Glad you got that fixed. Will always remember how my father went mad with me for buying the machine in 2001 but over the next couple of days, got more and more interested in it. It was he who insisted we get it out of it's box, and he who wanted first go of it kiddie, and which i gave him. And it was always the machine he used after i got it, rather than his Turbomaster that hadn't (and never did have) any new belts fitted to it.

Ooops! 5:19 If you still have this vacuum, you may be able to retrieve the seal from the bag after you sucked it up.

Oops! It worked so well I didn't notice that, long gone now but I'll get a spare and send it over with the next machine I have for the same person 🤦

The two-belt thing is fascinating - I have never heard of these. Back in the spring of 1997, I began working in an electrical showroom, just as the first Pure Power cleaners went on sale. My mother had a U3120 at the end of 1998, this being one of the original basic models, in all green with black accents. This had only one belt. My mum liked it a lot, but it lasted only two years before a fault on the motor prevented the cleaner from powering up. It was replaced with a U3125, this being all yellow, and had a shorter mains lead & no bag full indicator. Also had one belt. The motor in that burnt out. After this, I have serviced a couple of Pure Power cleaners that had wattages around the 1400 mark, again they had one belt, as did the 700 watt Pure Power I purchased around 2016. I have read with much interest the comments that suggest the idea of a pulley was to slow down the roller on the cleaners with very high wattage motors, and that would certainly make sense.

I've crossed over to thr dark side now (numatic😅) but you can't beat a purepower for power and airflow. But for me I'd rather have a yellow henry in today's Times 😊 Nicely done though Sam! Hello peanut and butter too!

Great video Sam! I wonder if they introduced the two belt pully system when they started ramping up the wattage of the cleaners so the brushroll ran at a slightly slower RPM? 🤔

This is what I had heard (although I can’t remember where) what is the benefit of a slower brush roll? Also, if the brush roll is jammed, the belts just slip off instead of breaking

yeah I can’t remember where I heard it either 🤔 I’m sure I saw someone say on a forum years ago that the brushroll with the beater pads which this yellow one has worked better at beating the grit out of the carpet at a slower RPM or something which could be why they did it? Because when production moved to china I think around early 2004 the brushroll changed to a thin brushroll with long bristles and no beater pads and that’s when the two belt pulley (I think) disappeared. I have a 2003 1700watt U3470 with the activator brushroll and the two belt pulley and then a late 2004 1700watt U3470 with the thin brushroll which just has a single belt. Oddly enough though my 2001 1300watt U3330 has a single belt, so it seems the didn’t have the pulley then introduced it and then stopped doing it again all in the space of a few years. Maybe it was just a case of Hoover doing whatever they fancied without any real rhyme or reason 🤣 I didn’t realise that about the belts slipping off rather than snapping so that’s really handy!

@@shaunmarsden4825 wouldn’t let me tag you in that one😊

@@shaunmarsden4825 A faster brush roll can melt the fibres of synthetic carpets through the friction created when sweeping, as well as wearing out the bristles faster. As always, it's a case of it needing to spin fast "enough" to do the job (same as "enough" suction is all thay's needed to clean), but of course the $6million question is always "what is enough"?

The 2 belt system would have been a better idea to have carried on, as shorter belts suffer less from stretching as they age and thus would help prevent brushroll stalling on longer pile carpet, which becomes an issue on the single belt version of these machines. As well as that, the later models had a less aggressive brushroll, without the beater pads, so could have been easier for the single belt to turn, not sure if that was the reason for the 2 belts initially, the TP2 style brushroll may need more power to turn it on deep pile carpet? Later models had thinner diameter brushrolls with longer bristles and no beater pads. I have a year 2000 built U3330 - just checked it and it has a red brushroll with red long bristles, although I think that may not be the original one for that machine, and it has a single belt design. I must say though Sam, it looks gorgeous in that colour and you did a great job with it ( apart from losing the belt guide felt pad, lol - which seems to have been noted by others ), but I dont think that felt pad is too vital - it just stops dust getting into the belt chamber as far as I know.

I don't think the pulley system is a case of an original design though - looks like something Hoover trialed on certain models, looking at the different belts on sale online, for different models. I'll post a comment on this thread.

Awesome vid sam....but you hoovered up what looked like one of the felt seals from near the belt bit. I'm sure your be able to retrieve it fingers crossed 🤞
