Interesting to see an Australian Hoovermatic. I am Welsh and we had 2 over the years, both made in the Hoover factory at Merthyr Tydfil. They were basically the same as this one but the rinse feaure was different and the knobs smaller and harder to turn. You'd think the same manufacturer would turn out the same product wherever, but apparently not so

Wow I’ve never seen a Twin Tub with heater. That’s cool.

That stainless steel tub looks pristine. Very nice.

We had this model as a kid. Before that we had a round one with the rollers on top to squeeze out the water. This model was a "Housewives dream". It also doubled as an esky for parties. Just put in ice and beer and you're good to go.

I wish they still manufactured these washing machines in the UK. I mean 4 minutes for a wash.

And it does the job in 4 minutes if it’s loaded properly :-)

Another great find Matt & Eliot, I do like those larger style of controls , much easier to grip & turn, and that spin spray nozzle looks like it can do a fab job .

What is fascinating to see is a heater for a twin tub and also a side mounted pulsator as when seeing the clothes in the wash part it looks like it's "tumbling" in a front load washer

Beautiful specimen! Here, in Mexico, there was a time when single and twin tubes excelled on budget washing machines, and thousands of families had their clothes fresh and clean in two seconds... The old ones were built in aluminium tub, and modern ones have plastic tubes. Never was anything in stainless steel... There were compact, lightweight, even movable... reliable and powerful and efficient. There are missed in many homes...

My mum had a twin tub washing machine for about 14 years! I also had a twin tub for a while I loved it!

My mum was initially excited when she swapped her twin tub for a front loader in the 70s, but quickly lamented that the twin tub was better! She appreciated the extra space the front loader afforded in our galley kitchen, though.

Hi Mat, great to see you posting. What an unusual Hoovermatic in Australia, so interesting to see. The nominal load for these was 6 pounds (slightly less than three kilos) although it does depend on what is being washed, you have to reduce the weight when washing large things like sheet or towels. So interesting to see the different auto rinse too, I am surprised they dud not adopt that here as its such a simple mechanism.

Hi Al! Sure these things don't hold a lot! I imagine the housewife would be washing every other day! If they were doing a one wash day every week it would be a mammoth task. My grandmother had three of these one after the other though so they must have worked for her! I love the AutoRinse too on these. The way the water sprays over the entire load not just one part is much better i feel. x

Absolutely brilliant. My mum always had twin tubs right to the end. Unfortunately all the new ones you can buy aren't the quality like these Hoover's and Servis. With a bit of work I'm assuming you can source some great examples?? 👍☺️

I do like the old Hoover twin tubs although they were a bit rough on the clothes, I think the Uk models looked neater not keen on the fill hole in the lid . But still a nice rare model

I have a similar model sitting in my garage waiting for me to find another pump for it. The on it seized up and disintegrated. I have not been successful at finding the correct pump part for the model unit I have. Can I ask for some assistance here?

Nice little machine, I have certainly never seen a Deluxe with an element in it, by the way, Bearing Services (BSC) will have belts to suit this, just take the old one down so they can get the sizing right.

Perhaps would it be faster by using the hot water from the tap then waiting for the water to heat in the tub?
@mattie178 ай бұрын
Yes but it’s nice to have the option to heat the water to a specific temperature and give the clothes a bit of a soak at the same time :-)

Man that thing uses a helluva lot of water compared to modern machines

With this type of washer, you reuse the wash water, depending on how soiled the clothes are. You start with whites first, and providing you don't use chlorine bleach (my understanding is that chlorine bleach is banned in most European countries), then you go with the lightest colors, and maybe darks. You might be able to reuse the same wash water for up to 3 loads.

A 2800 rpm spin. That's faster than my LG front loading washing machine it only does 1100rpm spins.
