Just discovered Dwarf Fortress and shortly after your channel. These little tales and the way you tell them are massively entertaining. My first fort was destroyed when I thought it a good idea to put a corpse stockpile next to the food. I'll let you fill in the rest.

My last one was ruined when an ancient evil black turtle emerged from the Caves and proceeded to asphyxiate my fort as he killed all my soldiers by spitting multiple fireballs per shot. A breve speardwarf proceeded to maim the Beast, but it was already too late, as the amount of fumes and fire killed my FPS.

​@@Dianbleroh no that sounds like my lost fortress. I took too long making fantastic bedroom for 84 dwarfs with All walls and floors engraved. The tavern was frequently visited by ports, bards and swordsman. Just as I started to build baracks, a blind giant pink shelled titan turtle killed All my dwarfes with his spider webs. As only one dwarf Was left behind and run paniking around the fortress, a famous dancer group visited my fortress, just to be stomped by this beast... Losing is FUN

I'm so glad I found your channel. The stories that people tell from Dwarf Fortress are so grotesquely specific, you can't make this shit up. I'm only getting into this game now that it's on Steam. I'm slowly learning it with enemies disabled to see how to plan building and mining to achieve any sense of efficiency and it's quite difficult to figure out but so incredibly FUN. This game completely destroyed my concept of "deep systems" in video games. It's truly, without exaggeration, absolutely insane.

Wish I could get my stockpiles to actually collect toys. Try as I might, the dwarves don't ever seem to want to move any toys into any of the stockpiles I have set up. Of course they aren't moving "trash" to the trash stockpiles either. I'm sure I'm screwing up the stockpile settings somehow, but I can't see what it is. With 100+ dwarves, the only thing they seem to want to move to the stockpiles is rotten food and bug carcasses.

I made a couple bins but they take either wood (which the tundra doesn't have) or metal (which I would rather make swords and cage traps and things with)! plus I just visually like the look of a big stockpile

definitely seems like you are running into an aquifer. I would recommend embarking somewhere without one because they can be kind of annoying to deal with - I'm pretty sure the wiki has tips if you want to try though. To make a well you build it above some water from the building > machines & fluids menu

This time I am in an area bear river where there is clay and lots of aquafiers. How to I get passed aquafiers and to stone? My Dwarven people are stone starved.

Just a tip, you don't need fresh water for your dwarves to deal with thirst. They prefer alcohol, so let the still do the job. Freshwater is really only good for cleaning wounds, giving water to the wounded, and of course letting the dwarves wash themselves (you need soap for this). Merry christmas and cheers. Hope you bought plump helmet wine for the family!

lol it is just a habit at this point, I didn't know how to make alcohol in dwarf fortress for years and so I often forget wells aren't the only option

Wile wells into the caverns is *fun* having a still near your food stockpile with a repeating work order that checks daily if drink is less than 10 produce 10 drinks. Bonus points for a mason/woodcutter with a repeating work order for if barrels is less than 10 make 10 barrels. Litterally never have to think about drink ever again with these two work orders. (and plants to brew but if you are out of food you have bigger fun going on)
