Hi Ms Tiffany, wanted to know if these would look good using blanket yarn? I know it’s a thick yarn but I’m trying to do a unique style blanket for my niece and think she’d really appreciate this square. Or maybe 5 would work better?

For the newbies. Each row the stitch increases by four. You might find that bit of information helpful. By round 4 you should have 12 double crochets across. Round 5 you should have 16 and so on.

how much yarn would a person need if they were doing this but wants to do 3 colors of squares to make a throw blanket?
@CrochetWithTiffany Жыл бұрын
That is a great question! How I would figure this out for the most accurate answer would be to make one square. Measure how wide and how long it is. Then take it apart and measure how much yarn was in the one square. Convert inches to yards (if you need help you can just insert this into google for a quick answer). That is how many yards you will need for just the one square and it's dimensions. Now figure out how wide and how long you will want your blanket to be. How many squares can fit widthwise and how many square can fit lengthwise. If you need help visualizing, use grid paper. Now how many squares do you need to fill in the whole blanket? Divide this number by 3 for your 3 colors. Take that answer and multiply it by how many yards were in the one square. Now you know approximately how much yarn you will need to make all the squares you will need for your blanket. Don't forget to account for the amount of yarn you will need for joining the squares together and if you would like to make a border around your blanket to clean up the sides. There is no real way of knowing how much yarn you will need for the joining and border so I would error on buying an extra skein or two just in case. 😊❤️🧶

Ok so I have a problem making this pattern… in all of my rounds, after I do the chain 3 and DC on top of next stitch there’s a larger gap between those two than the other DCs. I am using a thinner yarn but I don’t see why that would be a problem. The chain 3 just doesn’t connect close enough to the next DC so it makes a big hole. Ever had this problem?
@CrochetWithTiffany10 ай бұрын
No worries. Sometimes this happens. In such a case go ahead and only chain 2 instead of chaining 3. It wont hurt anything and it should shrink that gap you are talking about. Hope this helps! 😊❤️🧶

Hi I am following this tutorial and mine is warping and I’ve followed it exactly and the stitches are counting properly
@CrochetWithTiffany Жыл бұрын
Hmm, the warping might be a sign of how tight your stitches are. This is super common. There are a couple different things you can try to adjust this. You can try working with a crochet hook that is a little bigger to loosen up your stitches, or you can also try working with a thinner yarn. Give that a try. 😊❤️🧶

I'm saving this for when I feel I might be ready. I've also not done anything in the round yet, so that's my biggest unknown. I'm fine with double crochet, I'm currently practicing those. Thanks!
@dupa686811 ай бұрын
This video is absolutely helpful❤❤ but as a beginner here I do have few doubt :/ 1. How do you do the slip stich to close each rounds, how do you know which stich to put the hook through to close the round? 2. How do you change the last row into a new color? 3. Can I make a tote bag with these granny squares? I am sorry if my questions sounds dumb, I am a newbie and really need some help with the basics 😢
@CrochetWithTiffany11 ай бұрын
Hi there. Your questions are absolutely not dumb, they are great questions! I'm so glad you asked them because they tell me where you are coming from. Your questions such as the slip stitch, where to place your crochet hook and color changes can all be found in crochet basics. Is the stitch count suppose to be uneven after the row that needed the next dc to close round 3? It makes the square look uneven as it get larger

Hi Jada, The beginning chain of each round will count as your first stitch. There should be a divisible number of 4 for all of the sides. When this happens to me I back up until I find the round that I was on track and on count with and then try to move forward again. I hope this helps!

@krystle7260 Жыл бұрын
I love the simplicity of this square and it is a great beginner square. If you want a more seamless close of the round you join with a half double crochet (hdc) to the beginning chain or stitch. I do a stacked single crochet (sc) instead of a chain. The hdc counts as a chain 2 and allows you to always start in the corner with a chain 2 (or stacked sc) and 1 double crochet (dc) then you finish the round with 2 dc joining with a hdc. Works the same if you only chain 1 in the corners. You just join with a sc to count as your chain 1 at the end.

Well, that's a little spooky. I'm literally right in the middle of doing a solid granny square right now! 😂 The only minor differences are that the pattern I'm using starts off with a magic ring,, used 3DC instead of 4DC per cluster on round one and slip stitches into the corner chain space to start the next round - but otherwise, it is identical.

I have a question, so in the video (row 2) after working the corner space, we DC into that opening directly following the chain 2 space, and then DC three more times, and do not DC the the opening directly before the chain 2 space? I'm a little confused on that part. I slowed down the video and still need a little guidance. I hope my question makes sense! I keep crocheting both openings or none at all and it messes me up every time. Thank you for your time :)

Is it possible to make this with thicker yarn? Would it look different or off due to it being bigger/thicker yarn? I’m sorry if this is a silly question, I’m fairly new at this 😅
@CrochetWithTiffany2 ай бұрын
Hi there! YES! You can work this pattern with a thicker yarn. You will notice that the project itself will be thicker. You will want to adjust the crochet hook size you are using to match the size yarn you are using. This will help a lot to make sure that the project lays flat and works the way you want it to. 🤗💖🧶

