We are happy to welcome new farm-family members after a devastating loss of several animals this year. Just a short video to introduce you to future "cast members" here in the Hollow.

Just seeing this now Jeri, so rather late in commenting. Godfrey is absolutely adorable & I'm sure he's grown into a gorgeous boy! I am so so sorry for all the losses that you had to go through especially so many in such a short time. But now you have not only one darling that you've added but your new puppy as well who is truly the cutest thing ever!!!

I am sorry you had to put your Pyr down. Godfrey is so cute! He will grow up to love all his family and there is no better predator dog than Pyrs! I miss ours beyond belief! We've moved into town and don't have enough room for a Pyr but if we did, I'd have one in a heart beat! I've thought of adopting an older one. They are always around in the summer. They don't like the heat and will wander to find a cool place. You have a great spot for them with the stream and shade. That's awesome. I hope you all have a blessed and fruitful 2023! My brother and his lovely wife adopted a Great Pyrenees puppy named Bandit last year. They sent me a picture. I told them he looked more like Albert Einstein to me! He does! In thirty years together, this is their first animal. Bandit is a sweetie. So lovely to see open water this time of year. I hope to do a new design in my gardens this year. My daughter had a fox on her property and it got 3 of her chickens and all but 4 of her ducks. She was devastated because she cared so much for her birds. Your puppy is precious.

I learned the hard way, many years ago, when a fox devastated my chickens, at least 14 of them. That's when we got our first 2 Great Pyreness puppies

What an adorable new addition he’s already showing signs of intelligence. He was not at all bothered by the chickens just lay down. Sorry to hear about your other dogs. It’s so upsetting when they’ve been part of your family. Your new Muscovy ducks are sweet, my Aunt had a Muscovy duck but he was really grumpy and was like a guard duck he was called Hissing Sid! I am also in East TN. We had a bobcat come into the chicken yard in broad daylight and take our beautiful rooster, right in front of me! Never have we had that happen!

Oh Dang! We've never seen cougars here, thank goodness. Many yrs ago, before i had the dogs, a fox family of 3 would come into the yard in the daylight and go after my chickens. I was to the point of waiting for them with a shotgun aimed out the window, but never got one, just frightened them away. Our worst predators have been wild dogs hunting in packs.

Oh my goodness that beautiful baby. I lost my Border Collie over Christmas last year, he was 14 years old. I still miss him. At the moment I just cant get another puppy. We had a fox that took our some of chickens and it was coming up to our farm in the daytime. Its soul destroying. Ours are all pets too along with ducks, peacocks and geese. Happy new year Jeri!

I have not for some reason seen your post lately. Today while making carrot loaf I thought about you and decided to turn on a video. This one caught my eye because of the pup. I needed this. I lost my 15 year old Corgi in December. One of the most painful things I have endured. It still hurts. I miss my Abigail. I really want another puppy. When the time is right I know that will happen. I am sorry for your loss of animals on the farm. IT IS SOOOO HARD. But I believe God has a plan for those animals too...We shall see them again. God Bless.

He is adorable! We had to put our Great Pyr down in June, she had bone cancer, she just turned six. Her name was Junie B. Jones and she protected the whole farm. We miss her very much. Much love to you and your new puppy.

I have a pack of coyotes come through at night and they’ve been going crazy in the neighbors field. I know they’ve gotten something one night for sure because they were in an absolute frenzy for a long time. I love your new puppy! Oh my, what a little butterball! Animals are so cute at their young stage it’s hard not to fall in love as they grow and mature. I can’t have animals here on the river due to so many predators of which eagles are one of the largest. If I could…Sebastopol’s would certainly be one of the choices I would make. Chickens of all kinds of course because they are just my absolute favorite farm animal. But alas it is only dreaming but it’s fun seeing your cast of farm characters each time you vlog although it is always a sad day to hear of your loss. Looking forward to your new garden transformations to compliment your fabulous greenhouse.because here in the middle of the mitten we don’t even think about gardening a new season til about the end of March. This coming fall I am going to try trench planting tulips because I plant and plant and plant fall bulbs only to be disappointed in the spring with a few tulips but I have ALOT of fat squirrels so I’m pretty sure that’s why. So I am going to use hardware cloth from this point forward. Hoping you and James will have a great New Years as we roll over the calendar to 2023. I’m so sorry about your loss. I think geese are wonderfully charming. We live in the suburbs. Currently we have 5 little hens. They are delightful to watch. My Daughter loaded the video on “my channel”. We no longer have Roo. He needed more than 5 hens. Out of the five, he only liked two. Hubby loves the donkeys. Don’t think we could hide it as well as the chickens. I fostered dogs for awhile. I have three foster fails that we love like children. They were here long time before the chickens. Dear Jeri I think the animal that took away your gooses is a fox. Another likely animal will be a wolf. Another likely animal will be a wolf. I don't know if they exist in that area, but here in Portugal, in the mountains, they are a constant concern for those who have flocks of sheep or goats. But speaking of nicer things, the new canine element of the farm is a tenderness! He is lucky, as are the ducks and geese to have such a large space to roam around. I wish you an excellent 2023, with countless joys at all levels!

