What a sweet car, I love it. Aside from the entertainment value of this video, it's a great example of why old tires are dangerous. I recently made an offer on a classic car and deducted $800 from valuation because the tires were 25 years old, and the seller took that as an insult because the tread still looked OK. He was oblivious to the danger. They were not original tires and the car was not collectible, so there was no upside to having old expired tires. It was 100% a risk/expense being passed on to the buyer.
@justsomerandomguy42692 жыл бұрын
My 1995 Audi A6 has tires from 2014. They were fine for 2 roadtrips but as soon as the car is out of winter storage I’m buying new tires for it. Can’t blame the original owner for not putting new tires on it. He spent almost 2.5k on the car to make sure it wasn’t gonna get scrapped so another 600+ just for tires would have been a little excessive. And since this is my first car and I plan to keep it as nice as the original owner kept it I gotta invest money in quality tires. Not gonna risk a major blowout on my baby. (Yes a car I paid 3k for is my baby, I absolutely love that car despite me being able to afford a better one)
@skaughtmc65912 жыл бұрын
Yep, I picked up an 02 Z06 last year with 15 yo tires. They were rock hard and useless. They’d break traction at half throttle through the first 3 gears. Just because a tire has tread doesn’t mean they’re still good.
@OMGWTFLOLSMH2 жыл бұрын
My 07 Fit still has the original tires on it with 36k kms (22k miles). I rarely drive it, only on fairweather summer days, it stays in the garage all winter. The tires are OK on dry roads but lousy in the wet, of course. Lots of tread and no age cracks but the rubber is hard now and not safe when it rains. It's time to change them.

@@tnickknight ...They never broke all the time,you must have owned junkers with 300,000 beat on miles! Mine never left me stranded! I grew up with my parents owning these cars..We were never left stranded,they started good in hot/cold weather..Never overheated etc.. I drove 60's early 70's Mopars until 2002 as daily drivers! Late 80's to 2002! I put 160,000 miles on my 68 Charger RT 440 and it had 175,000 when I bought it in 1986 from the original owner..In 1994 I fixed the car to like new/still own it..I drove that car 7 years off/on also owned at the time a 1973 Cuda 340 and others I bought and sold...I drove just about every type of Mopar from 66-79 as daily drivers and commuted 90 miles per day! I owned just about every model from that era and engines! Never was left stranded.. My Dad has a 70 Cuda 440 6bbl he bought new and it never broke at all that car had 260,000 miles in 1983,he restored it and now has 300,000 albeit odometer shows just under12,800 as of yesterday,and looks like a 12,000 mile original car...He also owned a new 1967 Polara 500 383 4bbl that had roughly 200,000 miles,it went over the 99,999 twice..at 200,000 the bottom end was knocking,sounded like a exhaust leak/most people sold old cars with so called exhaust leaks/do a compression test you will be down! Car still ran/drove good..but smoked a little..Only reason the had that issue at 200,000 Dad loved to floor it from a stop and the rear tires burned rubber for 80 feet/no brake holding with a stock 383 hp 4bbl/3.23 axle ratio..He owned many more new and used.. Only issues water pump,but they leak for awhile before they fail..You see the water pump issue you replace it..Points also last long time,but tune up once a year keeps everything good..If you bought aftermarket fuel pumps some would fail earlier than originals..But everything was easy to change..Fuel pump a 15 minute job! Water pump less than 2 hours with a/c..this was all well after 120,000 miles.. Other items that fail are just like any car ever built,it gets old/used some items fail,but these are reliable.. Remember used cars are used cars...Even a 4 year old 30,000 mile car today can be a nightmare! You dont know how they drove or what they did to it..I restore classic cars,buy/sell them since the 90's.. Remember I drove 90 miles in these round trip to/from my shop..In 2002 I bought a new truck to pick cars up across country..I used to tow with my 66 New Yorker,it handled towing my classic cars,parts for years..But my then new 2002 V-10 Dodge 2500 did better as higher tow rating.(truck long gone)..

@@01trsmar nice story,. I lived in the ear and remember it well. The facts tell a different story. American junk would barely sell even with massive massive giveaways, as the Japanese came in an could not make cars fast enough. You could literally often not give away most 70s cars other than to the junker. They are cool now because parts are cheap, newer parts are better, and they tend not to be driven that much. Nostalgia won't change reality , thankfully American manufacturing woke up, and started changing or there would have been no industry left. But nice story ,. Jump in your old car and make vroom vroom

I bought a used 1994 Ford Ranger 2 years ago and even though I had bought new tires for it right after I bought it I got a flat once and we were 50 miles from the nearest town, at night at midnight and no one had driven past us on the road for 2 hours, and none of the tow truck companies would respond and we didn't have AAA. I had no choice but to try to drive on the original factory spare even though by then it was a 26 year old tire. But I was half way smart and I restricted myself to driving a max of 40-45 mph on the way home. I did make it home. I just went slow and I was super careful. However as soon as I got back into the big city I went with mother's truck the next morning to find a good used tire that was only 1 year old and had a tire shop swap that into the old `94 ranger for the spare now.

