@@in4theride75 It's a bit more complicated than that. Ridgid as a brand is owned by Ridge Tool Company which is a subsidiary of Emerson, but Emerson has a partnership agreement where TTI makes tools under the Ridgid brand. Not sure if the particular vacuum Louis shows falls under that agreement, but a lot of Ridgid products are actually TTI products, especially their power tools.

Bro.... You can post a comment like this while I'm eating!😂 Your comment also makes me sad because this is the most important point that I forgot to include in this video, and it directly relates to piracy. When you act legitimately and want to do the right thing, that's when you get screwed. With piracy, you get better treatment than you do if you were doing things properly. My mother had no chill. When I was a kid, she would, instead of go through this warranty process, purchase another one of the toy from Toys R Us, put the old toy that was broken in the box, and then return it. Her idea was that the person at the front counter that made $4 an hour was not going to go out of their way to inspect everything, because they make nothing, and that this would save her the one to three hours of back and forth trying to have a legitimate warranty claim. Let's say I had bought another one of this product, put the old one in the box, and returned it to the store. I would have a new product the same day. It is only when I decide that I want to do things properly, legitimately, and honestly, that I get screwed. The same is true with piracy, and the same is becoming true with everything. There is a saying for when you punish people for doing the right thing; when it would be easier for them with no repercussions and no downsides to do the wrong thing. People are creatures of habit. They don't do one thing in one part of their life and then turn it off in another part of their life. Is it a good idea to condition society to believe that being honest, doing the right thing, and following the results will consistently result in a shittier outcome?

It has often been commented that I would comment on the style amd wording of questions on exam sheets, instead of just solving them. This whole destroying the device thing sounds a lot like when Amazon sent me a special edition of a game, the figure was broken, they told me to throw it out then they sent a replacement- CHARGED ME A WEEK LATER. I had to call them up and ask WTF is going on "You didn't return the product" the person told me to destroy it. It's in a garbage bin. "They told you to destroy it?" Yes, in an email, I have it in writing "You shouldn't have destroyed it" Your customer service agent, told me, in writing, to destroy it. So either you're asking me to dig into my garbage for the figure and all the packaging because you're saying they lied in this email OR you're going to read what they said and say this is ok. "We're going to give you a one time pass on this." No, you're not. I did what I was told, and you're not trying to gaslight me retroactively. If you didn't want it destroyed, I shouldn't have been told to destroy it. You're the ones getting a one time pass because I don't need to buy games from you. IMO it was a pile of garbage and when it failed (just out of the warranty period) it was almost impossible to find the correct part to fix it (every "manufacturer's" model comes off the assembly line with a different incompatible firmware) and when, after a few weeks, I finally identified the correct part, it was out of stock. I remember listening to his calls, hear him just pass a call on without fully identifying the issue and thinking it was a bit funky, but hey, this guy is getting recognised. a month or two later, he was fired because his high daily calls were due to not taking calls properly. I got better at my calls overall, but this was because i stopped trying to hand over calls to the relevant team, meaning more people were repeating what they had originally told me, and likely a few situations of someone being passed between teams.

I was looking at car insurance. Filled out a quote form, before they give a price, I had to agree to a privacy policy. Reading the policy, they explicitly state they will sell off any data you enter to marketing firms. My car details, location, phone number, email etc, even if you don't get a policy with them. My neighbour filled out a power comparison form and 10 minutes later he had his current supplier ring him up to ask if he wanted to swap to them. He told them that he was changing away from them and to piss off. It looks like every company has discovered the value in selling off user data.

Louis does not work for Hoover. Louis owes Hoover zero labor time. Ergo, Louis does not have to cut power cords, and struggle to remove a label that was intentionally glued on with a strong adhesive, designed to prevent removal. As to the photos: There are people that cannot afford a camera (they can't even afford a smart phone). They can't afford internet access. And there are also people that do have the above, but are technically clueless -- they would not know how to take the photos and send them to Hoover. Hoover has a faulty part, and it is up to them to diagnose it. I have no problem with Hoover asking for photos, as most people will not have a problem with sending Hoover photos. But it must be a request, and not a demand. In the end, Hoover needs to service faulty parts, without putting customers to work as if the customers are employed by Hoover.
@rossmanngroup