My lavender is hanging in there as well. I was so happy to see that. We have had freezing cold weather and they made it through. Your pup is adorable and seems pretty smart as well also pretty relaxed for a pup like that. He seems like he has already got the rules down and is fitting right in.

Don't know which predator got your geese, but here in the Ohio River Valley we have Bobcats, Foxes, Coy-dogs and the native Panther has made a return - as well as a new one, a vicious, aggressive vulture, said to be from Africa. My brother raises Black Angus cattle and these new vultures attacked calving heifers, killing the newborns and sometimes the mother as well! My brother has a Great Pyrenees dog, Hank, who is very protective of the herd and even herds small children away from the busy highway! Great Pyrenees are wonderful dogs.

Godfrey is soooooo adorable! What a great happy beginning for 2023 and so sorry 😞 for your losses. I lost my oldest and first 🐐 last winter and my only pig 🐖 Gilbert the year before. Also the summer before I lost my golden to cancer. Feels like a little bit of my heart breaks away until I find my next fur/feathered babies.

Jeri, I have 4 ducks that we bought with some chick's two springs ago at TSC. Of course they were not sexed correctly. We ended up with 3 males and 1 female. We did get eggs last spring. Do I need more females? The mating issue that you brought off is scaring 😨 me and I had no idea about it. Thank you for helping, I cant seem to get a straight answer on google.

@@lisab.6818 Do your best to find more females before spring. Look on Craigslist, Face book Marketplace, or the Farmers market. With 3 males and 1 female, your female will be mated all day long by the males, and the males will fight each other. You may already know how to tell the difference between boy and girl already: the males have a Curl in their tail and a different voice, they don't quack, their voice is more like the sound more like grinding gears. It's better to have all males than to outnumber the girls. Good luck!

So cute! I love puppies! We have new babies too, 3 calves, that were born this past week, and one born just yesterday. We've named the first one Frosty since it was born the first night of this recent arctic freeze before Christmas. It's also our first white faced calf (though it's probable they will all be white faced this time) so the name seemed appropriate. The next two were born Christmas weekend. One just happens to have a pink nose, instead of a black nose like the others, so that one is Rudy, and the 3rd one was just so happy and dancing around when we first saw it so we named it Prancer. The newest one we just saw this morning and we're thinking of calling it Eve or Even, since it is NY Eve. We have 4 more coming very soon. You and James pick the most interesting names for your animals! Eustacia Vye? Had to look that one up. I've never read the Thomas Hardy novels (have seen a couple movies based on his books) so I wasn't familiar with that name. I first heard of the DA rose with that name last season, but didn't look up the name then. Live and learn. But I clearly get the name Einstein. :) ...Our new chickens (almost 6 months old) weathered the cold well and all our other critters seem to be doing just fine. I would love to have ducks or geese, but we'll see what the future holds. Right now I'm ok with just the chickens since this is the first time we've ever had any kind of birds. And we do get to see all sorts of birds thanks to our small lake (large stock tank) including geese, and all sorts of ducks. Speaking of predators and birds, we saw our first Crested Caracara (aka Mexican Eagle) here yesterday. Very clever, very large birds--we really hope it moves on very soon. We have enough predators to deal with, with all the coyotes, bobcats, hawks, owls and sometimes Osprey around here. ...We've enjoyed the holidays and being with family, so now I'm hoping to hit the ground running for the new year. So much work to do!! Seeds to plant, bulbs to plant. More roses coming in March. Hopefully we'll get the temporary greenhouse finished in January so I can get seeds started in it by March. So sorry about your losses this year. Dogs feel loss too so I'm happy you now have a puppy. LGD are smart and he will learn so much over the next year. Even in the sleeping season of winter your gardens and land are beautiful.

You have my deepest sympathies for the loss of your friends. I KNOW they are family members as are mine. It's such a heartbreak! Ben Hur is one smart rooster! I'd move into your farm too if I could! Barry wanted a new puppy. He chose a little Papillon who is bursting with enthusiasm (AND energy) for life. He named her, "Bugg" and she makes us laugh every single day!
