I’d just like to add a key point in the legendary beasts theory that no poke tuber has brought up yet. In Pokémon crystal, before your battle with suicune, you battle a trio of sages. All three have a Noctowl and one of the three original eevee-lutions. I believe that the noctowl is there to represent ho oh and the eevee-lution represents one of the beasts.

Seriously, play HeartGold/SoulSilver stand in place with the female character and tab the d-pad to look in different directions. The ribbon on her hat will stay at the same place in certain movements effectively "rotating" around her hat. It's no deal breaker by any means, it's only apparent in the rare situation I just described, but it's like Yoshi's orange arms in Super Mario World, as soon as you take notice it will be all you see for a while...

im thinking she got replaced simply because she was only playable in CRYSTAL version..... the remakes were for GOLD and SILVER....which if i remember correctly, you could ONLY play as a boy... there was no gender choice. SO technically we are lucky to have gotten a playable girl character in the remakes at all. i dont think theres much more to it than that. also: the eevveelutians being the original forms for the legendary dogs is a cool idea, but in that video clip of the newer anime's depiction of the tower burning, the pokemon who are supposed to represent the early forms dont look anything like the original eeveelutions.... they honestly looked more like deer or calf to me. that being said, if they are supposed to be beefed up eeveelutions, does that mean that HO-OH has the ability to create MORE legendary dogs from the other 5 eeveelutions??? some interesting stuff to think about for sure

@@sk8erboi101791 It is true that you could only play as a boy character in Gold and Silver, but that argument doesn't quite hold up. Crystal version onward, for all mainline games at least, allowed you to pick a boy or girl. Fire Red and Leaf Green, though remakes of the original games with no choice on player gender, still allowed you to choose. It's not a matter of if they would give you that choice, it's why they chose to go with particular female characters over others. It could be since they basically made a new female character for FR &LG they just decided to do the same. Or they just re-used old designs that didn't workout the first time. I think the plan was to have gender choice since Red and Green way back. Defenetly worth looking at beta stuff more in depth. Sorry, this is just something that I've been thinking about off and on for years. It is a fascinating idea on the eeveelutions being the legendary dogs. Though keeping them vague allows for all sorts of cool ideas. I like to think they were the beta designs for them that were then resurrected into their current forms. Though the whole significance of Eevee in the town though makes it a compelling argument though.

Heroic Squirrel Sinnoh is already huge and the biggest region in the Pokémon Series. Traveling a second region in the Diamond&Pearl Remake is completely unlikely although it would be the best thing ever. I could imagine that Game Freak is probably already struggling with just recreating Sinnoh in 3D with HD Textures. No way would GF in their current state (see the lack of content of USUM/LGPE/SWSH) put more work then necessary into a game.

I honestly think that Kris' hair being blue was part of why she was cut. With Crystal being the first game to show off colors, kris' hair being blue seemed like part of showing off that new color capability. Color is a lot more standardized in games by the time of the remakes, and Kris' blue might have looked clashing and out of place as a protagonist child character.

My theory is that the Unown are archetypes of a deeply-rooted language and code. Think of sigils and runes. They are symbols that can invoke certain powers and energies. String them together in the right way and you can summon different abilities. Also, like runes, they double as a language. Since they work so closely with Arceus, they likely manifest creation power and can function as a sort of genetic code. They string together like DNA and can manifest things. They have the potential to create and rework the fabric of reality, but only under the right circumstances. Thats what I think.

For the beast trio: I highly doubt it was the eeveelutions. A fire type and water type dying in a fire? Something about that that doesn’t click. Plus it’s said that they got the typing from ho oh to represent lightning fire and rain of the burning tower

I think the events of that day went a little like this.. The three eveelutions where in the tower when it caught on fire, due to the heat and smoke jolteon collapsed or fainted, vaporeon tried everything to put out the fire but just like in the real world sometimes water isnt enough and fainted under the heat, smoke and tiring itself out and flareon stayed with its friends/siblings to very end until it was taken out by the tower falling in on itself. Then ho oh came along and felt sorry for them and revived and juiced them up. I cant remember what the actual text said so I cant comment on that

The problem with the Eeveelution theory is that the three mystery Pokemon were supposed to be under protection, as they were incredibly rare/endangered. Eevee are anything but, especially in Ecruteak city. The silhouettes shown in the anime special also look nothing like any existing Pokemon, but they do resemble the beta art of the legendary beasts, just more plain. So its likely that Eevee's popularity in Ecruteak is actually because they and their evolutions resemble the beast trio and their transformations. People of the time likely connected the dots and they became viewed as a symbol, if not believed to have some sort of mystical blessing themselves.

