R53 is a great track car. Just have to ditch the stock wheels for some light weight 15s. I have an mc40 as well and my track tires and wheels are 15 pounds lighter each or 60 lbs in total. Night and day difference.

Upgrade your charge pipe and you won’t have these problems. no shit 400+ horsepower in the n54s blows the stock chargepipe off instantly, same with the slightly upgraded vrsf, get an aluminum one. No more problems.

To be fair, the boost pipe wasn't a factory part. (I'm assuming it was replaced as part of the mods the previous owner did).

If you’re going to be tracking the 135 on a regular basis, you may want to look into having the front brake calipers rebuilt with new pistons and dust boots. The original pistons have a ceramic cap that faces the brake pads - the ceramic breaks down with heavy heat cycling. The dust boots also melt. Rebuild the calipers with Stoptech pistons and dust boots.

I know the reason for the breakdowns. The BMW engines miss the 102 octane in Germany 😉

@@Motorsportsgeek. Several months ago, I commented (on another YT video) that both BMW & Mercedes are continuing to survive in the automotive marketplace by living off of their PAST reputations (from 20-25+ years ago) for building quality vehicles. Their later/newer model cars are over-priced, hyper-computerized pieces of plasticized junk! The BMW & MB "groupies" tried to come for me. 😅😅😅

I'd say the BMW was pretty reliable if a hose clamp was the most of your issues LOL.
@spicysnowman88862 жыл бұрын
BMW uses the stupidest hose clamp design I've ever seen, everybody just uses the standard ones you can get at home depot.

I was at Heartland Friday and saw Elliot filming a bit on the white Camaro, didn’t see Tyler at the time. I’m a driver coach and I had clients running their cars so I was a bit busy! Good fun though, great to see your cars out there.

Common problem on these Minis, you could see it was ready to break when they pulled it out, but like morons they put it back in and then it broke off.

128i was the last true BMW. The 135i is an amazing car that shows how much the tech makes a difference. It is a ton of fun stock and amazing with bolt ons. I’d still take the 28 though. Won’t go as fast but the analog feel is why we fell in love with the Bavarian car back in the 80s.

If you are planning on using the 135i as a dedicated track car, do yourself a favour and pickup a set of Nankang AR-1 semis for it. For people that aren't racing for sheep stations they give fantastic performance for a lot less than A050s
the n54 is actually pretty great... Pulling boost because you didn't replace all of your coils so you are getting misfires [ which you ignore ]. Or might be bad fuel send. The old index coils known to be defective [ BMW should have recalled them along with the turbos for the rattle ]. But I digress. The engine is pretty good at protecting itself from damage. Which allows you to hammer on it for longer more worry free... I've got 170k miles on my n54 with no issues. I am pretty hard on it. I do hill climbs at WOT at excess temps... I AM at stock power though. Deciding whether to go N55 for more power or mod this car.

Do you still have the PMR van? If so, I'd still love to have it. But you totally should have taken it out to the track. Maybe see if you could run it solo though so hopefully no damage to it. Looked fun though. I'd love to take my neon to a track like this. Maybe see if there is one here in middle TN.

In addition to the supercharger by-pass valve, be sure to have the crankshaft balancer pulley checked on the Mini. They fall apart and will cause the same P1688 and limp mode.
