Күн бұрын

This week I return to the River Swale at Asenby to exact my revenge on the barbel after getting smashed off on the opening day of the season, I head out for a late afternoon/evening session in what turns out to be rather changeable weather conditions.
After extracting an early evening chub, a couple of hours later the temperature cooled, the light levels reduced and the barbel started to make their way up the river on the hunt for food, giving themselves away as they rolled in the swim. When that happens, it's usually only a matter of time before the inevitable 3ft twitch!
Enjoy!

Your intro had me spit me cuppa all over my kitchen bench. Your into says "welcome to another episode of *ucked" 🤣🤣🤦. I've replayed it numerous times. Normally not this childish but this had me in hysterics for like 20 solid mins. Great vid though fella. 👍

No problem Mike, and yes travelling any distance to fish is tiring and expensive these days, just got back from the Trent match fishing on Saturday and it cost me £45 in diesel, plus bait plus pools, so around £80 for a club match excluding food. The winner got £78 but didn't have as far to travel as me.

Nice barbel and well caught not sure I agree with fish being messed about so much during bad conditions for them , you even commented how warm it was to touch, personally I’d be where there’s more flow and I certainly wouldn’t be weighing fish that are not special fish which none of them were

@@HOOKEDFishingChannel Well hope your mission to catch more barbel from the Yorkshire Rivers is a success. Which river would you say in the north of England is probably the hardest to catch a barbel from in your opinion? at the moment my old man would probably say all of them🤣🤣
@HOOKEDFishingChannel
@HOOKEDFishingChannel 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks John. The hardest river? That's a tough one but the one I struggled with most in the past is the Ouse, just need to time it right in the well known spots. I've hooked some monsters on double boilie and lost them to snags even gearing up onto the carp rods. I'm setting my sights on just getting a fish out of each river I visit at the moment, I'll worry about size later in the season. I typically fish the Nidd, Wharfe, Swale, Derwent, Ouse and sometimes the Ure for barbel, if I manage one from each of those and I have time over the summer evenings I may then try my hand at the Aire and then the Calder but I've never fished those for barbel.

@@HOOKEDFishingChannel The Ouse !?… my Old Man is going there tomorrow and one of my friends was there on Sunday evening and he had 2 bream & 2 barbel out put blanked on previous trips so like you say it’s just finding them and getting the timing right and like you do putting the time and Hours in … I haven’t done that style of Fishing for a few years now. I’ve got this ultralight lure fishing thing going on at the moment I’m trying to catch my first 3 pound perch !! I’ve been close a few times. Even catching the little stripeys is great fun and also encounter some nice chub along the way and obviously Mr Pike always shows his face up . One day I will get back onto doing barbel fishing and I’ve had some really nice ones in the past. Watching your video certainly does get me thinking though…. One day. All the best buddy and look forward to your next vid 👍🏽😀🎣

@HOOKEDFishingChannel
@HOOKEDFishingChannel 2 жыл бұрын
Hi John, I don't lose interest, that canal was just soul destroying this year if you didn't draw on bream. It's been the same for the 'Happy League' on there with ounces at best being caught in hard areas - glad I didn't sign up for that one and I'm enjoying a few relaxed pleasure sessions - I dont expect to catch a barbel when I go, but if you do, it's a bonus. Don't need much gear or prep, unlike canal match fishing where I put a lot of effort in for very little reward. As for Fiskerton, its a bit far for me to get to for an evening sesh - 90 miles each way, just been to Caythorpe at the weekend fishing a match, no barbel in that daytime heat but plenty of roach.

Cracking looking swim John and well done on the barbel.The thames is still like a lake and fishing terrible. Might have to join another club that has a stretch with a weir pool because I think thats where the majority of the fish are enjoying the extra oxygen. Did I see you were fishing with a back lead ? . Its something I,ve done a lot of fishing smaller rivers. Let me know in a comment because I might be able to show you what we ended up using and it caught me a lot of fish on the kennet,loddon and hants avon.
@HOOKEDFishingChannel
@HOOKEDFishingChannel 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Neil, it is a real beauty of a swim, I could keep going back but I like to move on to keep me challenged and the venues varied - I might return there later in the year but I've got at least another 3 rivers I want a Yorkshire barbel out of first, (I've ticked 3 off already 😉). I wasn't using a backlead, I haven't really found a problem with barbel spooking off the line if I keep it out of the water and use a long hooklength but if it puts more fish on the bank it's certainly something I'd consider using. You can get in touch with me on facebook or go to the about page on the channel to get the email address - I don't post contact details directly in comments due to the spammers.

No problem John... there's another John Murray that looks like me..doppelganger 😄. The Weir can be hit or miss as with most of the Ouse but I haven't ever fished it enough to work out when is the best time with the tides...it comes up scarily fast when it backs up though you can fish off the floating pontoon it's slightly unnerving.

“Revenge is mine” sayeth the Murray! Beautiful barbel and lovely chub (I’d have been happy with that chub). It must have been frustrating watching the taps and not getting the big pull round. Do you think that 4+pounder was as big as the one you lost on your last visit? Keep them tight!👍
@HOOKEDFishingChannel
@HOOKEDFishingChannel 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian, it's not really frustrating watching taps, you kind of expect it barbelling, it's a good sign and raises the anticipation. The fish that did me was without doubt a high single or low double, there's some very big fish in that stretch but also lots of school fish 4-6lb
