. But mostly instead of any eyliner or pencil I also find it best to just use a bit of dark brown shadow on the outter top third (and for more drama on the bottom, too). I don't do a lot of make-up, I am too lazy and I touch my face a lot so I preffer natural face, but I'd like to upgrade my game a bit anyway, so I am thinking about purchasing the thin pointy brush for eyeshadows. I never had or tried that but it seems to be much better for this than the usual round brush that comes with eyeshadows.

Nisha, thank you so much for this informative video. I was born with heavy hoods and bags (the good news is that my eyes have not aged in 67 years). Plastic surgeons don't want to operate on someone with my extreme allergies, so I am stuck with my eyes. My hoods actually rest on my upper lashes -- as if my lashes were a hammock. I have no mobile lid when my eyes are open, so highlighting the centre of my upper lid is a no-go. I looked around until I found a powder eyeshadow that mimics the look of an actual shadow on my skin. I do not use eye cream or primer or foundation on my upper lid. I just gently rub in the taupe eyeshadow with my finger from lash line to a bit below my eyebrow. The shadow stays put without creasing or migrating all day. I do the powder eyeliner just like you do. No false lashes for me (they are hammocks, after all). All I can hope for is to do a bit of correction -- enhancement is out of the question. This method really helps. Sometimes, I remove my makeup at night but reapply some eyeshadow just to maintain the illusion.

Gosh, thank you for this. I'm 47, and this past year the shape of my eyes (incl. my eyebrows and lashes) has started to change, leaving me frustrated and perplexed as to what to do and how to do it. Really helpful! I was 'somewhat" on the right track. Tips you taught me... do the crease first, makes perfect sense. You look beautiful! TY so much!

I have also done professional makeup and lots of the tips you show are the ones I use on my hooded eyes. I love the shimmer tip in the middle. And you are so right about the shimmer on the lid in the wrong area, it makes things worse. The eyeliner tip is also so on point, I struggle with the desire for a wing lined eye but that does not work too well for eyes like ours. Just touching that lash line with a dark color is fine. I love to change my makeup look all the time. Great job! I also learned more today.lash placement is such a pain. Do a gym makeup tutorial, I play with that all the time, I can't go with a plain face. 😙

Freaky...I think I have seen a few 'makeup artist' who use umpteen different products but you have me mesmerised. I was looking left and right at both of your eyes. The difference is amazing...one up and one definitely down. Well done and a good tutorial. I must admit, I have one go to style for my eye makeup...and it isn't even that great but I will try to do this tomorrow for a luncheon with friends. Thanks again and I'll check out your other videos...

Beautiful! Love your right eye, and how the shimmery shadow is placed so it makes the eye (not the hood!) pop. Gorgeous! This 51-year-old is looking forward to trying these tips. :)

I'm so happy to see this update! I discovered you years ago when i noticed my eyeshadow was hidden when i opened my eyes...you really opened my eyes (ha!) to the techniques i needed to use, due to my hooded eyes. I never looked back. But now, many years later and older, i found you again and this time subscribed yay! Thanks for sharing x

I don't have hooded eyes, but I enjoyed your video and throughout explanations very much! I trust you are so helpful for so many women out there... Most KZbin gurus do just basic tutorials only for their own type of eyelids, which is not very helpful for the wide variety of audience they have.

Initially I have to tell you, regarding what you say at the start of the vid that your eyes look ‘sad’ THEY DO NOT! It’s amazing what we see in the mirror or camera that only we see in ourselves. Looking at you from the start all you see is a very pretty woman who looks young for her age and has an enjoyable face. You also look like the singer Dido you must have heard that many times. I can’t wait to watch the rest and I hope you’re still making videos as this is a few years old. Love Angel from England xx

Thank you so so much for this video, simple really but an amazing difference. I can't believe that I've been doing it the wrong way for so many years. Can't wait to apply my eye makeup and see how much better my eyes will look. I have the awful combo of hooded eyelids and eyebags. I've subscribed and look forward to seeing what else I might change in my application.

I love this technique. And you're right on both of the things you pointed out about the lower lid. Darker shading under your eye diminished the appearance of bags and the shimmer under your eye did make your eye look tired. Two great points that I'm glad you covered. Thank you for this tutorial!

Ok I apparently shouldn't have typed my previous comment because it literally made zero sense. So I'll try it again, simply put thank you so much for doing this and actually explaining why you should do it that way. I didn't even realize there was such a thing of hooded 👀, but apparently there is which is why I've always had such trouble making my going out eyes look sexy, but I found this one day just to see what it was. Then I thought ok this slow enough for me to play and keep up with it, so I did it for my date night with the hubs, and the compliments I received had me feeling like WOW! Really that big of a difference! That's insane! But I wanted to just say thank you so much for teaching me how I should be doing my eyes with the least amount of effort, and makeup for the best results! Huge huge thank you!!!'

Really enjoyed your video. These are great do's and don'ts. When you mentioned that your are a "magician," it reminded me of a time in 1984 (I had recently turned 30). I was having my makeup done, and the stylist applied just a bit of lighter, shimmering shadow right in the center of my eyelid (as you demonstrated in your video). She called it "the magic spot," and I have never forgotten that! It's an easy, effective way to open the eye. Thank you Sugar!