Did I do something wrong...any time I came to the end of a row or round, that last side that I slip-stitched into always had one extra DC. So I ended up just taking out one for that last row so all 4 sides are even. But am I missing something?
@CrochetWithTiffany10 ай бұрын
Hmm, I'm not really sure. So hard when I can't see what you're looking at. I think the most helpful tip I could give here is just to make sure you are staying on count for each round. As long as you are staying on count and your corners are worked how I show you should be fine. It took me until I got to round 4 or 5 for the pattern to really take shape AND I also blocked my square for those crisp sides. All things to keep in mind as you are working up your square if it is not looking perfect right away. 😊❤️🧶

How do you end the square?
@CrochetWithTiffany Жыл бұрын
Great question Faye. You can end the square at whatever round works for you. Just tie off the square when you close the round. 😊❤️🧶
@AMaupin2 Жыл бұрын
So, if you do a magic ring, instead of the chain 4, you'd still chain 3 before starting your double crochet stitches into the ring--right? I always end up with a giant center hole that I can't really close when I do a chain instead of a magic ring.

Great question. Yes, if you chain 4, you will then slip stitch into the first chain to form that center ring. After you form the center ring THEN chain 3 to start your round 1. 😊🧶❤️

I love this stitch but I think you’re going too fast and don’t explain the corners enough after the second row, I had to pull everything apart and rewatch 4 different times to get it right
@CrochetWithTiffany2 жыл бұрын
I’m sorry about that. If I ever go to fast for you feel free to slow down my video. You actually have control over how fast or slow my video goes by clicking on the setting button which will either look like a little gear ⚙️ or it will be the 3 dots in the upper right hand corner. Bush playback speed and adjust. Hope that helps. 😊❤️🧶

Somehow after the first few rounds mine was a circle, not a square. Looks cool, but I don’t know what I did wrong.
@CrochetWithTiffany Жыл бұрын
Great observation. Keep going. towards the beginning the corner spaces are trying to take shape but won't be super defined as a square unless you block it. If you continue on you should start to see that very defined look after round 6. To help give you some piece of mind, I did block this square before taking the picture so you could see the details more distinctly. If you are following everything just as I explain it, you should be good. Trust the process and keep moving forward. You got this! 😊🧶❤️

I would recommend slowing down a LOT because I've had to run it back so much I've lost count and by the time you're finishing your fourth DC I'm still trying to find the correct placement of my first one.

I really liked this Granny Square! I bought some yarn that’s a 3 weight the other day, I usually always use the 4 weight. I can’t take it back because I couldn’t find my receipt! And to it was on sale so they probably wouldn’t have taken it back anyway. But I’m using this yarn and I’ll make a lot of these squares and then sew them together and make a blanket! It will come in handy for me, or I could use it as a Christmas gift! Thank you so much Tiffany, I was wondering how I was going to use this yarn up! (The yarn I have is Lion Brand - Mandala in color #205AW-Echo Caves) Thanks again, NORMA COLLINS FROM TEXAS

My granny square's middle ring is too big, and I don't know how to close it a little. If anyone can help me, it would be much appreciated🫠
@CrochetWithTiffany4 ай бұрын
Great question! The best way to make a tighter center is to begin with a Magic Ring. This will allow you to synch the center closed. 😊❤️🧶

This is awesome, thank you! I am going to make dots, traditional granny squares and plain squares for the dogs and cats at our no kill shelter! Now this square, it looks gorgeous and will help add a change to the blankets.

Where would I put my stitch marker to know where the end of my row is. This way I know where to end my row.
@CrochetWithTiffany Жыл бұрын
Great question Sarah. Because we are working closed rounds you don't really need a stitch marker. You will be able to see where the row begins and ends based on the displacement of the height of stitch. If you would like to use a stitch marker I would place it in the corner we close the round in. 😊🧶❤️

I have been trying to crochet granny squares with no luck. but I've never thought have 4 dc instead of 3 might be something to try.
@AS-kh5mk Жыл бұрын
At the end of round 3 you worked 2 extra stitches in and then slipped stitches to close the round off. Can someone please help me…will this increase every round you do? So round 4 you would work 4 extra stitches in and then slip stitch to close?
@CrochetWithTiffany Жыл бұрын
Hi A S. With this pattern, we work one stitch on top of every stitch, in each corner you work (2 stitches, chain 2, 2 stitches). If you follow the pattern, every single round I add 4 stitches per side. That means each round I will continue to add more stitches before I slip stitch the row closed. Getting the pattern will help tremendously! I have a diagram that helps you visually and the directions should help you to see the pattern. I highly recommend for the best experience with this project. 😊❤️🧶

Where would be the best place to put the stitch marker so I know where my row ends and I have one more double crochet in the corner
@CrochetWithTiffany Жыл бұрын
Hmm, If you are finding you have an extra double crochet in the corner I recommend counting the number of stitches you have in your row so you know when to stop. That would be most helpful and quickly give you the result you are looking for. 😊

That's nice. I've been working on a blankie for my granddaughter. 1 square is a solid color 8 waffle stitches X 8 waffle stitches, and next is same thing in multi color. Kinda like granny squares, but waffle stitches. Almost done, then it's her twin brother's blankie.