For me, it's not even about being able to afford the internet, a phone, or a camera. It's about time. People that can afford all of these things do not have the time. They work ten hours a day. I smiled from ear to ear when you said you are a clean freak, my mom raised me that way and I work hard to keep my life comfortable neat and clean as possible :) . Your videos always stir me up and motivate me to not get stepped on or pushed over, not just with corporations/buisness but in life aswell, to stand by my morals and admire my knowledge, time and self worth!! The moment that resonated the most was when you explained your autism symptoms and how it influences your mind. It was such a powerful realization that echoed through my skull. I have very recently (last semester) after hitting my rock bottom, have opened the floodgates to the entire mental health including being hospitalized, acceptance, diagnoses, therapy, a shit ton of meds, and a new perspective on life. It was truly like drinking from a firehose but after lots of patience and dedication I can confidently say that I am feeling vastly better and happier than ever before with steady work towards maintaining my LIFE/school balance, making unforgettable memories and connections, and prioritizing my mental health. Now I write all this as sort of a tangent and I honestly kinda just got zoned into the lore dump and forgot about my main point, but there is a big connection. I have been settling back into my routine nicely, however a massive growing challenge I have been struggling with is my intense burning urge to fall into and getting absorbed into these same rabbit holes exactly like you described. Mine are mostly mega nerdy electronics and technology ones that totally engross me such as dumping, and disassembling and fixing the firmware of a faulty IC that is at the end of support yet mfg doesnt give a damn to fix (hilariously the device was a logic analyzer), or getting caught up for weeks trying to root my Samsung Note 10+ i bought specifically to root, after jumping through so many hoops and bullshit aswell as being inches away from tripping the e fuse and bricking the phone multiple times and looking at dozens of methods and guides leaving with so much unknown and left to speculation, but ofc when I look to reddit for help theres always that smooth brained corpo glazer that says ohhh you should have researched what you bought before, or it is your fault you should have known it was bootlocked AND is the first model to have no exploit into the bootloader to this day AND rollback protected AND is only bootlocked in the US model. Its wild how the only athletics these ppl have done is the crazy mental gymnastics in trying to make me regret and admit my own fault for expecting be able to own my shit Not anymore, not after watching your apple cult video (another great vid btw) I realize how crucial it is to stay true to my values and not let my genuine experiences be twisted. After a bit more back and forth I admitted it was a lost cause and was futile to fight this battle in a jungle against an unknown concealed enemy, having to be so precise and careful just to end up stepping on a god damn land mine 🤣. It pains me to say but it truly does feel that way with these some of these mega corporations, so unfathomably wealthy and powerful, sitting on thrones built off insane greed, exploitation and corruption that they transcend the bounds of any sort of law or regulation, governments, economies, humanity, society, environment, and the planet. While the odds seem utterly impossible, I like to think that people as dedicated and genuine as you are truly the pillars that allow us to join together and rise up face to face with the corpo scum ;) . Anyway, the reason why I decided to comment was to ask for advice in managing my silly urge to get super passionate and hyper fixated on something and most importantly the rabbit shaped hole in my brain 😆. Theres definitely some screws loose I ended up going on like 3 rabbit holes and fought many more in just writing this comment, but then again it was my first time commenting in a few years so i had a lot to say. thx for anyone reading my comment it was genuine and heartfelt and therapeutic to express myself, but also a nice way to yell and complain at the clouds🙃. Anytime I have purchased a mouse, I have ripped it out of the box like AvE opens the box to a blender, thrown it away, plugged it in, and started using it as a mouse. I never realized that mice came with software. Or that they could even have software. If I plug the mouse into the computer and it works, I have no reason to do anything else or look for software or look around the box for any reason. I use Linux with XFCE. Rigid vacuums are very much the low end of commercial vacuums. They are definitely better than residential vacuums, but they have inherent flaws in their design that makes sense them annoying to use. A few examples: • The top doesn't stay sealed if you lift the vacuum while it’s running • The motor cooling air comes from the vacuum stream which exposes it to a lot of dust after filter changes or if you accidentally leave the filter off (like if you put it away after using as a wet vac) • The filter is a pop-off style that shakes dust off when you remove it causing it to get behind the filter and in the air vs an unscrewable cap. • The HEPA filter doesn't have a removable prefilter and so gets clogged prematurely

This reminds me of a recent recall issue with the Yoto Mini player, a kids audio device. They had a safety issue where it could overheat and put it at risk of fire, and their fix wasn't to recall the defective unit, it was to send out a replacement charging cord that would prevent the issue by limiting power draw or something like that. This floored me, because for one, it's a basic USB-C charging cord. Anyone with multiple tech products lying around has piles of charging cables and will regularly interchange them (even if you maybe shouldn't). If the unit could catch fire from using the wrong usb charging cable, then the fault is in the unit, not the cable. Secondly, they required proof that we had destroyed the old cable before they could send a new one, to prove that you can't accidentally use the unsafe one. Well we lost our original cable, but we do have a dozen more just like it. So I can't claim the safety recall on this product. I guess we just can't use it anymore and are SOL? People on their forums and subreddit defended the company saying that it would cost them too much to replace the whole unit and might run them out of business, and then no one gets to use the product, so it's fine if they half ass a safety solution. But at the very least why can't they send a new cord if I just say I lost the old one?

Now that was a funny video especially at 24.00 when you went off. It’s people like you that get things fixed. So many companies these days are trading on the name while running it into the ground and once people wake up to this and stop buying the product it’s simply closed down and becomes a tax write off for them.

