Call me one eyed, but if I show this particular video to any of my musician colleague, and they cant see the level these girls are ...I cant take them as as serious thing musicians anymore. These girls are the best in their field, bar none, These girls are saving hard rock like no other band , male or female. They are undeniable queens of hard rock. Thanks for all your great review guys.

Saiki used to hold back her vocals because she had a condition (pollups?) in her throat. She decided to have surgery in 2017 to remove them because she knew it would only get worse. It seems that was the best thing she could have done, because now you can clearly tell the difference in her range and projection. You can read about it here in a July 7, 2019 interview posted on reddit: www.reddit.com/r/BandMaid/comments/cbf5p9/translated_saikis_interview_from_the_day_before/

Hey dudes, first off, I've got to give y'all props for what you do. I'm American, your age group (44) and a life long head banger. Metallica, Maiden, Megadeath, GNR, AIC, etc... Here's the funny thing, I heard about your show FROM a Japanese guy while waiting in line to get into a Band Maid show in Kagoshima in January. I only found out about Band Maid back in October 2019... SO, Band Maid literally brought me to your channel, but not the usual way. Pretty crazy how life works sometimes! I couldn't agree with you more on this band...they're tremendous! Keep pushing the envelope!

You're right about the poor mix, and ZEPP having better sound. I've written their management company and their website people numerous times about this issue. No excuses at Band-Maid's level of performance. It's certainly not the band's fault. It's the suits sitting in their high chairs making all the $$ that's dropping the ball. Same for not offering English translations for all their interviews, MV's and other internet / marketing content. Same for their slim selection and sizing of Merch. Same for their lack of proper overseas booking and media appearances, etc. (pre COVID, of course). Maybe once things get back to normal, they're gonna up their overseas game. Band-Maid should have had millions of Fans by now. Thanks - got that out of my system. 😯 Keep up the great responses, guys!

I'm sure they'll mainly play in their usual 2000-3000 capacity venues in Japan, and they'll still play in venues even smaller than that abroad. Given how fast tickets sold for the last USA tours, I'd be surprised if they didn't go for bigger venues next time, although I'd also be surprised if they risked places holding much more than 1000. Is that still intimate?

Their international gigs will still be small venues. Even a band like One OK Rock, that plays 50K+ arenas in Japan, still play venues like the Buckhead Theater here in Atlanta when they tour here (capacity 1800). On a closer level of popularity, Scandal (who has played 10K+ venues multiple times in Japan and is the absolute most popular Japanese all-girl band) still play venues in the 1000 capacity venues when they come to the US.

I have found Baid Maid about January this year and absolutely love them. They can each kill it on their playing. The other benefit is they are easy on the eyes also... I think you gave an honest objective review to their music as I'm sure some rockers would be prejudice to female Japanese rock band but they are good! I love so many different classic hard rock, punk, metal, funk, and now proud to admit to anyone that these maids can rock. Nice!!

@@VladimirChupin Other than Foo Fighters, you'd have to go out of the hard rock genre and into metal to find a comparable band, like you did with Metallica, Vlad. Or compare Band-Maid with bands no longer active or dead - RUSH (prog rock), AC/DC, etc. And how many bands had a 90 song catalog after six years, other than the 60's - 90's greats like Stones, Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Queen, etc. And how many bands had so many good to great songs in their catalog as Band-Maid. The thing is, on the world scene, Band-Maid is not YET taken seriously because of their maid concept and the fact that they're women... and sing in Japanese, imo. If you Google the best new hard rock bands (or any rock bands) Band-Maid can't be found. Very unfortunate and something their management / marketing must address.

@@TomClark-Futoura My personal interpretation of this phenomenon is that there are too many bands currently fighting for our attention. And a lot of them are attractive enough, there is one or two songs which get a radio coverage. And of course, there are also different musical tastes. For example, my wife loves Pentatonix. It's an amazing band for sure, but I doubt if a Pentatonix fan could appreciate BAND-MAID music that much. There is also the thing which is called "forced meme." There is a funny video from BBC Comedy about it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ppbLeYKnrZx9jsk There's an episode there, where they make a guy listen to the same song over and over, and ask him what he thinks of it. First, his verdict is "What sort of crap is that?", but after eight listens, he's saying, "I'm definitely going to buy it and recommend it to all my friends." Our mind loves familiar things...

