Lyrics:
She sits alone by a lamp post
Trying to find a thought that's escaped her mind
She says Dad's the one I love the most
But Stipe's not far behind
She never lets me in
Only tell me where's she's been
When she's had too much to drink
I say that I don't care
I just run my hands through her dark hair
Then I pray to God, you gotta help me fly away and just
Let her cry, if the tears fall down like rain
Let her sing, if it eases all her pain
Let her go, let her walk right out on me
And if the sun comes up tomorrow
Let her be, let her be
This morning I woke up alone
Found a note standin' by the phone
Saying maybe, maybe I'll be back someday
I wanted to look for you
You walked in, I didn't know just what I should do
So I sat back down and had a beer and felt sorry for myself
Saying...
Let her cry, if the tears fall down like rain
Let her sing, if it eases all her pain
Let her go, let her walk right out on me
And if the sun comes up tomorrow
Let her be, oh
Last night I tried to leave
Cried so much, I could not believe
She was the same girl I fell in love with long ago
She went in the back to get high
I sat down on my couch and cried
Yelling, "Oh mama, please help me"
Won't you hold my hand and...
Let her cry, if the tears fall down like rain
Let her sing, if it eases all her pain
Let her go, let her walk right out on me
And if the sun comes up tomorrow
Let her be
Let her cry, if the tears fall down like rain
Let her sing, if it eases all her pain
Let her go, let her walk right out on me
And if the sun comes up tomorrow
Let her be, oh, let her be

With their unreplicable blend of blues, rock, soul and the pure joy of making music-Hootie & the Blowfish are unparalleled in their uniquely universal sound. The band fine tuned this sound playing frat parties and gigs at the University of South Carolina. The transition from playing covers to original songs was warmly received by audiences around the southeast and the band released their first full album “Cracked Rear View” in 1994 to legendary success. With hits like “Only Wanna Be With You”, “Hold My Hand” and “Let Her Cry” Cracked Rear View remains the 9th best selling album in music history.

The man at 1:21 was my grandfather. He let them film the video at his shop. He died when I was a baby, but it's nice to see him in motion this video. Even if it's just a little bit, it's more than enough for me.

Me and my dad painted Darius Rucker's home in Charleston SC in 1994.. It was painted yellow with black trim.. And when we were done he walked up after being on the road and told my dad "Nice job!" and signed my dad's tee shirt! I was so blown away all I could do was stare.. Dad said to me Pick up your tongue son he's only like you and me.. ! I still couldn't speak! I still remember it like it was yesterday..

It’s going to fit in every time of life…there’s always That Guy tries to help her , cute little mess she needs ME because of her trauma, and THEN she does something Effed up, He catches her. Then she cries that he’s all she’s got.. Man he loves her so much it’s killing him. But she does it again and again and again. Except he knows this isn’t his life he imagined. It’s killing the both of them. He’s gotta be the one who lets go. And that’s heart wrenching. He finally understands. The sun comes up…birds still sing…World Turnin’….. Shake it off if you’re listening to this in that funk. It hurts a little less every day.. AND GHOST HER. For real I’m a girl, believe me, I have Seen some really humiliating shit women do to their men. And the other guy drops her off a block away from the house.yup, she was with the girls and the “ WINE” made her tired. Then blows you off hen she gets home. And you know she wasn’t where she says.

Went through that with someone when I was in my early 20's. She didn't want to see what was right in front of her and got into shitty relationship after shitty relationship, turned to drugs to cope, and wound up dead a few years later. I'm in my 40's now, and married, and not a single day goes by where I don't think about what might have happened if I tried a little harder, or had the knowledge I have now back then. Some people just don't want to be saved, and that's the sad reality of it all.

Grew up in the 90s and thought Hootie & the Blowfish were good. The more & more I listen to this band today and actually listen to the lyrics of their songs, you realize they were actually miles above anyone they are compared to. Everything about this song in particular is just perfect. Darius' voice is perfect for the lyrics, the acoustic riffs, the speed of the song, everything is damn near perfect.

The 90s caliber of songwritting be it ballads, rap, r&b, metal, rock, alternative is just a chasm of separation from todays lyrics. The songwriting is just poetic, real, from the heart, and that is why it transcends time and still applies today - and it will still resonate 20 - 50 years from now.

It’s hard if not impossible to compete with a bottle, a pill, a line, a needle … for those of us that were determined to try, we learn that when in love with an addict, we’ll never be number one, and rarely even number two in their lives. I myself became an addict to join the misery instead of letting go. That was some time ago. Although I’ve healed, I still feel others pain in the core of my heart. Peace to all of you. ❤️✝️

🎶 LYRICS 🎶 She sits alone by a lamp post Tryin' to find the thought that's escaped her mind She says, "Dad's the one I love the most But Stipe's not far behind" She never lets me in, only tells me where she's been When she's had too much to drink I say that I don't care, I just run my hands through her dark hair Then I pray to God you gotta help me fly away And just let her cry if the tears fall down like rain Let her sing if it eases all her pain Let her go, let her walk right out on me And if the sun comes up tomorrow, let her be, let her be This morning I woke up alone, found a note standing by the phone Sayin', "Maybe, maybe I'll be back someday" I wanted to look for you You walked in, I didn't know just what I should do So I sat back down and had a beer and felt sorry for myself Sayin' let her cry if the tears fall down like rain Let her sing if it eases all her pain Let her go, let her walk right out on me And if the sun comes up tomorrow, let her be, let her be No, no, no, no Let her cry let her cry if the tears fall down like rain Let her sing if it eases all her pain Let her go, let her walk right out on me And if the sun comes up tomorrow, let her be, ah Last night I tried to leave, cried so much I could not believe She was the same girl I fell in love with long ago She went in the back to get high I sat down on my couch and cried, yellin' "Oh, mama, please help me" Won't you hold my hand and Let her cry if the tears fall down like rain Let her sing if it eases all her pain Let her go, let her walk right out on me And if the sun comes up tomorrow, let her be Let her cry, if the tears fall down like rain Let her sing, if it eases all her pain Let her go, let her walk right out on me And if the sun comes up tomorrow, let her be Ah, let her be

Having grown up in the 70's, I witnessed the caliber of songwriters that came out during that period. Quality songwriting. Heartfelt songs with meaning behind the words they wrote. Words that came from their hearts and souls and that touched those who listened to them. Words that people could relate to. This song takes me back to those days of quality wordsmiths. There is more to music than to simply entertain. It reminds us that as different as we are, we share one very important thing.....emotions. If this song doesn't move you, than you may be listening to the words, but your aren't hearing them.

Sorry. Using slang here. When someone says "word!" It means they agree with what you said.

+Jim Payette I hear ya, and just watching a few seconds of it, not only did my ears bleed, but so did my eyes. I don't get how people can like that kind of music, it's so vulgar.

+Jim Payette Thank's cool dawg. I came here after listening to that song. Turns out musical tastes are eclectic and vary by person to person.