Fires cause smoke and building collapse, they could still die in a fire, being crushed, suffocating, etc. Also a regular fire isn't some attack, they're still made of flesh. A water type can be hurt by fire the same way a grass type can still drown in a body of water The reason it's not eeveelutions is cause there's no reason to think it was any pokemon that has currently been revealed now. And the types they were revived as doesn't mean that's the type they originally were.

On the whole Chris/Lyra issue...to be fair, I never knew the first female trainer avatar had a proper name. I mean, you could either choose her name from a few selections or give her your own. Same with the rival. You meet him as ???. But you name him after you talk to a law enforcement official after an incident at Oak’s lab. I played the OG silver and crystal on GBC but I think my sibs played the at least one of the DS remakes and I geeked out over them! Granted not enough to see the finer details like the name/character changes between the two products.

my theory on why Kris was replaced with Lyra is probably because of Lyra's fairly recent debut in an episode of the Diamond and Pearl anime, my guess is that Kris was swapped out because most of the new and younger players who never played the original Gen 2 games were less likely to know who Kris was, but would instantly recognize Lyra as soon as they started playing HeartGold and SoulSilver especially if they watched the anime around the time of the episode's airing.

The animated film ‘Pokemon the Movie: I Choose You’ explains that Raikou, Entei and Suicune take on those types because those are the elements surrounding their deaths. The lightning that struck the building, the fire that destroyed the building and the rain that extinguished the fire. Ho-Oh resurrected them so they could roam the world and protect other Pokemon from such fates.

I’ve never played gold or silver, but by far Kris was my favorite player character (design wise) pre-customization. The blue on the design just worked really well for her sprite. Also, her being the first female character was a huge thing for Pokémon. Lyra is great too, though 🤷🏽‍♀️

In the HGSS manga Crys changes her design to resemble Lyra so I think it’s less of a replacement and more of a hair style change and pallet swap. Or maybe to resemble an older looking trainer?

I feel like Crys was the first example of a trend Pokemon would continue, where they change the design or player character entirely in the enhanced/remake of the same region, Hilbert and Hilga to Nate and Rosa, Red and Green to Chase and Elaine, etc. While for the Ruins of Alph, I think the interest for it is b/c it's an unanswered mystery and I believe that's the intention, hence it's the home of the Unown

@@franciscolupercio9963 I said "enhanced/remake of the same region" so either, enhanced games being Yellow, Crystal, Emerald, Platinum, Black2/White2, etc. Leaf Green is still a gen 1 kanto remake (despite not having a direct original). The player character for Yellow is Red, the player character for its remake Let's Go is Chase/Elaine. Despite the addition of Eevee as a starter Let's Go is still a Yellow remake, remakes are not exact copies of the ogs, hence Sevii Islands in FR/LG or megas and fairy types in ORAS and Let's Go. I suppose your partially correct, since technically Leaf isnt originally from gen 1, but moving forward she's accepted as the female player counterpart to Red and made a reappearance in P/E

My guess on the first one is the fact that her name was based on pokemon Crystal so they changed the character to keep fans from expecting a third remake.

This is just something I came up right now, but I think the reason Lyra replaced Kris was because Kris didn't fit the aesthetic they were going for. If you look at Kris's attire, it's not really the same style Ethan has going for him. I'll also point out that it was stated that Giovanni had a red haired kid in FireRed/LeafGreen...and there aren't exactly many redheads in the Kanto/Johto area.

Given the similarities in their design, I'm inclined to believe Lyra started out as an updated Kris, but somewhere along the line her design was altered so much that it was felt she no longer looked enough like the original character and so was renamed. As for why they might have altered the design so much in the first place, maybe it was just to emphasize that these were Gold/Silver remakes, whereas Kris's blue coloration (not to mention name) were always very clearly inspired by her debuting in Ceystal. It could also maybe be a similar case to how the female protagonist of the gen-1 remakes was changed to Leaf, with a look inspired by but clearly distinct from the counterpart character in the manga.

What about 10% Zygard? It looks very similar to the pokemon that died in the fire, and Ho-Oh could have powered them up by adding an element to them that represented their deaths. Electric for the lightning that started it all, Fire for the tragedy, and Water for what could've helped

In the manga, Kris and Lyra are *one* character as Crystal, they even had Chikorita (she swapped to Lyra's outfit in HGSS arc when they are about to encounter Arceus). Pokemon Masters preserved manga personality of Kris which is interested in ecology while Lyra enjoys friendly walks, a reference to HGSS walking feature with Pokemon. Kris was known as Marina in the Pokemon Chronicles: Legend of Thunder, together with Jimmy/Ethan while Lyra appeared in a promotional episode of HG/SS during D/P saga as she travels with two other anime-only Johto characters.

