Hoover U2784 Turbopower Boost Autoflex Motor Replacement & Demo

I bought this top of the range Hoover Turbopower U2784 from a seller on eBay Germany a few years ago. It's in great condition but the motor sounded rough, so in this video I fit a new motor and demonstrate it.

Bak in the 90s I had the U2880 Turbopower 3 Autosense Permabag in that Lagoon Green Metallic colour - bought it brand new. Lovely machine, wish I still had it. Must say though, I think the TP1 looks really classy in that colour scheme, and with what you've done to it, it runs really well now too. I think the year of those hits on your Ceefax jumper was Christmas 1985, as that was the year the Pet Shop Boys had their first hit with West End Girls.

That's a bearing problem for sure - not uncommon on these motors. There are two things about this cleaner - one, it was built for non-UK market and yet still has the royal warrant on it (that wasn't always the case, in fact I was fairly certain only the UK cleaners had the warrant), and two, although it's a "boost" cleaner, it has two fixed speed positions, as opposed one fixed and one spring-loaded that had to be held in by the user in order to obtain boosted power. I never liked those cleaners at all, because I reasoned you'd probably need the boost the most when using the tools, which is going to be ever so awkward to do, if the switch needs to be held with one hand, leaving only the other free to do the cleaning.

It looks gorgeous. Even the metallic finish looks new. I love it. Next time will be a Cadillac 🎉🎉 this Hoover sounds like a V8 you well there will be a Jaguar but same thing it’s a V8 vacuum cleaner.

It's a good vacuum cleaner but I didn't like horrible sound but I like it when you put a new motor bearings and it sounds alot better and that's want Hoover turbopower 1s should sound like

It sounds like dry motor bearings, replacing them would fix it and cost less than a new motor, you’d have to buy a set of bearing pullers to remove them

You can't always find new motors, and it's a waste of a perfectly good motor. When you collect old vacuums you have to know how to repair them or you will end up with 0. Nobody will fix them anymore at any shop, and there are no parts. Take any vacuum older than 20 years into a vacuum shop (if you can find one) and they will laugh you out the door and tell you to go buy a new $300 Shark. If you don't know how to repair them when they break, you will quickly be left with nothing at all. Skills are important. @@ibaisaic

The bearings depend on what is in the vacuum and if they actually need to be replaced. Most times they just need to be flushed and de-greased and get fresh grease in there. Some will take oil and not grease. It all depends. Severe cases you will need to replace the entire bearing because they are too worn to function. Bearing pullers can be found in auto parts stores. However skateboard bearings are very similar to vacuum cleaner bearings so a bearing puller for skateboards would likely suit you better than an automotive one. @@Leoturner2009
