Hello, so this is a near enough full cycle video of the minimum iron cycle (number 4) in the Keymatic using a key plate A. Washing a small load of clothes, the machine handles balancing really well. Machine does four rinses despite the fascia saying it will only do three, suspect it’s had a replacement timer at some point or another. Final spin is 20 seconds, longer on other cycles, at 750rpm. Do you have one of these machines you're looking to sell, or even just the little program card? Get in touch!

That's got to be 60 years old! I remember my mother having one but she got rid of it in the end because it kept requiring a new drum each year for some reason? She got a twin tub to replace it! The last one I ever saw was in 1988 when I exchanged it for a customer of the electricity board,

correction on the spin: On normal programs it was around 3-4 minutes and on others fragile wash 45 seconds.

My family had such machine in their home. I remeber as a child listening to its interresting sounds and that. My parents never let the door open during wash so you couldnt see the drum move. I,m pretty sure the machine only did three rinses and that the final spin was about 3-4 minutes long. My parents used the machine regalry until around 1998 1999 ish when it began leaking water and tripping electricity sometimes. Dad had the machine in the boiler room for a while until they throw it away around 2004. He had tried fixing the leak but with no succes.

No, bad idea to open the door during washing if there are small children about, he might stick his arm in the drum!

This is an awesome washing machine, there was a lot of thought went into these, such a complicated over engineered machine, today’s machine could learn a thing or two from these, instead we have generic machines nowadays that companies just buy in and put their name on, where’s the fun in that, no craftsmanship any more, no individuality, it’s such a shame that companies like hoover nowadays just bang out a ton of shite with many different names like candy , Iberna by baumatic ( no it’s not it’s iberna by baumatic by candy ) zerowatt, vyatka ( russian branded hoover/candy machines ) etc etc

Thanks for the video! Would you know the reason behind why the door seal are all kind of oversized and floppy in these machines? I'm wondering if there is any reason behind the design?
@TheLaundryCentre
@TheLaundryCentre 9 ай бұрын
The door seal is oversized and floppy because as the machine fills with water the drum drops and tilts from let’s say 45° to a more flat level like a normal front loader today. Wish the seal wasn’t so huge and different as there’s no other gaskets on the markets that could be used as an alternative

Hi does the machine have 2 separate drive motors one for the drum and one for the pulsator?
@samuelfellows6923
@samuelfellows6923 4 жыл бұрын
No ❌, in a previous video, he had the back panel off and shown the mechanics - back of the outer drum as a pulley/clutch assembly, and the motor is twin outputs; slow gear reduced and main/fast - these are belted to 2 pulleys on the back of the outer drum with 2 clutch’s = slow pulley is engaged with 2nd clutch to inner drum for wash/rinse, fast pulley independently engaging/disengaging with 1st clutch to pulsator for additional wash/rinse action, for drum spin - simultaneously, 1st clutch engages fast pulley to pulsator and 2 clutch engages to 1st clutch and it disengages from slow pulley (we can see the pulsator spinning in the video) 😉

I could never see the point of the pulsator at the back it just seemed to Be to rough with the load and splash water about , not to mention more complicated engineering around the back . Nice to see the wash cycle though

Isn't this some kind of hybrid between a real front loader and a toploader?
@Martindyna
@Martindyna 3 жыл бұрын
Not really although I understand why you might say that. Hoover decided to incorporate their `pulsator' (high speed disc paddle - from their non automatic machines) into an Automatic by leaning the drum backwards and using a high water level presumably to achieve quicker but thorough washing. I'm surprised that the pulsator is used on the `Minimum iron' programme as in the video, I thought it was only used on the `Cottons' programme (it can tend to wear out the clothes). The machine uses alot of hot water compared to a modern machine (I guess 3 - 4 times as much) but at least I understand it has hot fill which, for a Cottons' programme will save money if your domestic hot water supply is heated by e.g. an oil or gas fired boiler (compared to expensive peak tariff electricity - UK). P.S. Some old designs used crazy amounts of hot water, my parents had a Hotpoint top loader (vertical axle) here in the UK similar to the American design; it used 16 imp. gallons (72.7 litres) of hot water to wash 7 - 10 kgs of washing !!

Blimey, I cant believe it actually starts steaming on simply 40*C... wow... I would expect to steam with a 95*C but not 40*C - Im impressed... Btw, I was wondering, is it normal for the right side of the rubber below to be misshapen like that... In almost all videos of the Keymatic WM, I see that for some reason the right side is kind of "contorted"... Why is that?

@@pilskadden - yes, quite right, but a bit too slow for my liking. In comparison to the twin-tubs/spin dryers before it - 3030/2010 RPM, modern automatic front loaders - 1600 RPM, [spin dryers are still available to supplement modern washers]

@@samuelfellows6923 Not many automatics give you 1800 RPM spin !! I only know of one made by Miele. 1600 is more usual and more than adequate (law of diminishing returns).
