Jack Stauber is stylistically one of the most talented and unique artists I’ve ever encountered on the internet. I stumbled across some of his videos a couple months back and was instantly entranced by his bizarre visuals, wild emotive singing and interesting blending of stop motion animation, cartoons, and computer-generated graphics. What really impressed me about his newest project, SHOP: a pop opera, recently featured on adult swim, was the seamless blending of all the aforementioned creative mediums, as well as the subject matter that he chose to write sketches and songs about. The project managed to somehow introduce several complex ideas about modern life, drugs and making decisions all while hiding under the guise of being an animated short about a man visiting the supermarket.

this actually makes so much sense, at 0:12 you can see her giving birth to someone she and she wants them to be the splitting image of herself I believe? “And things will change” which means she hopes the child will take care of her and succeed in things she lacked. I think “just a little chunk of hope keeps me going everyday” can either refer to when her mother’s addiction first started or claire imagining a better family to cope with the reality she lives in, seeing how at the end of opal, it’s hinted that Claire often if not everyday imagines that perfect family.
@ozymandiasabsurd11573 жыл бұрын
I think it’s Claire because the mother doesn’t have that type of nose and it isn’t because she’s young either, we have seen adults with the same red tiny nose ( the people on the burger advertisement) so I personally believe it is Claire because she has too much trauma to live with and she must have gotten the idea to drink and do pills by witnessing her mother do it her first half of her life so she must of thought that indulging in these substances is acceptable

I don't think it's Claire's mom, but Claire herself, looking at her red nose and typical hair, for example. "I hope that one day things will change" means that she hopes that the trauma will not transfer to her daughter/son as it did in this case. "We see you, Opal" at the end in the form of a demon is supposed to be a metaphor for the demon of the past. (sorry for any mistakes, I'm using a translator)

the explained: The song itself is also noted for being very similar to some of the themes represented throughout OPAL, most notably with Claire's mother. This has notably caused some fans to believe the songs are connected in some fashion, either it being some form of demo, or it being an earlier concept or test for what would become OPAL. The mother in OPAL has very serious addiction problems with both drugs and alcohol, which is also portrayed in the Hope music video. Both her mother and the Hope woman believe that these substances are their "hope" and that it's what keeps them going everyday. Some also brought up by fans is the scene in the music video where the Hope woman gives birth. Some have theorized that it seems to be a portrayal of the mother's mindset and hopes of Claire. The woman gives birth to a child who eventually becomes a clone of herself who notably earns money. Fans theorize that this represents her mindset and what she expects from Claire and how she wants Claire to be a clone of her that, however unlike her, actually becomes successful.

If I’m being honest, this last week has been a roller coaster of trust, stress, love, and patience. The big one that out-lies them all, however, was hope. I don’t want to get into the specifics but your songs (specifically from Pop Food) really calmed me down and I was able to asses the situation comfortably and calmly. And in the end... the situation got better, but there’s one big thing that we have to do. Thank you so much Jack for everything.

People keep saying it's about addictions, but as someone who relies on anti depressants to function? I feel like it's about recovering from mental health issues. When you're mentally ill and you start taking meds, you're aware you're feeling bad and you need help, and with meds it's often all trial and error, but you get that little chunk of hope that you're working on yourself and things can get better. Depression makes you feel like everything is hopeless and even the positive things in your life are meaningless, it sucks all joy away. But when I started my recovery and I started taking antidepressants I started feeling that little glimmers of hope shinning through and it kept me going. People laugh that it's a bop but it's grim, but It feels motivational to me. The premise is a little grim but also very, well... Hopeful.

But there’s a can of beer in the beginning? I absolutely LOVE your theory and your look on this song. (Not everything has to be about drugs, inTeRnEt) but how would you explain the beer? I’m just curious and I love this whole video and the weirdness of jack stauber!
@babygirlalaura4 жыл бұрын
@@littlezorkie9311 I think I can help here, friend! you could see it as recovering from alcohol addiction as well or perhaps needing a little something to help you wind down after all the stress you go through! you *could* see that as a possible other addiction to spiral down into *but* as really everything's up to interpretation, you could always see it in a more positive light! I personally feel as if the song shows how it is to be both depressed and optimistic, as you may be filled with hope but you still need some small things to help motivate, pick you up or just plain forget the day you had Not a bad thing! Just a road to recovery after realizing you need to make a better life for yourself :>

What i believe this song means is that the person singing the song is clinically depressed and the random scenes of them taking pills is actually antidepressants and the phrase "keeps me going everyday" means keeps me from killing myself everyday... THEORY: This isn’t Claire’s Mother at all, this IS Claire as an adult, now picking up habits from her mother like drinking, taking pills, etc. When she says she hopes that one day things will change, she thinks she’s becoming like her mother and hopes her child or her can break the cycle. The end sounds eerily similar to “We see you” if she doesn’t take pills or drink she’s reminded of her abuse in the dark house and how awful it was that she had to make a false reality, she wants to get lost in the reality again but feels it becoming more distorted, which is what lead to her addiction

In this video, there is a catchy lyric, and a positive background theme. Yet, the person in the video is taking pills and drinking alcohol. It takes a deeper level of understanding about the video to know it’s meaning. Unless you use this for a TikTok, where most people who use it have basic understanding, and don’t know what it means. This level of not understanding summons the weirdo anime cosplay “Chunk Of Hope”. They say the song is supposed to mean that everything will be better, but then again, they don’t understand it.

The jack stauber community is mostly comprised of the cringy band kids. In my opinion that’s probably the main reason I don’t show my enjoyment of jacks work because of being embarrassed when people outside the community see how cringy the people are. I don’t want to be associated with these people but at the same time I love his work. But I can’t show it. Not to long ago I saw butter cup but it was animated with furry characters... like come on man... the undertale ,fnaf, furry, cuphead, and Steven universe communities and others I’ve forgotten have a small part that seep into the jack stauber community making it cringy af. But that’s just my opinion.
