When the Wizard was talking about "needing a spotter" for moving anything in the military it gave me flashbacks. I was a 2F051 (refueler) for 6 years (2006-2012) and we had to use a spotter to even move a military pickup truck 1". I mean it was such overkill and still never prevented accidents. Backing out was not the most dangerous part, its often squeezing through tight spaces with large vehicles and that is mostly when accidents occurred. I worked with the Army as well in a Platoon named AR4 (while still in the AirForce) in Honduras and we used hemtt's there, it surprised me how much the Army was about "looking good". They made us line up each vehicle in a perfect "dress right" line. This despite the fact they regularly neglected proper maintenance that in the Airforce we always kept up on. For us though, at least at my bases we never worried about lining up vehicles unless an important person was visiting. Even then it was not that big of a deal since we were constantly doing refuels and using the trucks.

Replaced the transmission at 133,000 miles (a known issue that GM ignored so I went with a Jasper which corrected those known issues), and aside from tires and brakes the truck has been great. Still has an amazing ride, look like new and have now hit 195,000 miles.

When I went to north western Kenya, there was a certain short wheelbase mid 1950’s Land Rover. The 4 cylinder engine was replaced with an inline 6 from a slightly newer land rover that had died, the radiator was too tall as it was from some random truck so the hood was tied down with wire, both front fenders had been torn off in off-road accidents and replaced with sections of steel from a 55 gallon oil drum, there was no grill and no place to mount headlights so my stepgrandfather welded on a bracket to the home made bumper, there were no functional hydraulic brakes so we used the handbrake (inconveniently placed between the drivers legs under he seat), there was no paint or interior to speak of just some home made or repurposed cushions, there was no windshield, and it was stuck in low range all wheel drive unless you constantly pulled up on the knob on the floor. But that was just fine for using it to haul gravel in a small trailer. And it still runs and drives probably to this day, although I only visited it in 2003. Maybe it’s the cheapest 1955 Land Rover in Kenya. I guess my point is, in remote parts of the world like Cuba or parts of Africa, you can get creative with engineering a repair with what you can scavenge up. It doesn’t have to be unsafe to drive, even if it looks like its been through hell all it’s life.

That mistake you identified, it would be called incorrect spelling. Grammar is a different thing. Thanks, tho. BTW, words are lexicon, and that ain't grammar either. There's a committee of ancient men called the grey beards who sit around and invent words for us to use, homie. No one else invents words, at not least not that we know of. To do so is a serious crime. A grammar is a system of rules which allow for the combination of those words into meaningful ideas.

@brentboswell12945 жыл бұрын
Given the state of the tailgate on that thing? I think not...Landcruisers may be good, but they're seriously overvalued by the Cult of Landcruiser in the USA...and their religious zealots here in the Pacific NW. Hoovie got off easy on the repair bill with the H2. Just lots of little things that were neglected by previous owners that add up to one huge repair bill when the state of neglect becomes obvious. Things like instrument cluster malfunctions tend to scare off casual old car owners, but it's old hat for anyone who owns a GM of the era, and if you don't involve the stealership, not too bad out of pocket. One wonders if someone took it into the nearest GM dealer and got scared away by a dealer quote involving lots of diagnostic time and diagnostic fees...this is where someone like the Wizard is great!
@umad425 жыл бұрын
Actually his Landcruiser was in great shape after he replaced the hatch. He even says several times that the undercarriage was in great shape. Of course I wouldn't ever buy it because huge number of miles on it, something's going to give, if I was Hoovie, I'd be hunting for an old truck to supplement his work truck. He needs something for dirty work, it's the only thing he doesn't have. The Hummer was not a great choice lol
