Hi Annikee - Thanks!! Glad you enjoyed - are you UK or abroad? After the band played a memorial night for Mickey last year, the promoter said 'You must keep going - it is a very special band' so the band plays on 'Flying the Flag' for Mickey and Art too I hope I will try to let you know if another memorial night happens or the band plays again! Thanksvery much for your comment.

Jeff Beck's album 'Anthology' credits Mickey Waller for 'Shapes of Things' (EMI Sessions 20th March 1968 )and Keith Moon for 'Beck's Bolero' (De Lane Lea sessions) - I would guess they have researched this pretty carefully -

It's bugging me now!!! 'Truth' was definitely Mickey's album and I am sure in the past I have seen a You Tube video of The Jeff Beck Group playing 'Shapes' with Mickey on but it seems to have dissappeared as if to help the confusion!! I can't answer for sure right now although I would like to think it was Mickey's handywork! Let me know if you find the answer first - I will be trying to find out too...

Update: I found a video of Shapes and It was most definitely Micky on drums. No doubt at all. Its an amazing piece.

@kimgutman1954 Hi Kim, Just watched all four tracks on You Tube - what a great band you had and so good to see Micky looking so fit and well just as he would want - playing some solid and almost 'funky' drums - excellent - 'glad you called by - 'didn't know this footage existed - Micky used to always talk affectionately about his days playing with Sammy Mitchell

was it he or keith that played drums on shapes of things. its a question that i cant find the answer to and its been bugging me, it sounds like keith but i want to be sure.

Ha thanks for your help, that was a very impressive bit of drumming, I was almost sure it had Keith's style. I guess Mickey is in the same league of the best drummer of all time (in my opinion). Shapes is one of my favorite songs to air drum.

Rod mentioned a silly story of Mickey wearing a silly coat to funeral he and Woody were attending...Rod didn't allow him to go! With that being said Waller was a powerhouse ...a loose and floppy player that sounded GREAT with Rod

Hi Kris, 'Just read this - It was Krissy Wood's funeral and, as I understand, Art Wood had promised to bring Micky a smart blazer / jacket to wear for the occasion, as Micky did not have such an item in his wardrobe.....Alas, they didn't hitch up before Krissy's funeral started, so Micky kept on his favourite bright blue and pink cycling jacket for the duration of the funeral. When the congregation started to meet up outside, dear Art spotted Micky and said 'Oh Micky, I've got that jacket for you'. Micky mumbled, with his cheeky smile, 'Well it's a bit late now Art....' Then, I believe, the event that you described took place, with Mr Stewart exclaiming something like 'What sort of a jacket is that to wear to a funeral'....I knew Micky and Art well but not Rod Stewart but got the impression that Rod had always looked after Micky with recording work over the years as they had worked together from early days along with Long John Baldry, Jeff Beck and others. Sadly Micky received a call that his Dad was seriously ill back in the UK, while Micky was out in the USA along with Rod Stewart - possibly to continue working together, I am not sure but the end result was that Micky returned home to look after his Dad and that is when Carmine Appiece took over Rod's drum chair - so I believe. 'Glad you brought this up because I always found the jacket story quite amusing and guess it lightened up a very sad occasion for a few moments.... With best wishes and 'hope life is treating you well, Mark Freeman.

curious as to what brand of drums Micky played from the every picture tells a story album. He's a hell of a drummer and a great sounding kit!
@Diddleywah6 жыл бұрын
I Cannot be certain on these particular recordings but Micky certainly did once tell me that, though many thought he used Ludwig Drums, he actually used Hayman Drums on his recordings - whether that applies to Every Picture, I cannot be certain but quite likely Hayman is your answer....With Best Wishes & fond memories, Mark Freeman.

i heard that, on the Every picture session, he had very little equipment with him. and they had to improvises. things like a drum pedal.

@@clancykobane9102 Yep, there's one track, either 'Maggie May' or 'You Wear it Well' that Micky played without any cymbals as he didn't bring any and none around in the studio (Morgan Studios?)..open to correction but I am sure that is what he told me.....
