That's a little misleading. The NY apartment is actually 6k per month ($1500.00 is only his share). I would love to see what a real $1500.00 apartment in NYC looks like...oh wait...there isn't one.

So... Nobody else is going to point out that the NYC apt is actually 6000/month for a 4-bedroom? Just because you can say it's split 1500/month per person doesn't make that apartment a viable comparison to a 1500/month 1-bedroom in Houston.

The comparison was what you get for $1500/month. In NYC it means you get roommates.

Exactly, but at least it would be an accurate comparison of what $6000 can get you in one city compared to another. Not this "$1000 can get you this in one city, but $1000 (+3 other friends paying that much) can get you THIS! It's a straight comparison!"

Tone Combs I lived in a $12 thousand (a month) apartment in NYC for 6 years and it’s not that bad, I feel like people just need to go to NYC to grow opportunity when their careers are on an exponential slope, not the start of them but 10 years in for example. The apartment was 19N at the Corinthian in Manhattan and it was decent, had a view of the Hudson across the entirety except for a little part blocked by another skyscraper (far away); I even saw the CocaCola red sign across the river (I think that was in Queens). Apartment had 3 bathrooms with 2 rooms, one small extra room (big enough for a good sized living room, a SMALL kitchen but out of the way, a wide hall way, and a huge living and dining room combined which is where the oval glass view of the river was. Most young people think the top location is NYC and sure, urbanization of a population is good but NYC is an example where it starts to get too congested. People need to move evenly through cities which control prices and living conditions, helping the economy and themselves. But that won’t happen anytime soon.

He did say he lives on the upper east side (UES). $1500 for a shared bedroom is a steal. Studios start at $2500. Single bedrooms are $3200. So yeah....it's a steal. 1. Living on the UES isn't cheap 2. You have to be making well north of 6 figures (200k-300k) to live well on the UES 3. Living in Manhattan is not for wealth building unless #2 applies to you or living in Manhattan is required for work (finance sector). Even if a job pays you 2x more in Manhattan than Houston, you will pay 2-3x more for everything (groceries, transportation, restaurants, drinks, rent). Name it - it will cost more. Own a car and want to garage it? $600/month. Going out with friends to drink? $100 minimum. This city is not for the faint of heart or light of wallet. - UES New Yorker

In 2009-2013 I shared studio apartments in SF with my best friend and then my bf for around 1450 a month, and we actually thought THAT was highway robbery. The rents are astronomical now, and I know damn well people aren't magically making 2x their wages in 5 years, so obviously people can't pay that and have to go somewhere else. I moved to Utah and over the course of 4 years downtown apartments have risen to nearly the same damn amount as we were paying in SF back then. We looked into moving somewhere else but every city with a booming job market is the same story. So I accepted a job offer in SF and we're moving back to the bay area trying to find the most affordable neighborhood. I'd love to go were rent is $700 but there aren't any jobs for me in those places.

The guy in the NYC apartment is getting swindled . “You can’t find big bedrooms in nyc” is a huge lie. It’s just that people are killing themselves over wanting to live literally in the middle of Manhattan, when they could be paying the same in the outer boroughs for an actual apartment with a decent sized bedroom and kitchen and living room. Taking the train for 30 minutes is not a big deal. He could be saving thousands. It’s not super rare to have washer and dryer in your apartment. It feels like deep down he knows that his living situation is unnecessary and overpriced, and spends the video trying to make up for it by using “but it’s nyc”.... like no... it’s the upper west side.

The nightlife, restaurant scene, events and museums are incomparable. What I miss most are the long walks - from Wall St to Harlem. Houston is one strip mall after another and very few places where people walk around.

Museums aren't just places where you go once, come back and is the same 5 years later. Most museums have different exhibits which attract the same people coming back every few months. If museums were stagnant, why would be people pay so much money for a membership. Then you have museums like the Cloisters which is like a sanctuary within a large city. As I mentioned, if you're young, NYC is a better place because how many young people can't afford these Houston "top chef" restaurants ? Yes, there are great inexpensive restaurants in Houston but they are spread out. If you want to bar hop, hit a bunch of different eateries, and then hit a club without driving here and there, NYC has Houston beat by far.

For the money, Houston is better, but keep in mind New York City has four times the population in a geographic area half the size of Houston. For $1500 a month in my town in Alabama, I could buy a 4br/3ba house on a half acre lot. Then again, there are more people just in the boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens than in my entire state...it's all about demand.

I happen to live in a town with more rocket scientists per capita than anywhere else in the country. Not all Alabamians are inbred country bumpkins, just like not all sock puppets are pedophiles.

But with that much overcrowding and high prices you have to start to wonder is it even worth it anymore? It’s definitely not for everyone.

Melly J What’s so great about NYC? The horrific traffic? Chronically late subways? Sidewalks you can barely walk down without slamming into people? The only good thing you can say about it is they have nice restaurants.

I work in the apartment industry in Houston and this is exactly the reason why it’s so easy for me to “sell” the community with all the amenities to anyone that comes from up north! Houston has NY beat by a landslide!

SayItLOUD ! That is not true at all, I’ve lived at nyc and Houston, it takes forever to get to one place to the other in nyc, it’s even faster to just walk, but at Houston there is traffic but it’s a lot faster than walking

@@novalune444 almost any city. Houston for example.. search www.har.com to look at homes for sale. Its not always the bedroom and bathroom count. Its the sq footage, and many homes will come with an office, and/or gameroom. For $1500 mortage, you can easily get 2,000 sq ft house, 2 car garage, and a community club house and pool.
