I love how segregated Houston is community wise... like you’ll have a hood on one side n u drive a good 2 or 3 miles down n you’ll be in a completely different area that is definitely not a hood😂.

U r definitely wrong. It's the same hood. It's called hoods inside of hoods. Still 1 hood but subhoods

Shantee Mayfield really? I’m “definitely” wrong? Lol I live in the Braeburn/W. Bellfort area if I drive 2 miles outside of my neighborhood sure I see the “ghetto” on Braeswood and Gessner, but at the same time my neighborhood and the neighborhood across from mine on W. Bellfort aren’t exactly “hoods” or “ghettos”. On the contrary, my community is actually improving there’s neighborhood remodeling going on, and my property values are going up each year buddy. I don’t see how a “hood” or “ghetto” would cost me 5-7 grand in property tax each year, just saying... And 2 miles down like I said on the Braeswood/Gessner area I have friends who live there who do admit it’s not the friendliest of areas, but it’s not horrible either.

I'm from the Nawfeast. Houston is the city of independent hustle. We have entrepreneurs in every corner. Some (brown) who sell tamales, which are some of the best tamales you could eat. Others (black) who sell bbq of the side of the road and that bbq is like no other, delicious. This hustle is what makes H-town what it is. Most of the low income neighborhoods are made up of hardworking people who are trying to make it. Now, let's talk about the dark side of some of these neighborhoods. I grew up behind Hopper Rd and drive by's, walk by's were a common thing. I understood quick to mind my own business and if you ain't about that life don't act like you are and try to fake it till you make it, because you won't. #truth #knowimsaying #stayhumble

Inwood is the one I'm most familiar with. When I first moved to Houston, I was in that area for about 2 years before my family and I moved away due to the crimes that occurred near the house I lived in. That and me being jumped one day walking home from school which could have put me in a wheelchair or worse, my life could have ended. That incident accelerated our plans to move out. Now I live in a much safer area near Katy where I have lived ever since.

I used to live at Antione and Little York. For the record, I am a fat, bald white guy with a beard. Honestly, never really had much issue there, but I was openly discriminated against on multiple occassions. I went into a Little Ceasars to get a hot and ready. They told me they didn't have any ready and I would have to wait. Needless to say, after about 20 minutes and a dozen or so people went in and got multiple pizzas, I started to read between the lines. All black crew and all black customers.... but I also lived on Westheimer and Wilcrest, and the apartments I lived in were WAY worse than Little York and Antione...

That statement is sooooo true!!! Being 43, growing up half of every childhood year on Belcrest & MLK.....a Block over from Beldart, which was shown in the Park.......it looked way different & sounded way diff.....especially at night, lol. But we had our house built there before it turned into the "hood". Don't care how much it changed over the years, NOTHING drove us out. Used to love seein everybody with their curb feelers comin down MLK back in the 80's. And I'm with you, familiar with them all &/or stayed in 80% shown, and NOT. Sorry to drag on, but your comment was the best by far!!!!

NGL this feels weird to say, but this comment section is really giving me that H-town culture feel. If you're from here you know what's good, if you ain't you just don't get it. Even the richer places like Cypress, Katy, Tomball, Kingwood, Fairfield, Bridgelands, Town Lakes and The Woodlands have a bit of that H-town spirit ( Even though it starts to feel like just cookie cutter suburbs with the typical white kids who think they're the shit after a while) IDK, I guess what I'm saying is that this comment section is making me feel proud to be an Houston, lowkey not what I would've expected to feel when I clicked on this video...

Houston is a democratic city, just has a republican step dad keeping them in step. Taxes are ridiculous out here and even though job opportunities are coming around, they are out in the burbs. Competition for those jobs is high, my company brings people in from out countries, very disappointed Hillary didn't win, now they can't so they are hiring locals now.

Max Coffin In the 70s and 80s, Alief and Sharpstown were mostly middle-class suburbs of Houston until all the apartments there began to deteriorate in the late 80s. The middle-class residents left to other suburbs in the 90s and lower-income people replaced the original residents since then. Not all of Houston's 'hoods' were always 'hoods' in the first place.
