I also have Okuma Rockaway 10 ‘ and yes the rod but is uncomfortable. So when cutting I would use my saw sol with metal blade instead of super glue I would use a caulking loc tight adhesive

Another very good video... Also want to let you know that my order for the perch bag and one jerkbait lure arrived yesterday and that was very fast only 2 day since I placed my order .... That bag is a top notch and well design and made and it looks much better than high-end SIMM bag.... Thanks for quick turn around sending my order....

I'm glad I bought one of these. On my first outing with it I landed 2 massive yellow croakers, 1 15" and 1 20", caught a few smaller croakers and even a perch but tossed then back since they were small. I love the Rockway SP rod, for reference I got mine in a 9 footer. Didn't know they had 10' and 11' before but 9' works best for me since I'm like 5'7 and vertically challenged.

One thing that I always thought when I first started surf fishing that turned out to be wrong was having the best surf fishing Sesh's ONLY on the highest tides. Had some pretty crazy bites on some of the lowest tides

One thing I thought was using a fresh water reel was fine as long as you rinsed it off. WRONG! Junked some good reels. Invest in a decent saltwater “dunk” rated reel.

That’s a good one for sure! At the same time, that was your gateway to the sport. The beauty with surf fishing is you don’t need much to get started at all. If you don’t get into it, great, you didn’t break the bank.

This worked like a charm thanks bro! Oh by the way I used a dremel with a cutoff wheel and instead of glue I wrapped it with a layer of electrical tape and the butt cap stuck on permanently

Totally doing this mod. I bought this rod and its butt is definitely too long. Good rod other than that. I know you talked about hacking it but I was waiting to see if you’d do it. Also, the blue sailors are thick at MB this week too.

Edward, I am thinking of doing the same to my Okuma Rockaway rod. thanks for the link to a new rod butt cap! One thing I have certainly learned since I started perch fishing, the perch are not always 100 yards out, a lot of the time, the perch are at your feet! Thanks for the great show brudder!

The Phenix Trifecta light would be perfect without cutting
@Hook2Cook
@Hook2Cook 2 ай бұрын
But the Trifecta light maxes out at 3/4 oz. If you fish stronger beaches that won’t cut it Carolina rigging.

I’ve been wanting to do this to my Rockaway, I’m glad you did it first. I think I’ll use Goop or PVC epoxy instead of super glue though. A little more working time. Cool video

Great vid! One tip from a longtime rodbuilder - wrap your proposed cut area with painter's tape first and use a fine-tooth saw. This will reduce the amount of splintering the blank might experience. Would suck if a hairline fracture were introduced that went up to the reelseat - then that explodes on a good fish.
@Hook2Cook

Yea agreed. Others suggested a fine dremel

Dude I give you credit, your brave for cutting your pole 😂 I used to think you always have to cast far past the breaks but learned they're feeding off of sand crabs which are closer to shore so no need to always cast far 🤙🏽

A cheap high speed saw would very cleanly cut your rods. I like two part epoxy paste for gluing on my rods. It sets more slowly and also lubricates so you can avoid both problems you experienced on your first attempt. I also buy from Mudhole as you did. Really enjoy your videos and recently subscribed.

I’ve been throwing the xls weighted hooks with the 5” battlestar ribbed swim baits on the rockaway sp recently. Like your doing with yours I’ve also made that rod my CR and weedless Texas rig rod. And my Hawaiian custom has been my go to for the jerkbait. I spent some time researching before I got anything but I’m still learning. Would be awesome to go fishing with you sometime and learn more! I’m in slo👍

I make my own rods, and always use Flex-Coat to affix my butt cap and (hypalon foregrip etc). It makes the butt cap or foregrip slide on more easily and since it takes a couple hrs to cure, you have plenty of time to get it in just the right position. It is two part and comes in two bottles so it lasts for years, and it's always good to have around to replace guides etc even if you don't make your own rods. I think you can get it on either MudHole or Angler's Workshop. I love your content: I was born and raised in Santa Maria, but live in Ventura County now and go fishing pretty much every week.
