I wouldn't say commercial, it's more like they are executing the hard rock genre very well. To me, Band-Maid relates back to the hard rock bands of the 70's with some 70's new wave and a bit of punk thrown in. You don't find this kind of driving rock and roll very much anymore, which is why it appeals to me, being the music I used to listen to as a teenager.

Kanami, the lead guitarist, the one who writes the music for the band, says she was especially influenced by Carlos Santana.

In the 60s & 70s songs were commonly 3 minutes. Band Maid creates great songs in the 4 minute range. This song emphasizes Saiki’s vocals and Miku’s beautiful harmonizing vocals. Kanami’s guitar work is amazing. When she’s not carrying the song with a solid hook and a shredding solo, she’s does subtle meandering chord work and riffing reminiscent of the Edge and Alex Lifeson. This is one of my very favorite Band Maid songs.

I guess everything has a formula, right? The Chevy formula. The NFL formula. The YT Reactor’s formula. How about saying, the Band-Maid “sound” or “style”. Band-Maid’s sound is like none other. Same for each individual player. But if you want different genre-specific music within their sound or style, try: [Hard Rock] - Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Glory or Choose Me… or powerful, beautifully written [slower tunes] -- Daydreaming, Anemone and Smile... or more [punky] -- Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or [funky] -- Bubble… or [poppy] -- Start Over… or [cultural] -- Band-Maiko! In any case, I highly recommend using headsets set to “Stun” because this group rocks, again... like none other!

Band-Maid's 'super-power' is Miku & Konami's damned GOOD TASTE in lyric/music arrangement. Sure, 'heavier,' more 'technical' bands, play fast & hard w/something to prove, but BM's actually got something to say ;-)

@@gusgrimm7533 100% !! Now if people (like in the USA) would get over some hangups (or at least, try to understand) the "Gap" and why they wear maid outfits... or the fact that girls can rock as good, if not better, than guys... or the way they act... or that they might not understand all the lyrics without translation or learning some Japanese, etc... they could reach the level of a RUSH or a Foo Fighters in a few short years. Oh, yeah... and their promoters need to get more creative with this important, awesome band. Here's one of my ideas I recently wrote to their management: A Two-Man Show - The Warning and Band-Maid - South & North American Tour 2020

@@TomClark-Futoura: Yup. It's up to us to promote this band via 'word-of-mouth' and encourage a 'Rock'n'Roll Renaissance' among every bedroom guitarist & garage band in our neighborhoods. 2020's gonna be a great year ;-)

This song is a BM masterpiece composed by Kanami and lyrics plus main vocal arrangements by Miku with some input from Saiki. The song is called Puzzle because of its lyrics, but also because of its composition. This song would likely have been even more progressive if the label wouldn't have limited its length.

"Onset" is pure instrumental. Yes. they have a formula but they do like to mix it up. Their new "endless Story" is more poppy but it is intended as an audience sing along. To quote Kanami, an "arena" song. Planning for the future. In fan videos from their recent Europe tour you will see Saiki teaching the audience the lyrics to sing along (the song was not yet released) . It is kind of a Japanese thing to have audience participation. At the same time they have added a guitar solo as a new intro to their song "Moratorium". And if you listen to their live songs and compare them to the album versions you will find they are tweaking the songs. They've done this same song "Puzzle" as an acoustic song with just Saiki and Kanami on acoustic guitar and doing backup vocals. And then there is their April Fool's joke that has taken in a life of its own, Band-Maiko, where they dress up as geishas and mix in some traditional Japanese instruments with their usual instruments. Check out "Gion-cho" kzbin.info/www/bejne/q562pWqlgrqAmdU

@@santirodriguez2544 Well yeah, an apprentice geisha, but most non-Japanese don't know the word "maiko" nor would they know what to look for to tell maiko and geisha apart. Besides they are too old to be maiko who are usually in their teens.

The only real pattern I have been able to detect is that they don't like to do the same thing twice, even within a song. Each verse and chorus has something different about it, and they throw in tempo and mood changes at random.

this performance is from the Shinkiba Studio Coast performance from end of 2017.. released as a DVD/Bluray, it's got the best audio imo. the other major live DVD/Bluray is from Zepp Tokyo 2018. i agree that BAND-MAID's got a rather commercial sound to em.. but that's totally fine, coz what they put out is so damn good, and it never comes across as feeling contrived. they've got an effortless mish-mash of different sounds.. the catchy hook from pop music being one of their strongest assets imo. even if they rarely deviate from a standard song structure, their songs are filled with so much quality musicianship that it's easy for me to look past that kzbin.info/www/bejne/hGilgnahisdnias Moratorium's another heavy hitter.. it actually comes right before Puzzle at this show

Coming from a hard-rock/metal inclination, once you get passed the pop and learn to love it, they DO NOT have a bad song. I actually enjoy some of the pop stuff more than the rock type stuff. They compose their music and play it themselves. It's good to see young girls who dedicate to what they want to do. Whatever people lable them, they shouldn't care about it. They may not be the best, actually the best band to me so far is Dream State from South Wales, but I want to see their growth as a big fan from their debut.

Band-Maid is currently on their US tour and played at Aftershock this year which was epic!! They are 100% on their game right now as even the fancams are brilliant. Garage shows basically arn't supposed to be this good. This is a A level band deserving of a proper arena tour. Akane is seriously next level as her drum solos are giving me chills. See them live as that is where they shine here. Hope they finally start to get some recognition now to good to pass up here!! Good reaction BTW!! 🤘

I think you have to buy a CD with bounus DVD direct from Japan to get a live concert. The cost is worth it. CDs in Japan are more costly than the UK and, I am guessing the States. Pity you are not going to the September concerts in the States. You will find fans flying from all over. It is one of the great way to meet new friends. Met some Japanese fans who came for the London gig. One reason is the meet and greet, as this might not happen in Japan with Band Maid now (?).

With 75 songs published since 2013 you are going to find a lot of style and diversity in Band-Maid's music obviously. That's not a bad thing. Would you know Helter Skelter and Yesterday were both done by the Beatles if you did not know both songs were done by the Beatles? l doubt it. See some of you at the Echoplex in LA Sept. 30th.

They have produced two blu-ray concert DVDs. Most all of the pro-shot live videos on YT have been ripped from these two-hour shows. The middle guy had to be sure and make the cookie-cutter comment right up front, yes? Tell me, and please go into detail, what aspect of this song has cookie-cutter qualities? The drums, the bass, the guitar work? Perhaps it's the lyrics Miku wrote, or the composition that Kanami and the rest of the band provided. As for being commercial, maybe they should make unmelodious music just to show how edgy they are, right?
@borntraitor2895 жыл бұрын
i think he's referring to the format a lot of their songs follow.. A verse, chorus, B verse, chorus, solo, bridge, chorus, end. they do play around with it from time to time, and it's always welcome
@wrcompositi5 жыл бұрын
I would say the only "cookie-cutter" aspect is the frantic and epileptic editing of this live DVD, which is inferior to certain fan recordings. Other than that this song is perfect, going on full gas without a single dull moment. The song has formulaic structure but Kanami changes the riff all the time and Akane never dwells on the same drum pattern.

i wish the bluray just had all angles available for us to pick from
@johnmatthew1025 жыл бұрын
@@borntraitor289 Well yes, there are similarities in the composition of many of their songs, but what I love is how Band-Maid changes things up in their songs like chord progressions, time signatures and song intros. He deflected the cookie cutter comment by saying someone else made them, but you know he was thinking the same thing just by mentioning it very early on. if it wasn't at the top of his mind, then why mention it. Their songs all sound like Band-Maid and I wouldn't have it any other way.
