Vacuum Collector I just found one of these in the dumpster just this week, except mine has gray trim instead of that lime green trim. The motor works in mine, but the brush does not spin, just like the one in the video. No doubt the belt is broken. How old was your “childhood vacuum”?

Actually, I found out the brush does spin on mine, but only in "carpet" mode, not in "hard floor" mode.

My grandma used to have that in my vacation house but got replaced by a 6583X in 2011 It was so bad that sometimes we needed to bring the vacuum to the house to the vaca house to do big jobs

Good video! Now I know how to lower my Nanolite. I could not for the life of me figure out how to do it until I saw you push down on the brushroll housing with your foot. I found mine (model# U2440-900) in the dumpster last week. After 4 years of finding junked vacuums in the trash, this was the first one that I could use straight out of the trash! It was surprisingly clean, though it is missing the brush attachment. And the "hard floor" setting does not work. But the "carpet" setting does. And that is what is important to me.

That horrible thing's motor isn't bad. What's causing that is an out-of-balance blower due to dust caking in it. What happens is dust collects on the backside of the blades and then once they collect enough, they can unevenly disperse the dust or lose chunks from behind some blades. Washing the aluminum fan would fix it. Take the motor out of it, tap the blower housing off of it, remove the nut holding the blower itself on there, then wash the blower.

bbbc Very interesting! Another cause of excessive noise could be clogged filters. This model has FOUR filters that I have seen on mine so far (I just found it in the dumpster this week) 1… Anti-allergen filter (no mention of “HEPA”) 2... washable screen filter attached to the anti-allergen filter 3… Square gray filter behind the dirt bin 4...Rectangular (pre-motor?) filter below the dirt bin (right below where it says “stair cleaning handle”).

When I bought this I bought it from Walmart back in like 09 I believe I don’t know there should be a date code on it when they were released, I’ve even used Hoover mach Cyclonic because my aunt and uncle had one I’ve also used a mach three cyclonic as well but all things aside The nano light was actually one of Hoover’s best smaller uprights for its time and it’s actually pretty powerful I liked it because it didn’t really have a filter like most uprights, it’s filter was just like a dryer lint trap
