With your 3200 fps loading, you have elk energy(1500 ft. lb.) out to 300 yards and deer energy(1000 ft lb) to 500 yards...if you use a 6" point blank range setting you are good to 300 as well(about 200 without wind correction in 10mph 90° cross). Sounds like a real zapper of a load.👍👍

Barnes are pricey but from my experience are the easiest to work a load up. I agree about the light for caliber also. That cfe223 is awesome stuff and my favorite powder. Cleanest burning powder I know of and lighting fast. I use cfe223 in 7-08, 308 and 30-06. It will pressure spike fast as you up powder charge. . I hunt with my loads and have no problem with the temp sensitive thing. I actually tested cfe223 and varget last year with temp of 19 degrees in same gun with same bullets. Everything was the same except the powder. Results were not what I expected. The varget load actually shot faster than normal with one ejector mark and usually shoots great with no pressure. Group was twice size as normal also. Cfe223 shot average 20fps slower than normal but group was unchanged. Another powder that works really well in 7-08 is Ramshot big game with magnum primers.

I’m no expert, but when I had a rifle printing groups like this it turned out the op rod was hitting the scope mount every once in a while (M1A so not bolt action). Something is moving under recoil. Could be scope, rings, or rail. Might be that the barrel touches the stock sometimes - the way you support the rifle might not be 100% consistent.
@doghousedon14 ай бұрын
@chipsterb4946 Something might have been loose, but I doubt it. Not with HB anyway. I'm shooting the same load with the same results, though I never checked to see if I got a consistent outlayer.

How did you find shooting the cfe-223 in colder weather? In my 6.5 grendel, i would have issues in group size, and if i loaded near max when it was cold, that load would have pressure issue when hot. Glad you posted this one. I'm about to order a 708 reamer. Sadly Tikka does not make a left hand stainless 708 so I have to convert one of my current rifles. I have 4 ACE barrels on order, 8, 9, and 9.5 twist and they contour a Tikka sporter barrel so I can still use factory stock if I choose, just have to cut, crown, chamber, thread the ACE and spin it onto a T3x action. I did find some ACE Tikka contoured barrels ready to buy now but they are 8 twist, which, in my opinion, isn't necessary or appropriate for a 708. That fast twist just slows down the bullets. I prefer a 9, 9.5 or 10 twist in 708. I don't see me loading heavier than a 162 grain bullet. I also have 100 of the Barnes 120 TTSX to try, along with 140, 150 Nos btips, 139LRX, and 160 Norma TipStrike. Just trying to decide if I want to use Norma brass I have on hand or go premium with Alpha, Lapua, or Peterson.
