Im a former Land Rover tech, I can tell you that those are the best rovers of that generation, the timing issues were usually solved during the warranty period they don’t have the common engine coolant outlet pipe failure or the rear coolant manifold failure which will take out the engine (these engines do not like overheating). The suspension stuff gets pricey if the hydraulic dynamic suspension or the air struts start to leak, and even then AB and lucky 8 have pretty much everything for them. I’ve done so many I literally can work on them blindfolded. Hoovie did steal this thing, good job buddy! Gooooood job!

This was EXACTLY my vehicle until I wrecked it when someone ran a red light. Drove well over 60k miles and driven to both ends of the country. The only actual issue I had was the power steering wheel controls went out and had to be replaced. If you take care of your Range Rover it will last. Don't get in a wreck or the cost to repair far outweighs totaling it out like I had to. My family and I absolutely love this vehicle and if you plan on selling it I legitimately am interested. I have a 2009 Rang Rover Sport (non supercharged) and it's been extremely reliable (160k miles). Only work I've had to do is replace the air suspension with Arnott air bags which was only $600 and took me 2 hours to do all four corners, all four brake rotors and pads which took about 10 minutes per side after taking the wheels off, and the front hood latch which was $18 and took 5 minutes since the alarm kept going off. Otherwise the car has been great, no check engine lights or other weird electrical gremlins. I guess sometimes you just get lucky with Range Rovers and sometimes they're money pits. I've also learned that dealers and independent mechanics wayyyy overcharge for work on these, most stuff is extremely simple and they charge for hours of labor on jobs that take no time at all. The air suspension was only 4 easily accessible nuts on each air bag and took less than 30 minutes to get them out and put a new one in. Local shop wanted $1600 to do the job that only took me 2 hours having never done it before.

Is it the 4.2L? Those were significantly more reliable than the 5.0 that Hoovie has. The 2010-2011 5.0L had similar timing chain issues as the old 4.0Ls from 97-02. Still this motor is considered quite reliable even compared against other car brands. The drivetrain is one of the most reliable parts on this LR as long as those timing chain tensioners don't go out.

Several years ago one of my closest friends bought a “certified” Range Rover from a Dealership. To this day it was the nicest riding, most comfortable SUV I’ve ever been in. It was beautiful. We took it on a long test drive including a little light off roading (basically an unpaved road). I came away impressed and completely understood the Range Rover mystique after. Unfortunately that trip was only one of three he made in it before it ended up in a series of shops and was eventually deemed “unrepairable”.

Hi Tyler, here are some surprises 😊 This Sport is actually based on the LR3. Chassis, suspension, etc are all the same. You will also find that this Sport is actually heavier than your newer, bigger, Range Rover. This one has a steel ladder chassis with a monocoque on top, while your other RR is a single aluminum monocoque. I think about 300kg difference. Clunking in suspension are 99% always the front lower or rear top suspension arms, the rubber bushings at chassis side are fluid filled and will leak out the fluid and start clunking. You can replace the bushings alone, but labor to get them in and out is more expensive than replacing the entire arm. Oh, and to keep your suspension compressor happy, replace the air dryer before it cloggs up. 99% of compressor failures are due to air dryer blocking air from getting into the compressor. Good luck! 😊

i own one right now (2012). it’s at 110k mi… literally the most reliable car i’ve owned so far. i’ve owned 2 MB GLs. a 2010 GL350 (i know don’t judge me i sold it luckily) a nightmare, a 2013 GL450… wasn’t THAT bad actually, but i had to replace the entire suspension, and now i currently own a 2013 GL550 and i knew what i was getting myself into because of the 450 being the same exact chassis. since owning the RR sport all i had to replace was lower control arms and normal maintenance. that’s it. i am waiting on the timing chain issue, but other than that, SOLID. no other suspension issues what’s so ever. i was even shocked (no pun intended) 😵‍💫

@@richardrace237 the Germans are on par or even better in tech and although they can also be unreliable, they’re nowhere near as bad as rovers and are more likely to be trouble free, at least until the warranty period. Many people can afford a used rovers maintenance initially but go broke with how damn frequently its components fail, they’re notoriously known as the most unreliable globally for a reason and you’re better off with a German competitor new or used than this. In fact I was even interested in one a while ago with a 3 year old Range Rover and while it drove ok, it was already squatting near the front and needed new air suspension. Great cars when new, sell it as soon as it’s out of warranty or better off leasing.

I have the same car, same model, I love it. The timing chains were already done with the updated kit. The front end knock is something you might have to get used to. I also replaced both front lower control arms, but it is actually the nature of the hydrolic active rollbar that is a bit noisy. It is called hydrolic nock, same as you can get in your house water system 😁 If the control arm, sway bar bushes and drop links are OK, then the hydrolic nock is surely the issue. Good luck and enjoy.

The L320 series was actually a big step forward in reliability from prior Land Rovers and Range Rovers as its underpinnings were entirely Discovery/LR3/LR4, meaning not the most unreliable Range Rover ever, but hey, the title gets views I totally get it. Most of the issues they have are as common as a Honda Accord or any other normal car like sensors or AC compressors, unless of course you count the air suspension and to be fair, every vehicle in this category with air suspension is going to have issues with time and use.

Anyone saying this is the most unreliable Range Rover (Sport) has never been around a P38 RR. Shorten the oil change interval on the AJ133 and it's a fantastic engine. I've had 3 LR4's and an L322 all with the AJ133, biggest issue was a coolant hose failure that cost $315 to fix at a shop. I won't ever give up Rovers for my daily drivers, for the little air suspension issues they're absolutely worth it. And that air suspension fault just needs a rebuild of the compressor if it's a Hitatchi which it should be in that year. $60 for the kit and it's all sorted!

Just picked up a 2011 Range Rover HSE LUX full size with 125k miles for $5000 (needs an alternator) and might pick up a 2011 Full size Autobiography with less miles for $2500 (jumped timing). They really are great cars for the money and if you get a good one or go ahead and do the coolant crossover pipes and water pump, the timing chains, and the control arms, they really can be reliable daily drivers. That said, there's plenty of these on facebook marketplace with blown engines from owners who never maintained them. There's a lot of people who did shorter oil change intervals than land rover's insane 15k mile intervals with higher mileage that have never had to do timing chains. $8500 is still a great price for an autobiography sport.

The 'more' expensive Rangeys came with a factory supplied picnic basket in the back. So you had something to do while you are sitting on the side of the road, waiting for the tow truck to show up. That's what the rubber mat in the rear you got so excited about was for - because you didn't want to get your backside wet sitting on the grass, when it invariably broke down on the wettest day of the year. If there's no leaks on a Rangey, its because there's no fluid left in the reservoir... Even a good looking dog is still a dog, Hoovie. Doesn't matter whether its a pedigree or a mongrel. Give the interior a scratch - it's sure to smell of lemon.
