As always enjoyed the video John I used to fish round York years ago must say I can't ever remember having many good days if any while the trent was fishing its balls off so it hasn't altered much by them results

True Reg, it's hit or miss, bream bingo on the Ouse, you've got to fish for them because it's nearly always won with them but if you're not on them, well it makes it a long day🫤

Great video john, would a longer tail give a better bite registration.
@HOOKEDFishingChannel2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Anthony. No a longer tail would give them more freedom to move with the bait without registering on the tip, less of an issue on the rivers than lakes as the flow takes it downstream so keeps a straight line to the feeder but if they pick the bait up, they can swim around with it further off bottom if you follow me. Long tails are usually used in clearer conditions to avoid spooking fish with the feeder. Short tails register bites faster and as the water was colouring up, seems the logical choice to try and spot finicky roach bites.

its like going back to 1985 when i was in my matchfishing prime... grinding out 2.2lb of silvers using an Au'lion'dor size 26, single squat with 12oz bayer... that motorway noise...punishment... anyway keep em coming.. .. ..
@HOOKEDFishingChannel2 жыл бұрын
That's the Ouse for you, one day it's bream heaven, the next you can't buy a bite. The road is way worse in person, so very very noisy, you can barely hear the shout for time.

Question when and why would you use a dead maggot over a live one
@HOOKEDFishingChannel2 жыл бұрын
Good question and here's my answer. On rivers I don't think it matters really (the fish aren't wise to live vs dead bait like heavily pressured commercial carp can be) but a dead maggot is less likely to fold over the hookpoint, once I go for a bunch of 3 or 4 I'd be tempted to use deads, if I want more attraction, I'd use lives. I also use deads when making up balls of groundbait, it means I can form them in advance of the start and not have them break up so I can lace them with maggot on roach venues that respond to this kind of approach, the Calder, Hull and Aire all spring to mind. Hope this helps.
