its so nice to see an engine builder that knows how to use a torque wrench and does NOT drowned the pistons in oil. total seal says spray the piston and cylinder with wd-40.

I love this build technique. Figure out the engine you want, then just go break everything that isn't up to snuff. Easiest way to find out your weakest link.

This engine builder is really good, really clean job and overall really good at his craft. If I had one comment for improvement, well.. I should say, a comment that my old "engine building" teacher would give him, would be to mark each final torques one by one as you go, rather than in bulk at the end, because if you get pulled out of your job for any reasons, right in the middle of it, when you come back at your station you will have to start all over again just to be sure :)

Back in the 90's we all did that with our 70's Blazers/Jimmys/Broncos. Big blocks were still plenty and cheap as were late 70's 4x4s.

The ringing is also a quick way to check that a crank, or lots of other stuff, isn’t cracked. If it’s good it’ll ring like that. If it’s cracked it usually won’t ring when you tap it.

Stacy David and the other shows were my Saturday morning cartoons. I remember when he introduced the motor it was like he was dragging out a big mystery and then holy shit it’s the first production 572 big block crate motor from GM. It was ridiculous at the time.
