Our Hoover constellation cleaned up after 16 huskies, 31 cats and one Fox. I still can’t believe I am going through your channel looking at these videos but honestly they make me cry because they remind me of my mother and how much she always loved random electronics, and if she felt something was unique, she would hold onto it. I never understood that as a child when I was using this little ball vacuum that was floating along following me through the house like a little pet, but I realize now. And it just makes me miss my mother even more. So thank you for making these videos. I didn’t even know it was called a Hoover constellation. For some stupid reason I just typed in round Hoover vacuum because I was thinking of my mother and these videos came up that matched my memories. Thank you for that.

Wow that takes me back. I’m fairly certain when I was about 5 my mum had a blue grey version. I use to love the way it floated . I also recall my mum who had me when very young and not technologically minded probably didn’t empty it or maintain it correctly and it blew dust back at carpet. Somebody who understood cleaners sorted it out and it was good for years. As a lover of doctor who I thought it was so high tech 😂

3 screw came in with 867 pale green as did the sponge exhaust filter to help stop some of the carbon being forced into the carpet and blackening them as they slowly did. I was told that from Hoover during training more years ago than I will admit to.

Interestingly the US models never seemed to have an exhaust filter until the modern version was brought in the 2000s.

That top has been changed for sure. From ex Hoover engineer. Also though the hose is genuine it's not the one that came with it.. Thanks Rodger from Andy.

I think people carrying them to do the stairs, they must accidentally drop them. I have a 1970's model and it too has a big dent in the top side of it. If they took it to a authorized Hoover shop probably that was the newest part made for spares they had in stock, or came off another machine of the same model but a later production.

Wouldn't it be lovely if they made them again. Was there ever a bumper strip around the base?

They did make them again in the early 2000s but they couldn’t have sold well as you can still get them brand new on eBay UK as the Maytag Satellite. I have never seen a Constellation with a bumper around the base.

I appreciate vintage machine the style look appearance of it and how good it works i had a modern vacuum and everything broke on it the plastic was not for me so vintage is what i have now andi try to be more gentle with it

I’m surprised that the tools had plastic clips for such an early machine must have been just before the 1962 grey model Maybe . My Nan had the matching pink 1334 and the tool kit definitely had metal clips. Would have come with the pink Hoover two pin plug originally

The first pink & white Constellation I owned did have metal clips. I recently opened an old blue/grey Dustette that had a blue two pin Hoover plug fitted.

Hoover Constellation model 862 wasin production from 1958 to 1962. Plastic clips came in the 1970s.

Some dialectric grease should be able to sort out that sticky switch, it's just dry, probably some dirt got in there too over the decades.
