Another great video John, thank you! Suspect that pike you had might go over 20 a bit later in the season as she had a good frame on her, and especially if the roach and bream shoals continue to hang around!
@HOOKEDFishingChannel4 жыл бұрын
There's better in there already for sure. I know of a 20+ this season, different stretch but shows the potential. The fishing has slowed off a bit since the 1st frosts hit so I've yet to go back since that session but there may be another visit or two before the end of the season. Lots of other places to try. I prefer rivers but they're rarely in good condition for pike at this time of year.

Nice one, cracking catch there! I made a rare trip down to Selby canal looking for some clear water but looks like I should have kept going south!
@HOOKEDFishingChannel4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ewan, the A&C has been throwing some good fish up. I know of a 20 coming out and lots of low to mid doubles. Not just Pollington but plenty of other areas too. I think the Selby has a lot of smaller fish but have seen some reasonable ones. The Aire is a river I've yet to explore but it seems to be producing some excellent fish of all species, certainly one to target in future.
@riverfossfishing4 жыл бұрын
@@HOOKEDFishingChannel you certainly seem to be into a few down there! I'm keen to get out whip fishing for roach so might check it out. Looking to get my Leeds book when they come available so will be exploring a bit more in that direction soon hopefully.
@stephenbell88154 жыл бұрын
Ewan, other books cover the A&C canal too like the York book which you might already have if you've fished Selby. A&C canal has a joint committee of clubs covering 11 miles.

@HOOKEDFishingChannel4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ian, it's the original Korum accessory chair they did 3 versions, light standard (mine) and deluxe with a high back. They don't make them anymore and the new ones are nowhere near as strong (Korum X25) there's a link to one here so you know what to look for but you'll probably have to search eBay for a second hand one images.app.goo.gl/JiCLC516VKefLR4y6

As far as I know there's no Zander this far North but I have caught them on the Trent which is about 85 miles South for me.

Morning John what peg do you fish watched both your pike videos and went down with the wife yesterday evening and it's lovely. Do you go in from the left and park at the bridge where you park on the grass too the left and walk past the lock or do you get on from the right? if so how do I get too that bit. My canal & water key didn't work neither Excellent videos also love them pike

John I sorry to criticise, mate can you get a unhooking mate that covers the fish and you can cover to stop it flapping around and possibly becoming injured , you then carried the pike over to the water. A decent mat would enable the fish to be carried in it to the water.
@richardbeadle39454 жыл бұрын
Might want to get yourself a decent sling as well it was nearly folded in half in that thing

Lovely winter's day, great spot to fish. John, what chair was that please?
@HOOKEDFishingChannel4 жыл бұрын
Hi Steven, it's the original Korum chair, they're much stronger than the ones that replaced them which are the x25. I have long legs fitted to mine.

That’s a cracking canal pike John! Loving your videos mate. Quick question, at this time of year, when you fish the pole for silvers, do you fish over the nearside shelf in the deeper water or actually on the shelf in the shallower water? Cheers
@HOOKEDFishingChannel4 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael I’m fishing the whip in the shallower water but it’s still about 8ft deep. 11m is probably the best line on the A&C for silvers and it’s about 10ft there, the bigger roach tend to be out there, but obviously when I’m piking I don’t want to be stuck with 11m of pole in hand. Hope this helps.

Is it possible to buy a day ticket on this stretch? By which association it is managed ? Thank you !
@HOOKEDFishingChannel3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can fish it on day ticket, £6 on the bank, £3 in advance. Its run by BACJCC - details on website here: bacjcc-canalfishing.co.uk/ You can also fish it on pretty much any book, e.g. Leeds LDASA, Doncaster DDAA, York YDAA etc

🤣, nice 1 Tony, thought I looked like I was croc wrestling, it was either him or Steve Irwin. Just a safer bet to straddle the fish, it was a bit lively and it's usually the hooks that end up getting you when they flip out but despite her trying, I got away with all my fingers intact.
@jigbros3522 жыл бұрын
I fished there today but on other side near bridge and struggled had two pick up only one progresses but lost it to hook pull is there any trick with this venue as it was really slow had 3 dead bait rods out different distance and depth and only managed to runs all day
@HOOKEDFishingChannel2 жыл бұрын
I just find the bait fish, sometimes drawing then into the swim by fishing for them or feeding a few pinkies in just over the nearside shelf helps, then the pike follow. Keep your eye out for the match results and fish where the big catches come from, the pike will never be far behind. Tight lines 🎣

jamie needs some proper outdoor footwear...and clothing he didnt look very warm to me.. piking is not my thing but a cracking fish nonetheless..... mad when ya think thats just sitting there next to ya silver shoal when ya match fishing.... u shud try spinning with those smaller lures for BIG perch that looks a great venue fot it.... nice one
@HOOKEDFishingChannel4 жыл бұрын
Jamie is too tight to buy fishing clothes, he's a Lancastrian which is like a Yorkshireman with even deeper pockets and shorter arms 🤣. I tried lure fishing previously without success. There are always lots of lure anglers and drop shotters down there, I've yet to see or hear of anybody catch anything on them. You're right there are some big perch though. As for match fishing and the pike, it's no wonder the bites go iffy at times when those beasts are on the hunt. Thanks for watching, appreciate it's not your thing.

Good pike and tactics, only one thing I don't like is when you try to turn their faces inside out with such aggressive hands up the gill cover ... NO NEED STOP IT