Good rant; so sick of passing the buck, straight to the landfill, unintelligent 'customer service' and corporate shenanigans. Friend of this commenter now speaking: I've proudly run a repair service since 1978, earned the right to represent every major vacuum manufacturer who sells in the USA. The first time we were ordered to cut the cord on a unit needing minor repair, toss the unit into our dumpster and give the customer a whole new unit I was furious. If the company wanted to replace a three hundred fifty dollar unit rather than pay us $10.00 and reimburse for a 50 cent part, that was their business. But to deprive a poor family of the chance to get a workable unit for a few bucks rather than buy new, was despicable. No wonder our landfills are filled with workable devices!

Edit: I got too excited with the commas, enjoy run-on support sentence: Forgot to add, I have been an independent auto repair shop worker for years, even my dumbass bosses weren’t aware that right to repair is so important, I explained it to them and made sure to have printed out Right to Repair Flags posted everywhere in the shop, and preached to every customer, keep up the good fight, if you ever start a class against any company, sign me up! Keep at it man, I know it drives you nuts but you are the most important guy on KZbin provided the most real-life value to everyone here. Also, I have the exact same shop vac, I love that thing, if it’s the same as mine (looks like it and was $89), it came with several useful attachments, and if you take the motor off the top, and turn it around it is designed to be and comes with a leaf blower attachment, 2 in 1 amazing! 10/10

I purchased an electric recliner meant for nursing, and the one I received came with some rust underneath and two left arms - minor assembly was required. The company told me to use sharpie to draw an X on all pieces, draw VOID on the manual, take pictures of all, and then throw out the old chair before they would replace it. I am not throwing out a $2000 electric chair that they messed up the parts on. One piece of black fabric marking chalk later, I have a working chair and a chair without arms.

I had a Hoover carpet cleaner. It was all but impossible to clean well enough that it did not stink. It worked well, but there were some passages that I could not get clean. Because of this and having 4 cats and 2 dogs, I bought a commercial machine, a Bissell Big Green. It is much easier to clean out and holds a lot more cleaning fluid than the Hoover did. I would recommend it if you have a landing where you can put the machine (the hose will not reach all the way up a normal staircase.

My mom just bought a new carpet scrubber the other day, I don’t think people realize how many of these cheap plastic things any family with pets will go through in a decade. I think this is the 3rd or 4th ($100-$175) bissel or Hoover, and each one has felt less and less durable out of the box. Idk, I appreciate this section, it’s certainly not fancy but I think it likely applies to a lot more people than we realize. Spending $400-$500 for the next tier of product is just too much for the average family to afford, and these companies realize this

Another awful company that I dealt with years ago was the people who made the Magic Bullet blenders. The blender uses a soft rubber part that engages the rotor and wears out quickly under normal use. I contacted them to BUY (not warranty claim) a new replacement part and they made me jump through hoops (take pictures of the blender here, there, everywhere, and proof of purchase) just for the privilege of able to pay for a new part. Since then, I have bought blades from yard sales, 3rd party etc. Never wanted to deal with them again.

Bravo Louis, great video. One of many companies and businesses that scam the public on an ongoing basis. I am sure there are millions of similar stories at this time, of similar lunicies. It would appear that some of the more agregise companies and businesses have a great need to be made an example of, and brought to the publics attention. On the subject of warranty calling (your method and GN's Steve), it's good that we get to see both methods in action. As a fun mention, GN had its one non-undercover warranty that turned out into a massive piece of work when he got screwed by NewEgg's RMA process. So maybe it's true that we don't need any undercover acts, but out of caution it is good to have that. LTT does the same from time to time to test OEMs and SIs.

Going for industrial grade equipment is the best choice available. Recently my mother needed a new ultrasonic nebulizer (medical device) after the old one from 25+ years ago broke (not feasible to repair). She looked into the consumer and industrial versions, and decided to go with an industrial one. Bought it brand new, very recent model. When we opened it, we found a bag with spare parts (fuses and a spare ultrasonic speaker), and in the instruction manual a full circuit diagram (showing values of all the components) and instructions on replacing the speaker (along with calibration details and specifications). Clearly the product is designed to outlast the original speaker and is user repairable. Also it does not come with an app (control is with a couple of turn knobs and a switch).

My parents still have my grandparents' commercial grade Simplicity bagged vacuum. That thing has enough suction to move on its own. Louis uses a Ridgid, which is a shop vac, a hard floor cleaner made primarily for picking up dust and shop debris. I've used similar before, and they will last a lifetime if maintained. That said, they do not work all that well on medium to high pile carpet. And, they could scratch your wooden floors.

I recently got a recall notice on bisell steam shot and reading the recall remedy instructions, they expect you to cut the cord and remove the label take a picture and send it to them for either A: 60$ credit for a new bisell product or B: $40 dollars cash back. The steamer costs ~80$, at that point why would I want to get rid of it and take a loss. I was disappointed there was no parts fix or repair option.
