Well, I think you need to try that ol' smoke pole out ... if you think it is solid. Thanks for a great look at a great gun.

Nice Rifle! I love black power shooting. Enjoy it! I hope to see you shoot it! I have seen one from this company. Maybe the spanish company that made it are making the Traditions rifle today?

I have the same rifle given to me about 20 years ago. It seems to have be made in late 60's. I had to make a new main spring and fire lap the barrel because it was in bad shape. I love mine and have shot it a lot.

The original Hopkins & Allen company never made muzzleloaders. They did make double action revolvers. The company was bought and sold several times and did make an under hammer 45 cal Percussion blackpowder rifle while owned by NUMRICH. There is no Hopkins & Allen in Spain. However they sometimes used decorations inspired by Spain on their pistols. I did a deep internet search and found several people on gun forums looking for information on a Hopkins & Allen muzzle loader. There was no response to them. They did make single and double barrel break action shotguns. That stamped number is a serial that was put on the rifle at a later date so it could be sold in a gun store. I have several old shotguns that I have restored that did not have a serial number on it and one was stamped into them to be sold. If that barrel is from Hopkins & Allen, they were regarded as one of the most accurate. Update! I found a hammer and spring group on eBay that matches yours. Somewhere sometime those had to have been made.

I got a 45 caliber Kentucky rifle that I bought at a yardsale for 65 dollars he was asking a 100 but 65 bucks was all I had on me, its not a Hopkins and Allen though it looks exactly like yours, if I'm not mistaken the originals were made with a 1 piece stock, they went to the 2 piece because it was easier to package for retail . Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. It's still a very beautiful rifle, shoot it and enjoy it my friend ! Blackpowder maniac shooter is on KZbin and is extremely knowledgeable on blackpowder fire arms, and he is also from the great State of Kentucky !!

Nice piece!! The barrel was maybe made by Jukar who later produced CVA barrels and hardware. These were sold like mad by Numrich Arms for many years and they probably still have some parts in stock for it. This is NOT the historical Hopkins &Allen that went out of business for good in 1915.
