Im an Afro latina of Native American decent, no matter how light my skin is,( because ive heard and seen ppl rudely coming for me in comments on Social media) i was born into hoodoo this is how my grandma, and the big mamas in our family raised us! We didnt have books back then " To learn" We studied and watched and learned everything they did and what they told us to do. This was our way of life on a daily. I didn't notice anything different. Until I got older and noticed my friend's family's We're not doing these things or practices. That's when I knew what we grew up in and how sacred it is. But to be honest When I see white people trying to get on this bandwagon, it's seriously infuriates me.Ashe ❤

Hoodoo is specific to African Americans (descendants of US slaves) Afro Latinos have their own cultural practices like Santeria, espirtismo, 21 Divisions etc depending on what Latin American country they are from.

I'm white Mexican (aztec) and Native American (Shawnee) and i practice Haitian voodoo it's brought but good things. But hoodoo? Man ms what planet is that woman from because Ms Hoodoo is for (not racism intended) but only African Americans some African religions are open but most are not i grew up with a black family and most of my cousins are black and i told them I'm a voodooist they support it but one day I asked them about hoodoo! Ms do you know how hard they laughed me and that was just outta being curious some things Ms i DO agree about African religions/magic..... let's just say Ms Voodoo Santeria and Umbanda Palo Mayombe (VERY RARELY THOUGH) are very open but when it comes to Hoodoo white people shouldn't get too comfortable. I studied Hoodoo and ms it literally said it's only for African Americans! Common Sense Ms is what she's lacking so please Ms have mercy on certain idiots

I do agree, but it is kindve a weird thing when you find out your grandmother is actually mixed (african, irish, turkish) and not just naturally really tan like you grew up being told and then the melanin gets washed out of your family 2 generations later. My moms family originates about from appalachia about three generations ago. Decided to start researching my family through a local state historian and i found this out. Confused me. I still am white because i grew up white and have never experienced the life and society from the point of view of blackness, but it still gave me an identity crisis for a little bit. Im just learning what i can while respecting the cultures and the roots of the practice of appalachian conjure. Its not necessarily the same as hoodoo, but takes a lot of its roots from hoodoo as it is produced from the mixture of religions in the appalachian area (run away african slaves, Turkish, irish, and the Cherokee mostly) that settled in the mountains.

Hoodoo is an ancestral based spirituality. If you are not Ethnically African American you don’t have access to it. It’s not a religion where a deity or deities govern it and they choose you. It’s a bloodline lineage based practice.

If your practice is closed to only certain races of people than in essence your religion is weak and when your race and people are gone your religion and your gods will go with them and be equally dead. Because actual religion and actual Gods are universal and the Gods appear all over the world in various forms, names and races. Honestly you worship your race not the immortal gods and the beings you venerate are just Djinn or race and nature spirits at best not the actual Gods. None the less for a "closed tradition" hoodoo pulls from many sources. Even the so called Voodoo dolls we see come not from African magic traditions but European Poppets.