It took me a while to get into Band-Maid... I knew about them, I got somewhat curious and checked them for a few seconds of "Thrill" and said to myself "hmm, not right now..." and it gave me the impression that the looks were what really mattered here, so I just put them aside... then, much later on, I bumped into one reaction video doing "Blooming" and by the end of it, I felt the urgency of watching the whole original video all over again, no pauses, no comments, just "Blooming" and it Bloo my mind... So I downloaded a few songs from Band-Maid and made my first list... I didn't knew much else, so I took a random few - I went back to "Thrill" just to give it the proper listen, "Real Existence", "Secret My Lips", "Bubble" , "Dice" and "Don't Let Me Down"... and didn't took very long till I was thinking "OMG I love this, this is so good" ... and a few months later I had to own every Band-Maid album. I pre-ordered the Bluray from where this "Domination" performance is taken from and the whole show is amazing starting right off with a Akane drum solo linking it to "Rinne" and there are a few more Akane awesomeness throughout the show (as well as the rest of the band of course) ... There is one thing you say that's true - there is a slightly different mix that, in my opinion, takes a little bit of power to Kanami's guitar sound, not so much in the solos but I think the best example of this is in "Dice"... everyone that knows "Dice" knows how strong and raw the guitar sounds and in this live, where you would hear the guitar roar , you listen to MISA and seems like some power is missing in some passages. Saiki's voice in this concert is phenomenal! But for me the best live sound is the "Live at Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017" ... it's where they have the very best and most brutal performance of "Play" and the superb "Matchless GUM" (Kanami is a little goddess)... but Zepp is a monster and I love it from start to finish... I mean, moments like "Onset", the acoustic "Puzzle" + "Anemone", the awesome "Freedom" and all of what goes on with Saiki almost engulfed by the crowd, the little dance between MISA and Saiki in "Real Existence"... its just a monster of a show! ... well, just wanted to say, I love this band!

I completely agree with what you said at the 20:02 mark, this show's mix was not as good as the Zepp mix. Band-Maid's performance seemed to be on point, the moment that I enjoyed, well there was more than moment... ONE of the moments that I really enjoyed seeing was Miku playing her guitar with Kanami, knowing from what I understand, Kanami is teaching Miku. I imagine that it has been harder for Miku to pick up on an instrument versus Misa, Akane and Kanami. I have seen Miku in past performances go over to Kanami but seeing Kanami go over to Miku as if she was pushing Miku to go further, just my take. And I am never 100 percent sure on my history with this band, if anybody has anything to add or correct please do! Thanks for the reaction video Hops!

I have the same feel. Miku has improved greatly on guitar. In this Line Cube Shibuya show, she demonstrates it multiple times. It's interesting that she is basically like a Kanami copy, she does not have her own style. I am never able to distinguish her guitar from Kanami's guitar in the mix. Of course, when Kanami plays her solos, I know for sure it's not Miku, but even this line gets blurred now, as Miku is growing more and more professional on her guitar. Miku even did a little battle with MISA in this show 😜💖

Without a doubt the best hardrock musicians out there right now, love this band. You're right about the mix though, this entire concert someone dropped the ball on recording Kanami's guitar. Her solos sound like they got a mic placed way at the back of the arena and no direct sound. Mika's rhythm guitar sounds great though and the drums...my god Akane is good...

However the Kami Band are also friends with Band-Maid of which they were mentioned once in an interview. BandMaid arn't that well known yet in Japan actually in comparison to BabyMetal. However I hope that starts to change after they get more exposure here. Live Nation I believe is promoting the tour so should be some good exposure here. Their live shows are not to be missed!:b

Band-Maid aren't that big in Japan, hard rock just isn't that popular there. The big sellers are idol groups, solo singers and pop-rock blandness. That said their fan base is growing, as it is overseas. Haven't got the DVD yet of the Line Cube concert, but I'm wondering if part of the problem is YT compression ? That said the Line Cube seems like a more ambient mix, certainly the audience is very much in evidence.

Doc Loco has done the analysis of the audio mix here: www.reddit.com/r/BandMaid/comments/gbr2xc/it_arrived_who_else_got_one_of_the_versions_w_the/ *jasonek72* How is the mix, particular Kanami's guitar in comparison to the YT premier? *DocLoco* Same mix. As I explained in another topic, the stereo image is extremely broad, so Kanami is far far right. Sounds better with headphones. It depends on the songs too, some have a decent mix. Now the overall tone is pretty good and don't worry, the Bluray/DVD is really enjoyable.

