Thanks for making this piece. I lived out in the Driftless for two years and it was easily the best two years of trout fishing I have ever had. I always found that I consistently caught the biggest browns in Iowa. Maybe it was because of less pressure or the fact that so many of the really good creeks connect to the Iowa River. I was shocked that you did not catch more when the water was dirty with streamers. That was always my preferred condition and would always fish streamers and big nymphs. You should definitely consider another trip out there but go in October. Make sure you bring cameras with polarized lenses. Trust me on this.

You guys should have came up to Sota while you were here. Same fish but a lot more options. Problem is with all the agriculture as you found out streams get dirty in a hurry with a modest amount of rain. Loved the video. About time someone has one of a guy chucking stick baits. No better way to catch big driftless browns.

Hey joe you should do a fly tying series... especially with those streamers, that little shad one you were using looked awesome!

SWEET! I live for northeast iowa! We have a cabin up there and the scenery is drop dead gorgeous. The trout are kick butt and the Mississippi river is chuck full of everything. Two years back my dad caught a 22 inch 5lb wild brown in a small hole in the middle of a cow pasture. (he caught it on a small crawfish crankbait with an ultralight even though it rejected my spinners and jigs for half an hour) I however caught some nice stock rainbows and a wild tiger trout. ( brook/rainbow) Its literally heavan on earth, even though we fish farther northeast of decorah by waterloo creek and wexford. Hope you go back farther north and slay some stocky trout on some wacked up lures.

I've met Dave and his dog a few times on the Iowa streams. Just figured he was a bat shit crazy local. Couldn't believe it when I started watching this episode and saw who you were fishing with. Pretty sure my son and I were in the area during this shoot. Stuck a 20+ on Coldwater, but spent most of our time on French. Yellow streamers were the ticket for me.

Dave is one crazy dude! Bat shit crazy in the sense that who in their right mind throws 6" jerk baits on small driftless creeks? The guy who has it all figured out, that's who! If you want a 28" brown you got to toss the goods!
