Hoover twin tub washing machines were very popular in Australia during the 1970s until they stopped making them back in the 1990s!!

When I was really little my grandma had one of these except it had blue trim. The thing shrieked like a bloody jet engine when it spun. It's astounding what one will watch in the middle of the night. Oh well greetings from Vancouver!

Happy memories with these kinda machines. remember as a kid in the kitchen with gran using one of these. odd times pipes would fall out of sink or fling up from machine. big spray of water. then a shriek. lots of cursing and the mop bucket close by .

i worked for hoover for 20 years,this is not a uk model in uk it was called the 3314Ldif colour dif knobs but same machine,very simple to repair pulsator driven by belt,spin motor insulated by 3 rubber feet,pump belt rubber ,it could be yellow or blue,depending on model,spin drive belt "v" shaped it had a habit of breaking the mount under the spin can,it was called the resilent bearing,easy job to repair

Great video. I've just recently scored a HooverMatic Deluxe model 3316, made under license by Fisher and Paykel New Zealand ltd from Hoover U.K. I have no idea how old it is but it still works really well "auto rinse" and all. Like yours it also has no heater.

I saw one of these for sale at a local second hand/bargain store... it was a mustard color and I was SO tempted to buy it ($50 and it said it ran!)- although I'm sure my husband would think I was off my rocker if I had purchased it :)

@jaredini Hey Thanks for your comment. I filled it up to the fill line on the wash side with water, I found if you dont use enough it wont move the clothe around. I found this machine at a Garage sale was told it was broken paid $30 for it and it had a Nail in the pump - easy fixed. I am in New Zealand so I suppose this would be an australian model I will look and let you know Andrew

I used one of these for a short time - small capacity! If you put too much laundry in, it wouldn't agitate.

I think these ones are better and better than the new toploaders and front loaders.Because these machines let the water pass through the clothes,so the clothes get cleaner very quickly and properly than the new machines do.New machines just make the clothes turn in the dirty water.

Very similar to the English version of the hoovermatic deluxe twin tub the obvious difference is no heater in the wash tub and no auto rinse nozzle built in under the spin dryer lid

Was there a reason it didn't have a cover for the washtub or is it just off for the video?
@robynw63078 жыл бұрын
Interesting. Have never seen one in action before. But it sure ties you to the laundry while washing. I'd rather be able to go do other things during the cycle.

+Robyn Webster They only take about an hour to do a whole weeks washing against two hours for one load in an automatic. You rinse and spin one load whilst another load is washing. They get things cleaner than an automatic..

auto rinse was a laugh ,a pressure switch fitted to the spin tub,you put hose onto the tap and let it fill the tub,when the right level was reached,the pressure switch turn the motor on and the pump too

Too many pet peeves for me... Don't get me wrong... I absolutely love the twin tub washer.... But... it's just I'd use it differently... I cringed when i saw the lint plopping into the wash tub from the spin dryer.. I just couldn't put more clothes in with that.. Nor re-use dirty water to clean clothes. ? for me it's wash in wash tub drain that water man.. It's DIRTY... spin ... Then, rinse in wash tub... drain and spin... I can't imagine just spin rinsing is getting all the suds out of the deep fibers... The clothes needs to agitate and move around in the water which brings the soap out of the meterial.. same for using softner... For me... the clothes must go In the washtub for a softener rinse.. so the clothes agitate and the softener gets in deep into the fibers of the clothes... otherwise if you add the softener in the spin tub... i would think that the softener is just flowing over the top and outside of the meterial of the clothes and just rinsing away.. Idk... Maybe I'm wrong..

Inconvenient and sloppy. I'll stick to my top loading automatic single tub model