I noticed you also have the rear defogger and AM/FM radio. This car is quite well equipped. You might have found "the cheapest" but by no means is this a cheap Charger. Many sought after, low production options were checked when this car was ordered. Oh BTW Tyler, you don't need to convert the brakes to disc - just ask Wizard, drums are fine so long as they're properly set up. That means good brake lines, good master cylinder, clean fresh fluid every 2 years, and all brakes properly adjusted. Old school mechanics know how to calibrate and adjust 4 wheel drum brakes properly and by the time they're done they'll have you going through the front window when you hit the brakes and stopping just as well as a modern 4 wheel disc Camaro. The drawback on drums is that they can get hot after repeated hard use. Don't drive like you're in the Coca Cola 600 and you'll be fine.
@plektosgaming2 жыл бұрын
They also need to be checked every 6 months or so, but it's rare that these cars, even when new, weren't in the shop for a part or oil change or something that often. It's when you neglect them and assume they are good.. for years and years.. that things get unpleasant.

1968 is by far my favorite year for the Dodge Charger, and the Mopar B body cars in general. The 1968 is the only year with the small round side markers, and the dual round tail lights. So I'm really glad to see this car on Hoovie's channel. I really hope to see more of it. Also, it was great to see Hoovie and Freddy talking mostly friendly. I love the Cartrek series a lot, but both Ed and Hoovie really rag on Freddy at times, and I really enjoy all three so much, so it's good to see them on good terms. The Fast & Furious send off was super touching.

Nothing wrong with properly adjusted drum brakes... they worked just fine for years. I drove my 68 with them and it stopped as good as my cars with disc brakes. Move the battery back under the hood, no reason for it to be in the trunk.

Very bad idea, could have been worse, could have shredded the quarter panel. I deal with a lot of low mile corvettes, a number of which have has quarter panels torn off when a tire band broke. First thing to do when thinking about driving a car which has tires older than 7 years is REPLACE THE TIRES.

GEAR VENDORS make an awesome overdrive add-on for the TORQUEFLITE A727/A904 3-SPEED transmission. A little pricey @ $2,895.00 but probibly the best thing that you can do to any old Muscle car or even a full blown drag car if you plan on driving it on the street. Quite a few people on Rot Rod Power Tour run them.

I really like Freddie, and I sure wish he would go back to making videos where he, himself, was building the cars. Not that his other friends aren’t competent mechanics, but it’s his personality while wrenching that brought me to his channel. This video was fun watching him help Hoovie do som actual work.

I cannot put into words the desire i have for a 68 Charger, and in the color combo that ive always dreamed of. Can you let me know when you are ready to sell?? The Charger was introduced during the 1966 model year. It featured a two-door fastback body design and a four bucket seat interior. The intermediate-sized Charger shared components with the Coronet that also used the Chrysler B platform. The Barracuda was built. The first-generation Barracuda was based on the Chrysler A-body and was offered from 1964 to 1966. A two-door hardtop (no B-pillar) fastback design, it shared a great majority of parts and bodywork with the Plymouth Valiant, except for the huge and distinctive wraparound rear glass.

Gives new meaning to, "Watch till the end!" I cried, I laughed. I booed and I cheered. It was a life changing event. But seriously, the car took me back to 1968 when my oldest brother showed off his new triple black Charger 440 4 speed to dad. Never was a fan of Chrysler but that was a beautiful car. Still is.

I owned and drove a '69 Charger R/T auto in high school in the very end of the 80's. It was such a blast. Mine was the B5 blue with a black vinyl top. The sound of that 440 idling with the Hooker headers and Thrush glass packs was heavenly then the guttural growl when you floored it was just just just amazing. Like an angry angel singing. I didn't know how lucky I was. I took it apart after high school to restore it and ended up selling it in 1995 for a down payment for a new house. It makes me sad that I will never have one again because I have been priced out.....I would have to sell my 1 owner 1995 Supra TT to afford the Charger.......

I love this color. I had a 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme SX in that color on the exterior and interior with black vinyl top. It had a 455, Auto transmission and 4 barrel carburetor. I had no idea what was worth and ran it into the ground racing on the street.