You're right, girls are taking over Japan now these days... Guys are way too soft and tend to embrace pop music more. Young girl like Li-sa-X, only 15, is forming a band to shred hard. One More Change Is Enogh by Li-sa-X Band: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hqvWoqCkesZrb8U Should consider chencking it out since you guys might find out the Rock and Roll phenomenon is actually happening in the young generation as well.
@VladimirChupin
@VladimirChupin 4 жыл бұрын
Hmmm... Thanks for the link. I knew about Li-sa-X, of course, and watched some of her earlier videos and interviews. She's a prodigy. This MV, "One More Chance Is Enough," is demonstrating pretty well how the things work in Japan. I think Li-sa-X came to a certain music label (or they came to her, which is even more probable in this case), and said, "Let's make a cool band." Then they've found for her a second girl guitarist, who plays 7-string guitar (a rarity, of course), and a very nice English-speaking singer. The result, of course, is a solid musical line-up. The mistake that the management of these labels constantly makes, is that they don't try to create an organic entity, but rather think in terms of a "nice project." The same as BabyMetal sort of thing, where for US tour they have hired the local American musicians. Where's the drummer and the bassist in that Li-sa-X BAND? They are probably the men, because the label could not find the girls of the same calibre quickly. Which means, the band will probably not be sustainable. I really hope that they will find two more girls to fill in the rhythm section vacancies, and then blaze out through the world like a rocket. They do deserve it. I would not even be surprised if they have hired Yuyoyuppe to compose the songs for them. Check this song out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j4PKc5WebLGNpc0 I hear a lot of similar overtones with "One More Chance Is Enough." I may be wrong, of course, it's just a vague feeling. That's why BAND-MAID is so unique. There are no session musicians, the band is what it is, each member is irreplaceable. They compose the songs themselves, they arrange it by themselves, they are great friends, they enjoy being together. It creates absolutely different dynamics comparing to the project-based session-oriented approach.
@erumi36
@erumi36 4 жыл бұрын
@@VladimirChupin I'm glad you pointed that out regarding "project bands" vs. organic bands. It's something I've noticed about some other Japanese bands as well. Brats comes immediately to mind. They are being marketed as 3/4ths (or 3/5ths) of a band for this very reason it seems. It just seems "off" that they have no permanent drummer from my admittedly Western perspective. I get it that this is not unusual in Japan, but I also see so many musicians over there getting recycled from project to project, and this can't be good for creating long term bands. On the other hand, perhaps this is an ingredient that keeps the scene lively and sustainable over there, while ours has all but died on the vine. Either way I'm certainly enjoying my semi-immersion into the music scene in Japan, as well as learning a bit about the business behind it. For all the similarities there are to the Western scene, there are huge differences that make this an interesting adventure. I've even heard tales of a Russian master spy specializing in the successful liberation of footage meant solely for the " Eyes of the Emperor". He's caused quite a stir so I hear. ;D
@VladimirChupin
@VladimirChupin 4 жыл бұрын
@@erumi36 I tend to think that this "recycling" of musicians from project to project is not a positive phenomenon. Look at the stable bands, like Scandal or BAND-MAID. They are much more popular in the end, and they can enjoy such thing as *fandom*. They are a brand which gets known little by little, and people refer to it and speak about it. If we recall other bands, like REOL with Giga-P, for example, which I love very much, they were rather a quick flash on the firmament of the Japanese music, and now they are only a shadow of their past glory. The same problem we observe with a lot of other Japanese performers. There are very few recognizable brands. How can you build a popularity, if there is no brand? Or, rather, the brand is very short-lived, and before it gets recognized, it's already bankrupt? It's also the problem for me (for you, for everybody) that I can't really find a good music to listen to. Of course, if I would really follow the personal life of the artists, I would know that such and such musician whom I loved, now has created another band. But in most of cases that does not really provide the same level of enjoyment. The cases when a new band is as good as the previous one, are very rare. That was confirmed time and again by the history of music.

@@RevStickleback I disagree, the "i" in Japanese is an "ee" sound and it is always said the same way (as with all Japanese sounds with the exception of the syllables beginning with "r" which have some variation) So it does sound more like the "ee" in sheep than the "i" in Ship. If we are talking about it strictly in syllables (as the Japanese language is created out of strict syllables) it would be pronounced "Shee-Boo-Yah"; 3 syllables, in Japanese the three characters are し (Shi), ぶ(Bu), and や(Ya). Indeed, the lack of stressed syllables does make it difficult to speak Japanese well :) I do speak Japanese and spend a lot of time there, it's history and culture are fantastic.

@@Hedgehog1039 I think the tricky part is how people hear it. Ask an American and and Englishmen which of their pronunciations of Hiroshima is most like the Japanese way, and both will say theirs is. @Hedgehog1039
@Hedgehog1039 4 жыл бұрын
@@RevStickleback It is true that Americans and Britons may percieve / pronounce them differently. It would be far easier to show in audio :) It has the "ee" sound but it doesn't last as long as we would normally say "ee" in English if that makes sense? "Hee-Roh-Shee-Maa" would be correct (My girlfriend was born there so I hear it said fairly frequently). The main thing to take away is that neither Americans or Britons pronounce Japanese words correctly until they have studied the language (foe the most part). Some age old offenders of this as "Karaoke", "Karate", and "sayonara" which are almost never pronounced correctly in the west among many others :) Languages are fascinating and I hope to study more in the future!
