Hooray! Todd Episode! Is the first time in BoJack Horseman that Todd gets the real focus and attention he deserves. Though he’s had big roles in his misadventures before this, this episode is the first to put a spotlight on not only his day to day life, but his tendencies to put others before himself. Todd generally avoids conflict and is a natural caregiver, and this episode highlights why these attributes can both be his biggest strength, and most frustrating weakness. And through this particularly messy misadventure, Todd learns the value in living for himself when he needs to.

When Todd tells Bojack to leave his party after he’s hit rock bottom that was a moment that hit me like a ton of bricks. Todd is the most naively optimistic person in the series, who usually sees the good in people who quite frankly don’t always deserve it. At that point Bojack had spent all his goodwill with Todd, and he finally had to put his foot down and say no. It’s a damning moment of the series imo.

Please don't be mad at me. I'm not defending Bojack. He's been totally toxic with Todd for years. But when Bojack is totally alone with everyone hating him and Todd slams the door in his face. You can't blame Todd, but I feel sorry for Bojack. I believe that loneliness is one of the greatest human tragedies. And even after everything Bojack has done, I sincerely believe that loneliness is something that no one deserves. As Mr. Peanutbutter says, everyone deserves to be loved.

Something about the fashion trend I noticed in the show, if you pay attention at first you only see very “high status” celebrities and models wearing the outfit, like Courtney. Then after a few episodes, it shows up more frequently, usually with wealthier and more “important” characters. Then not long after that, there’s a scene where they’re in the diner and almost every single person was wearing the outfit. It’s a very small continuity detail but I found it interesting how it accurately portrayed how most fashion trends progress, being gatekept by different tiers of society until it’s considered a “worn out” style in the fashion community and becomes “common”.

That quote "Everybody is looking at you but nobody sees you" really hits me hard. Because I have had people who straight up take advantage of me, despite being so kind and patient with them all the time. And it really is hard to consistently stand up for yourself when people make you feel guilty and dismiss when you do. I try my best to set as much boundaries as I can and to look out for myself as much as possible, but overall feels good to say no, even if I don't say all the time but it's feels even better to not be obliged to toxic people.

Todd is the gold standard for asexual representation, and watching this episode for the first time is one of my happiest memories. Seeing asexuality discussed in a tv show, seeing them actually say the word, was so important to me, and made me feel so seen. I remember when season 3 dropped, and the ace community kept talking about potential ace rep in Bojack Horseman. I already adored the show, and had seen other "canonical" pieces of rep disappoint me before, so I decided I wasn't going to get my hopes up. If Bojack gave us ace rep, fantastic, but if it didn't I wouldn't hold it against the show, and would just carry on watching as normal. I'm still shocked we got the amount that we did.

I think Todd is another great example of how a character gets better and better the more nuanced and furter explored he is. At the surface level' he's the loveable slacker type, but we eventually learn that he is actually quite busy and lives a minimalist lifestyle more because he's relentlessly giving; working for free or giving away his earnings. But he still manages to bumble his way into success time and time again, all without compromising his character. Him and PB are the only characters who seem legitimately happy with who they are and what is happening in their lives, but unlike PB Todd isnt held down by weird relationship issues, and he is also very involved in the central situations, not getting distracted from the importsnt details. Despite other caracter having more than Todd, I think them having closeted mistakes and insecurities makes them miserable. To me Todd shows that it is possible to be happy and uncompromisingly nice at the same time. And also this episode showed that you can still take time for yourself and your desires without changing that.

I'll be honest, when I first watched "Bojack Horseman," I identified myself more with Diane Nguyen. One because she was Asian/Asian American like I am. Two, because we both have a passion for writing. Three, we both get easily frustrated towards those who refuse to change themselves for the better while working to change ourselves for the better. However, after watching this video, I can definitely see myself more as Todd because I used to be a huge people pleaser myself until I learned to be okay with just being me. While I still have ways to go in order to become more financially independent, at least I can say that I now feel comfortable being in my own skin. Hopefully, when the time is right, I would be able to put myself out more as a creative no problem without fearing for my life. Long story short, I learned the hard way that you can be the most responsible, intellectual, caring, creative, cultured person on the planet and still get your butt whooped by even your own family. That may be because others can't learn to better themselves for you after you bettered their lives and/or because they would rather follow the money trail so to speak when in truth, there is more than one. As such, I've learned to be more selective with who I choose to hang around with. That sadly for me meant having to be more distant towards my family after they constantly refused to help me grow as a creative, despite the fact that they knew deep down that I was everything that a parent could ever want to see in a child after raising that said child. To them, as long as money is their God, then there's no point in helping me succeed in whatever it is that I want to do, regardless of what reality has shown them.

Seeing Todd work through his sexuality and actually name it for what it is was huge for me, also asexual but very concerned there was something wrong with me. I also relate way too hard with Todd's people pleasing ways. Excellent breakdown of the episode, probably my favourite of the whole show.

Todd is my favorite character for his selflessness! He reminds me the most of myself! Not only because I’m asexual too, but we are both silly and and caring towards those around us. I cried when Todd went to the asexual meet up!

Not covering it! Sorry! I'm only gonna cover the eps that I'm really inspired to talk about this year, and I was a lil underwhelmed by this one. We'll see how next week goes!

This is actually one of my favorite episodes too. I’ve been binge watching the episode a couple of times, since ~ this is the episode where GODD in the form of a child ~ err XD “Spritely young man” is reunited with his long lost younger sister~~~~~~ and you could see ~ throughout the whole’ episode that he’s trying to make it up to her~
