Despite being overshadowed by the likes of Luka Doncic and Trae Young, former #1 pick, Deandre Ayton, has been effective through his first two years in the league. After being suspended for 25 games at the genesis of the 19-20 season, Ayton came back and played better than ever.
During an 18 game stretch from 1-16 to 2-28, Ayton averaged 21.0 PPG 12.6 RPG 2.1 APG and 1.7 BPG on 56% from the field. His improvements as a shot-blocker and perimeter defender make him a true budding star.

@@janreldelacruz1674 Luka wasn't a phenom in Euro league. For his age, yeah but nothing overly special so no one could have predicted he would be a generational taken in the NBA. Also Luka is a terrible defender. ayton still has the potential to be an elite two way center. His defense is already on the up and up.

I feel like he is simply overlooked due to the depth of his draft class. Strong, mobile, makes the extra pass when needed, eats boards for breakfast, clearly showing improvements on defense, not afraid of contact, great post game, and he can stretch the defense out to the perimeter if need be. He can give you both P&R and P&P depending on your offense, and his stats are only rising. As someone else said, he will be a solid 20/10 player for years to come. This is everything you would want out of a modern center. He reminds me of a hybrid mix between Olajuwon and Robinson (although not quite there yet). He's also a very hard worker off of the court. He has a very good IQ and a great feel for the game. You can see it in the way he positions himself for rebounds/lobs and how he decides when he can shoot or step through double teams rather than pass.

Its because the media are looking for personalities and big names like Zion and Lebron for revenue that's why they aren't focusing on Ayton. I think its good for Ayton to stay low-key from the toxic media so he can just focus on his game

Ayton is a legitimate giant, and he plays like one as well. This season, he is averaging 19 points and 12 rebounds, numbers only a young shaq ever amassed at such a young age. BUT, deandre ayton is stuck on a team that may not be able to best maximize his talents. Ayton is a beast in the paint and from the mid-range, but the offense is very much based on devin booker's decisions from isolation sets, and that oftentimes results in a shot being put up. Now, The C’s can definitely use a big with the repertoire of Ayton in their lineup. Along side JT, JB, KW, definitely a championship caliber.. 🏆🏆🏆🔥🔥💍💍💍