Arcanine was a legendary at one point in Kanto. So if he was created with different variations in type. That could lead into ho-oh reviving them into better forms. I could see this working since the legendary birds are getting new variations.

I think it's already been said, but I'm fairly certain that Kris was replaced because they HeartGold and SoulSilver were not remakes of Pokemon Crystal. Remakes can have different things happen based on the game. I know this isn't the best example, but Game freak treats let's go Pikachu and Let's go Eevee as separate games from FireRed and LeafGreen, because they were based off Pokemon Yellow. Either that, or they just wanted to shove Kanto down our throats some more. Either way this is just my opinion.

I think another possible reason aside from the nostalgia/greed of gamefreak, is perhaps we needed a 3D version of Kanto. Because we’re about to get DLC for sw/sh we might get a DLC for Let’s Go so that Johto gets a 3D representation..?

Sinjoh Ruins was kind of a cheat as it's not technically part of Johto, although it's not like you had a better place to mention it. For now I'm referring to it as being part of the Sinjoh Region an area based on the areas of the real world Tohoku & Northern Chubu regions of Japan. 1 of my regrets of Pokemon Let's Go was that they kept entirely to the Kanto Region of Japan with a few exceptions. Pallet Town, Route 1, Route 22, Route 23, Victory Road, & Indigo Plateau are all in Japan's Chubu Region which in the Pokemon Games is split into the Kanto, Johto, & Sinjoh regions. I had hopes we would be able to explore the Johto & Sinjoh Regions in them this time 2 years ago. I'm sure we all had that desire to walk through anywhere through anything in Heart Gold or Soul Silver & just keep going North from Pewter City or Blackthorn City to try to find the Sinjoh Ruins. Also for another part of Japan we never got to explore in Pokemon there's the Chugoku Region which is the area to the west of Olivine. Interestingly most of the Johto Region is Chubu with Ecruteak, Olivine, & Cianwood Cities being in the Kansai Region of real world Japan. However a different division of regions from the usual splits the Johto parts of Kansai & combines them with parts of Chubu to form the Tokai Region of Japan. Tokai & Koshin'etsu region by that same way of dividing Honshu combine to form Johto as we know it. Of course Kanto of PokeEarth kind of steals some of that Koshin'etsu/Chubu region. Perhaps someday we'll get to see those 2 Japan based regions we never got based on Chugoku & Tohoku?

Actually I just noticed something in pokemon Sword and Sheild when you take a close look at the words you will see that the letters actually look very simaler to the actual pokemon form of the unknown

The thing is, Lyra and Kris are pretty much the same person tho, just updated. They have the exact same role in the game, they just implemented it better so that the character could exist when the protagonist was the other one. Not unlike how Leaf is technically Blue/Green. There wasn't a female protag in Gen 1, but there were plans and designs for one. They changed her outfit and appearance a little bit more and only ever recently gave her some backstory in LGPE. But still, same character. For the Legendary Beasts, even if not officialy, it has already been solved too. The Beta shows us 3 sprites of "Rai, En and Sui" and in some kind of internal joke, those poor poor designes were killed off and revived as Raikou, Entei and Suicune.

I always figured that the Sinjoh Ruins thing was a teaser for a possible Sinnoh Remake, where it takes place before all the games, where your character goes between Sinnoh, Johto and Kanto on some quest that leads to the creation of the civilization that builds the Sinjoh Ruins. Maybe someone, or (something? 😉) is hunting down legendary pokemon. And you need to find Arceus and collect the Unown to re-create them.

I always figured that the three nameless Pokemon that died and were brought back were three Eevee; since it is no secret that Eevee's genetic code is highly unstable, and could therefore be mutated well beyond ordinary Eeveelutions, and instead be transformed entirely into legendary Pokemon.

Not really because there legs all look like Boltund legs which a Boltund could have die and reborn as Suicune! Arcanine died and is reborn as Raikou because they both have marking on their body! Houndoom died and it reborn as Entei because they both have the same design on their legs which looks like a bracelet around there legs!

Kris was replaced because she had too much distinct characteristics, much different than Ethan's. If you notice, every male and female protagonists from generation 3 and onwards are very similar to each other, in a way that they can be considered as the male and female versions of the same person. Lyra resembles the female version of Ethan while Kris does not.

One thing you missed but coincidentally Ariana means silver.(though this applies to the English version and Welsh origin of the name) I may be wrong but Athena being her japanese name makes sense too. Athena was the goddess of wisdom and war(as well as a rocket theme naming the 4some of HGSS have) and Silver was on the warpath against team rocket(especially in the remakes) but ultimately gained wisdom following his defeats by Lance and Gold/Ethan/Kris/Lyra.
