I love how almost every house has a grill in the yard, they throw down on the pit. I used to buy blunts from 5th Ward when I was in high school, 3 for $10 all day lol. It was sketchy sometimes, but people were generally chill and kept to themselves. I never had any issues with anyone except a couple crackheads, but they were easy to shoo away. RIP 4th Ward aka Freedmen's Town now known as Midtown after it was gentrified. It was the first neighborhood in Houston that Blacks lived in after the slaves were freed. Back in the days the 4 looked like haunted houses from a horror movie, it was dilapidated asf...bandos with dopefiends and d boys everywhere. And I can't forget Allen Parkway Village - APV was raw. 4th Ward used to always beef with 5th Ward.
@cristinaherrera532110 ай бұрын
In the 80's, my mother would take us to what we referred to as "The Sandbox". It was this park off Allen Parkway. One afternoon, my friend Amy and I were running around playing when we had to pee. As we squatted in what we thought was a secure area, this group of black girls spotted us and began to make their way over to where we were. I can only describe it as the stairs in the water and a caged walkway over Allen Parkway. I grabbed Amy and ran. We were too far from my mother so we ducked and hid until we made our way to that caged walkway. I had Amy run with me over into that housing area. We continued to duck, run, hide. At on point we rounded a house and ran into a drunk black man. We made him jump, two little white girls running in his 'hood'. He even said, "Oh my God, you made me jump"! He then took notice that we were running from a group of angry black girls and then aided in our escape. I was about 11 and Amy was 8. Good times. That was a "wholesome" story compared to others that I have.

I grew up in Greenspoint a.k.a. 'Gunspoint' - 70's thru 90's. City Under Siege was based on my neighbourhood. Crackheads burned down the daycare my brothers and I attended just three blocks from my house. They also burned down the playground at my elementary school a few blocks away. By junior high (80's), there was a cop shop installed across the street from Stovall Jr High due to the amount of gang fights and such. Kids were bringing guns and other forms of weapons to school for their safety. I was involved in one such 'gang' fight. Those cops were worthless. They would simply stand in the door and watch the violence. The convenience store began to lock the doors after every 5 people in the store. My eldest brother and his friends were constantly jumped and their shoes and jackets and everything else ripped off of them. These were not "people", they were pure animals. Not human. So much violence. My girlfriends and I could no longer walk to the stores in safety. We were constantly pursued and chased with rape as the intent. These were people from the 5th ward that essentially spray-painted "Lil Fifth Ward" and "Greenspoint Posse" every where. I have said the exact thing you stated. I concur.
