"A little fact about the noise blegh. I do enjoy doing it and I like how much people are into it but I don’t like it when people talk about weather it makes a song good or not." Tweeted by Sam himself, so there you go.

Tom was the composer and the main reference in his records. Tom is unique and unrepeatable. It is normal that now they are looking for their sound again. Holly Hell was already escaping from his style, and you could see the difference between the songs even made by Tom. I like the new Architects, and whatever happens, for me they will always be Architects, whatever they sound like, one of the biggest bands in Metalcore.

My initial reaction to this song was that it fell a little flat. But really just because I'm continuously thrown off by the cleans, which I'm not as used to with Architects. But when you take a step back and listen to the song in whole... the Breakdown slams you that much harder when it turns those cleans into an absolute chest punch. And if you take the lyrics into context... the entire lyrical tone of the song is absolutely driven home by those 2-3 breakdowns at the end. The cleans are not just there to be catchy or poppy. They have a definite effect in the overall arc of the song. I'm not saying their past breakdowns weren't slamming from "CANCER" or "Nihilist" but this is just a different take, and it has a different effect. The more I listen to Animals and Black Lungs, the more I'm starting to understand what they're doing. I'm eager to hear this album, and I totally embrace this direction they're taking. You can call it generic, but the fact is that they make "generic" 10x better than the other generic bands. Think Radiohead and "High and Dry".
@ElyciusM4 жыл бұрын
im super late to this, but the part where you're talking about the camera work with the drummer, you should totally check out the music video for Keep Me Alive by Fit For A King and wait for 1:08 in the video. what the drummer does to start the next phrase is so fucking sick that i have hardly ever even finished the song cause i just replay that part over and over lmao. Also, it's a good song you'd like it.

I mean, to each their own... but, I don't get why everyone dislikes this chorus. It reminds me of stuff from "The Here and Now" but much better, less punky, more elevated. I'm loving it. A mix of the old, with a new direction breaking free from the pressure of trying to make songs that sound like what Tom would write. P.S. "generic" is such a generic term.

I can live with blegh or less blegh, whatever the artists aim for or try to aim for. Animals didn't catch me as hard as this song caught me, but that's just my opinion. As for it being generic, for metalcore I can somewhat get it, but I still find their style unique, the singing and instrumental stands out as far as I'm concerned. I do think this is basically argueing about what type of technical metal you like, some prefer harder stuff, some prefer softer, I like both, but it also depends on my mood.
@TEXAS_SKOLDIER4 жыл бұрын
I agree with you, it does break it down a little too much sometimes, but it puts even more emphasis on the heavy when it drops back in. I actually like it in this song. And man, I wish during the break down instead of yelling “AHHH”, that he would’ve dropped a nasty BLEEGGGGH!! But he’s said in the past that he hates that sound and wishes he would’ve never done it in previous songs... lame. I dig a solid BLEGH

I mean, I love when bands try themselves out. I love Bands who renew their Sound. I love when bands turn 180 degrees ans go completely new ways. There are tons of examples where I enjoyed following them on their journey. But with Architects it doesn't work for me. To me, Holy Hell was more or less picking up what made them big and playing safe, and those new songs (which still are far beyond bad) just take that further while picking up current trends (which is also not wrong at all). But to me these guys don't sound like that that came naturally. To me they are on a crowdpleasing journey since Holy Hell. I commented that somewhere else: Those two songs glibber thru my hands like wet soap bars. I miss the edges that hurt. Too polished. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy tons of bands that go the catchy way and drop a part of their complexity and heaviness, but with this band, it doesn't work - in my opinion. So a big 'nah' from me.
@homerdj0nt4 жыл бұрын
If we're talking about being "less heavy or less technical" Dead Butterflies and Discourse is Dead is the way to go imo. They realy stand out with that style.. also something like Royal Beggars and A Wasted Hymn. Thats their peak in a more "soft" sound, imo

@@chrisp.14 well, then we're talking personal preferences. I'm pretty convinced that H.H. was their overall best work to date, for many objective reasons. Still dont know what the 15 tracks FTTWTE will reserve tho, time will tell..
@chrisp.144 жыл бұрын
@@homerdj0nt well, obviously I haven't placed enough 'to me' and 'in my opinion' in my comment. But okay, lol. And hey, when talking about music, forget about objectivity. It is not existant in music discussion because as soon as you judge or rate music in any way, may it be positive or negative, it is no longer objective, no matter how 'good' or 'bad' it is from your point of view - because it is your point of view, it is because you are convinced in any way. You. So it is always your opinion and a purely subjektive thing - because it is always what YOU think.

They've become Wage Warchitects. The song is far from bad, but when you set the bar as high as they did this record and Animals just fall well short. This feels like a song made for the sake of making it instead of one that they really wanted to make.

I don't know.. I just find this new Architects music bland... I understand they need to evolve but it's just not doing anything for me that hasn't been done before by a thousand bands... meanwhile the likes of Polaris, Spirit Box and Crystal Lake have been a complete standout in 2020. Maybe there might be something better on the way from Architects... lets hope so :)
@sebastianbauer424 жыл бұрын
Exactly how I feel about it. Respect them progressing as a band. For me though it just doesn't do it and that's fine. Both new songs are quite simple in structure, sound generic and lack a lot of the technicality and the vocals are just too much edited. Sam's a great vocalist on a record but the last tour before Covid hit clearly showed he's nowhere near capable of pulling off all those "sing screams" live, which is sad.
@omegazx72364 жыл бұрын
I think this is way better than anything Polaris has done, but to each his own I guess
@sebastianbauer424 жыл бұрын
@Cameron Pangborn Yes, it's certainly more appealing to a lot of people, I wouldn't doubt that. For me it's also not about "just screams" or "showing off" and all that stuff. I absolutely hate guitar solos for that exact reason. Neither did I want to judge Architect's new style. For me personally I just like the sound of the more complex stuff more. For example bands like Periphery who also don't just scream. Or heck, even Soen. Songs like Lotus or Martys - I absolutely adore them. All clean vocals, no heavy riffing, but way more interesting song structures which I just like more. What I wanted to say: I don't want to judge that one thing's better than the other and that I'm definitely not one of those hardliner guys complaining just because Architects have gone more "mass compatible" - because my taste of music includes a lot of softer music as well. I really just have been talking about the songs/music itself which just doesn't do it for me unfortunately.
@prs1494 жыл бұрын
But maybe when you get older and you get more mature you won't want so much blegh

Is it a good song by a good band? Yes Is it Architects? No. Architects died with Tom unfortunately. He wrote and produced everything. This is basically the beta rollback version of Architects.
